My wife Lois and I have lived in this home since 1987, having built a ceramic studio in the back for Lois who is a studio potter (I help her with things, but she's the star!). I'm a businessman who owns Barker Consulting Partners. Lois and I are active in our local church, mentoring young couples about to get married. During the summer, we love to sit at the Fairfield Beach and eat our salads from Chipotle and in the winter, slide down nearby Round Hill with our grandchildren. When we're not with our grandchildren, we mostly we talk about Lois's latest art project in her studio. We cannot say we are extroverts, but we like meeting people and hearing their stories (if they are interested in telling them). We've traveled extensively and love to talk about international locations (I've done business in 24 countries around the world and have visited 38). We're in our 60's but still pretty active: Lois in the studio and I'm approaching my 22nd year of snowboarding. Come stay with us!
William Barker purchased this studio in 1986
When Lois first walked into this house, she knew it was to be hers, despite my asking her not to fall in love with any house since that would make purchase negotiations harder! Having moved 14 times in the first 14 years of our married lives together, Lois and I have not moved from this house (or even considered it). We raised our daughter in this home and now we have the opportunity to share it with new friends -- and we love it!
It is not often that one can legitimately say there is a unique aspect to this house, but there is here: we have a working pottery studio attached and we welcome visitors to observe, try their hand casually, or even work out an arrangement to work here seriously.
We very much enjoyed our stay.. The apartment has just about everything we needed. I must say, the four poster bed is the most comfortable I have ever slept on. We hope to return next year.
Great find for us as we have family in Fairfield. Apartment is cozy with a fireplace, little kitchen, bathroom and living area. The bedroom area is divided from the living area which was fine. Most important was that our two dogs were allowed. The back yard and patio are there for your use as well. Owners were easy to communicte with and accomodating to our schedule. A perfect place that we will use again in the future!
Lovely people and property. The Barkers were gracious, available whenever needed but unobtrusive. They are attentive to small details which make a vacation feel like home. The property is private, well-appointed, and very comfortable.
This is a beautiful studio apartment -- nice size with a kitchenette, patio, semi-private sleeping area and bathroom complete with a washer and dryer. Even though we were only there one night, Bill and Lois made us feel quite welcome. It was almost like a B&B as they provide a generous continental breakfast for your first night. They even provided luxurious bathrobes. There was a washer/dryer unit complete with detergent! The only thing we didn't like it that we could hear people talking above us which was unexpected. Someone took a shower after 11 p.m. and it was quite noisy in our bedroom area.
Would I stay here again? Absolutely -- in spite of hearing the noises from the floor above. We've recommended it to relatives in the area who might have out of town guests visiting them.
The perfect place, great location, wonderful hosts. We loved it. Fairfield has so much to offer. Easy access to surrounding countryside, absolutely beautiful in the fall, great restaurants, entertainment, and so much more. We only got a chance to meet our host Bill, a truly marvelous soul, Lois seemed very busy with her business in their studio, creating works of art. We loved our stay!
We stayed at this property for ten days. It is located directly across the street from an entrance to the Fairfield University Campus. It is a short trip to Fairfield town center and a gorgeous beach. The apartment is lovely - beautifully furnished with exquisite antiques. It has a lovely patio, complete with dining furniture, umbrella, and gas grill. The gardens are carefully tended and in full bloom. The owners provided everything imaginable and were gracious without being intrusive. Overall, our stay was a wonderful experience!
