Live the exceptionnal: a unique product in utmost downtown Pest - a FRENCH HOME DESIGNER'S own CONTEMPORARY APARTMENT IN A HISTORICALLY PROTECTED XIXth CENTURY BUILDING ten feet away from OKTOGON, the most beautiful place in Budapest and ANDRASSY, the Hungarian 'Champs-Elysées'. In a 1 minute walking vicinity: the lively open green terrasses restaurants of Litsz Ferenc Ter, Broadway's theatres, gastronomic hightlights and the splendor of the Opera!
By contrast, next street, farmers bring their own seasonal fruits and vegetables to the peasant daily market (don’t expect calibered): it’s just locals and peaceful, “village” atmosphere.
THE LOCATION IS FANTASTIC, as exclusive as practical. As is your apartment… You'll never find an easiest access to transport. The paradox being that you might never need it: You’re at the original core of Pest Golden triangle.
24 hours' groceries, pharmacy, supermarkets, banks, exchange offices, beauty shops and the tourism agency are almost downstairs.
Transports are at your door (tram 4 and 6, metro 3). The Szechenyi baths, the Heroes’ park and the city forest are on direct access with metro 3 at the end of Andrassy – five minutes on the other way bring you to the Danubius.
Go to the Jewish quarter behind Kiraly with its kitsch shops, ruin bars, local Hungarian and Kosher restaurants; admire old Europa’s biggest synagogue and Basilika's architecture. From Oktogon, Vaci (Fashion street) and the Danubius are straight away. Follow the luxurious shops and impressive XIXth century buildings of Andrassy, cross Deak ter (the 3 metros hub) and touch an empire lifestyle with the Gerbaut pastries. The illuminated bridges and Budapest’s finest monuments shine on the river and along Andrassy. You'll get lost in the beauty of the night.
Imagine that the patrician house that hosts you was originally created for two families only (one dealing with oriental furs and carpets, the other with famous gourmet catering and restaurant). In 1870, when count Andrassy decided to promote a sublime avenue, with Oktogon place and the perpendicular korut, Pest was glittering, attracting minds and money from all Europa.
The avenue itself (Terez) was stated the second greatest ancestral avenue of Budapest and declared a national patrimony as such, while Andrassy, the first, is a UNESCO world treasure. Both meet at Oktogon, ten seconds from your doors.
Unlock them… the real local life of Pest former elite inhabitants breathes here. Separated from the korut by thick walls and monumental gates, a hidden, secluded inner patio awaits you. Everything is as it was in 1880: iron balconies, airy arcades, sandstone stairs – except for the lift, a later fitting that will add to your comfort. The apartment is officially at second floor on a house of 3 (due to the atypical commercial architecture of the koruts, it's closer to a 4rth floor). You can see the stars from the patio at night and the lights of the courtyard give the house a unique romantic touch. Take a glass of Hungarian champagne or revel in a sunny breakfast in your own little private place facing the patio…
Your apartment doesn’t look on the korut but on an Art deco building in a small one-way street (Aradi). Totally renovated in 2013 by the owner – a French home designer / decorator who worked a lot in Asia – the 70 m² layout was rethought in a spirit of zen, design, natural luxury comfort while keeping the best features of the original soul: cathedral ceilings (4m10), century-old window and parkets; even a 1920 lamp, dating from the time when the apartment was turned into an office, remains. The glass mezzanine, conceived as an open bedroom with a king bed (180 cm), goes into an en-suite bathroom & a separate WC. The glass panel in-between is a see-throught for the stone fontain basin. From the mezzanine, you have a panoramic view on the 30m² living room. Hidden below lays the very comfortable Danish Innovation 140 cm sofa bed. This main level includes an Italian built-in kitchen, a second bathroom and another separate WC. 2 futon beds for 1 person are provided upon request so the apartment can accommodate up to 6 persons.
Still a couple in love with space & design or liking the idea of 2 bathrooms would greatly enjoy the place, its exclusive atmosphere and top-notch amenities (Kaldewei ceramic baths, Bosch & Gorenje kitchen appliances, Italian sanitaries and tiles). Part of the decoration comes from artists friends of the owner; a few Asian and Hungarian antiques put their own touch to the mix. Add the purity of Kwok Hoï Chan Zen chair and you'll just feel relaxed and zen yourself.
To further ensure your well-being, the apartment is non-smoking.
