About Michael Brubeck
I am American born and have now been living in Montisi and working here for 14 years and coming here since 1972 when I was five years old. The old podere ( a working farm) was lived in by generations of contadini until two years before my parents bought it in 1972. While restoring the house we wanted to maintain the simplicity and beauty of a historical farmhouse with its hand-hewn doors and manger boards, both keeping and creating a warm and welcoming environment. I still take care of the house and the surrounding olives which I prune in the spring and harvest in the fall making a fantastic olive oil that our area is known for.
Michael Brubeck purchased this Farmhouse in 1972
Why Michael Brubeck chose San Giovanni d'Asso
At Il Colombaio di Momo you will find yourself staying in a house which has been our family home for over forty years. In the restoration of il Colombaio we preserved much of it's character and feel of it's origins. With a comfortable open space living room and an ample garden it is a great place to relax and get to know the village of Montisi with it's restaurants and bars. A small and inviting town you'll feel welcomed and experience a little of what small village life is like. If you come at the right time of year you can participate in our town festival, a jousting competition on horseback and all in medieval costume, white truffle festival, olive oil festival, a newborn film festival and more....

Perfect spot for a vacation in Tuscany
Colombiao de momo was the ideal place to spend a week in Tuscany. The farm house itself was beautiful both inside and out. The kitchen was stocked with everything you need, the beds are comfortable, and there is plenty of space inside and out for enjoying dinners with a group. Momo was a perfect host and set us up with a driver for the day (highly recommend) and also cooking lessons. The house is a 10 minute walk to Montisi, which is a beautiful little town. We loved our stay at Colombiao de momo!
Best vacation ever
The house is breathtakingly beautiful- beautifully designed, spacious, functional and full of spaces to relax and enjoy the gorgeous nature of Tuscany. Momo is a superb host, available and full of information. This is a perfect house for big or small groups to relax and enjoy the towns of Tuscany (or, just sit around the house and enjoy the beauty from the backyard). Montisi is a 10 min walk from the house and you can get your daily needs and have a great meal. I have no complaints whatsoever about this house and experience - it's a dream !
Amazing! Tranquil and stunningly beautiful
Three couples from the USA and Canada spent 2 weeks at beautiful Colombiao di Momo. From the moment we arrived, we knew we had found a little piece of heaven in Tuscany. It proved to be a fantastic vacation with memories made that will last a life-time.
The home is beautiful and comfortable, filled with lots of old-world charm with all the benefits of modern amenities in the kitchen and bathrooms. It is well-equipped and lovingly cared for. There are many wonderful touches like shelves filled with books and a kitchen fully equipped with everything you need to cook a Tuscan feast. We spent many hours outside on one of the three terraces enjoying the breathtaking views in every direction. It is extremely private, but yet just a short 10 minute walk to the lovely, quaint village of Montisi. We enjoyed walking into the village to shop at the small grocery and bakery or to pick up a cappuccino at Il Barrino. Our favorite restaurants were Il Barrino (upstairs from the bar) and Ristorante Ritorno di Fiamma...fantastic dining experiences. We loved spending quiet, peaceful days at Colombiao di Momo. However, it's also the perfect location for days you want to adventure out to other small charming hill towns with good restaurants, wineries and much to see.
And to top if off, Michael (Momo) is an exceptional host and wonderful person. We booked a year in advance and Michael was always helpful, quick to respond and happy to answer a multitude of questions. Michael gave us a warm welcome upon arrival and after two weeks we felt we had made a new friend. We had an issue with our rental van and he went above and beyond to help us find a solution. Michael is an amazing host.
This home comes with our highest recommendation.
Beautiful villa with views everywhere. Located reasonably closed to Montepulciano (30 mins.), Montelcino (30 mins.), and Siena (45 mins.). Kitchen was very well equipped; there were significant staples provided (maybe left by other visitors, but we found olive oil, basalmic vinegar, salt, pepper, sugar, coffee, dish soap etc). Fresh herbs (rosemary, oregano, basil, dill, sage, lavender) were throughout the gardens.). Michael was a gracious and friendly host who helped arrange for a balloon ride (only 10 mins. away) and for a cooking school with Alessandra (delicious and with enough food for two dinners, so don't do it your last night). We enjoyed the villa thoroughly. Thanks Michael!
Charming Tuscan villa in serene setting
Three couples spent 2 weeks here. Plenty of space for everyone. Each couple had a comfortable bedroom & their own modern bathroom; there is a 4th full bath on the lower level. Dining table easily sat the 6 of us. The grounds are private, lush with greenery (roses, jasmine, etc.). There are several outdoor seating areas, 2 with especially wonderful views of the countryside. Montisi is a quaint & quiet hill town with some good restaurants (we liked Ritorno di Fiamma). It is relatively easy to drive to other hill towns but just as tempting to spend relaxing time at Il Colombaio in the gardens reading and sketching as we often did. Try your hand with the brick pizza oven! The villa has both modern comforts as well as an abundance of authentic rustic charm. (If you have mobility issues just be aware there are some steps down to the kitchen and 2 of the bathrooms are also a few steps up or down -- think modern "split-level" meets centuries old authentic Tuscan farmhouse!). Momo is a great host who had many helpful suggestions of nearby places to go. Previous reviewers have raved about Il Colombaio. Believe them.
Located in central Tuscany, il Colombaio makes it easy to explore the area, discovering its foods, wines, and more. It is close to the towns of Pienza, Montalcino, Montepulciano, Cortona and the cities of Siena, Arezzo, Perugia. Il Colombaio di Momo is 1.5hr drive from Florence and 2hrs. from Rome. We are happy to help you with suggestions for daily outings, places to eat, spa's built around hot springs, guided historical or wine tours, truffle hunting tours, and give you schedules of musical events, nearby town festivals, schedules of local markets.
You can just as easily get a massage , yoga lesson, painting lessons, cooking class, bike tour, a balloon flight, or go horseback riding.