At your disposal: glassware, cookware, cutlery, napkins, toaster, juicer, coffee maker, electric kettle; fridge, oven, microwaves grill, induction cooking panel, extractor, dishwasher, washing & drying machine, fan tower, hair-dryer, iron, iron board, aspirator, a 1 m wide Philips TV with international channels incl. HBO, free and fast WIFI, city maps, towels, pillows, bed linens, spa amenities, an umbrella and a safe for your convenience.

I'm Julie from Budapest, Asia and Paris. My work is about renovation and decoration (so do not hesitate if you want to relocate ..:-.)
I was looking for the best location and then I felt in love with the courtyard and the 410 cm ceilings. Add to that that everything had to be demolished or redone... it was irresistible!
A good mix of XIXth century and XXIrst century to give you a real great feeling of Budapest
We were very happy with the accommodations and location. Julie left a welcoming bottle of champagne on the kitchen table and provided us with an amazing welcome/information packet prior to arrival with a lot of helpful information about public transportation, restaurants etc. The apartment is in the center of the city and located close to everything. We walked everywhere and did not feel the need to take public transportation except for the original Hop on Hop off bus which has locations close to the apartment and is a great way to get a little bit of history about the city and gives you a great overview of where things are located. Julie was very responsive to our needs and her maid met us at the apartment and called Julie on her cell to make sure we were happy with everything and to answer any questions. The bedroom is in a loft type of location which was fine for us, but if you have problems climbing stairs then you may need to consider alternative accommodations. There are 2 bathrooms, but only one of them has a toilet which is the one on the loft level. We wished there was one on the main level as well. Loved the art work and sleek look of the place (just like the photos). Would recommend new towels as the current ones were rough and thin and one of them had holes. The only day we wanted to sleep in, was affected by construction noises in the apartment above us which started at 8 am; so you may want to find out how long construction will be going on for (not Julie's fault). Overall, fantastic experience and I would stay there again.
The flat is located right across the street from a Metro stop, it's in a great neighborhood and 2 blocks from the famed Book Store Cafe, and 5 blocks from the New York Cafe.
Julie did a great job on the VRBO posting of describing the flat, view from the window and so forth.
We arrived a little non traditionally, we stayed at a Hotel at the Castle District (wife was there for a conference) and then we stayed for a vacation. Hence, we didn't come straight from the train station or airport. Julie was flexible on the timing of meeting with us. She was also very responsive via email during our stay (we had a few simple questions).
One suggestion that I offered was a french press (ask her if she got it!). Another reviewer mentioned the couch, I can see that, it's on the small side. So we streamed movies on our iPad and watched them in bed.
After booking, she emailed us several documents on how to get to her flat via taxi, train, metro, airport etc. and a "manual" on the home as well as local tips (places to eat etc).
As a VRBO owner (home in Belize), I can appreciate what it's like to be Julie and she does a GREAT job.
Perfect location in the Hotspot of Budapest. Historical building with modern apartment: very good taste & functional - good to digest for the brain so that one feels home immediately. Julie is very helpful. Perfect. I will come again.
The only problem wS that there could have been a comfortable sofa to be use for sitting and watching TV! It was otherwise very special and fun!
Both Julie and the apartment at Oktogon Square are amazing. Julie was absolutely charming, responsive, responsible, and helpful. She sent us a lot of information ahead of our arrivals, which was very helpful, and met us in person at the apartment to give us the keys and show us all about the apartment. This apartment has been recently been completely remodeled in painstakingly beautiful detail. The interior architectural remodel design features a super modern bedroom and bath area suspended above the living room and dining area. The three bathrooms are each beautifully done, with super modern and very elegant bathroom fixtures and architectural features. Art objects are found in even the bathrooms in their own special nooks and with their own special museum-like spotlights. The apartment is located in a beautiful old building with a special history in a central area of the city, near transportation and retail stores. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.
Title says it all! Location could not be better. At the middle of everything: museums, restaurants, Andrassy - that really made our stay a dream one. We could walk all day long and Budapest lights for Xmas make it fairylike. The apartment itself is top design and very comfortable. Last but not least, Julie helped us in so many ways (she booked a fantastic restaurant for Xmas for us; lend my husband a replacement phone when his broke...) ... so we just want to say a huge Thank you. We'll be back next summer.

So I would say, you can have:
- historic and romantic settings
- great and secured evenings (theatres, ruin bars, underground places, both local and gastronomic moments - enjoy nightlife walking in Pest); Danubius under the stars is not to be missed
- scenic and delightful thermal baths (don't miss Szechenyi, 7 minutes by metro on direct access from Oktogon; or Kiraly if you have a Turkish Roman soul asking to get lost in the real atmosphere)
