About Robert Bayer

We are a family of 6 that lived in this house for close to 10 years. We loved the house and the neighborhood, however, we had to move to another house in the San Diego area to take advantage of that area's special needs school for our youngest daughter.

Robert Bayer purchased this house in 2000

Why Robert Bayer chose San Diego County

The property is situated in one of the oldest residential neighborhoods in San Diego. We originally moved to this house because we enjoyed the convenience of the neighborhood being close to many of the major freeways, the downtown San Diego area, Balboa Park and the beaches. We loved the feel of the neighborhood and the eclectic mix of Spanish, Craftsman and modern homes.

What makes this house unique

We have kept the original hardware floors and kept the high arched living room ceiling. Being on top of a hill we continually feel the warm ocean beeezes so we do not need to use our central air conditioning very often. Our backyard area is bigger than most in this neighborhood so we landscaped it so there would be plenty of room for our kids to play and enjoy.

Lovely Home Suitable for a Crowd, Great Location.

  • 4 of 5

This house is in a great location. The neighborhood itself is quite walkable, with lots of interesting/aesthetically pleasing homes to look at. Junipero Serra Park and the Old Town San Diego State Park are also quite nearby. The house itself is FANTASTIC for large gatherings. We held a family reunion here with 9 people (six adults and three children), and there were plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms, plus plenty of space for all of us to relax and hang out. (It seems as though the house no longer has the bunk beds that we were expecting -- but there were plenty of other beds, so no harm done). The kitchen was well-equipped, and we enjoyed cooking several family dinners together. In addition, the children loved the playset in the meticulously landscaped back yard.

We encountered only two small glitches during our stay. First, the owners of the houses on either side of this property had placed signs that read "Neighborhoods are for neighbors - NOT short-term vacation rentals" in prominent locations on their properties. Apparently, San Diego (like many cities) is having quite a lively conversation over whether to allow short-term vacation rentals, and we felt as though we had unknowingly walked right into the middle of a feisty debate. While we did encounter a few unhappy looks from one of the neighbors, who scowled at us from a distance, nobody bothered us in any significant way. Second, the washing machine was broken; it stopped halfway through a wash cycle, when our clothes were sopping wet. The owners of the home were very responsive and picked up the phone when we called (even though they were in London, England!), but it was unfortunately after hours, so they couldn't get a repair technician there before we left the following day. We ended up having to take our clothing to a laundromat in order to finish washing it. Other than those two glitches, we had a wonderful time at this property, and all of us would highly recommend it. If you're looking for a comfortable, airy, modern home to live in during your trip to San Diego, look no further.

Our family did a week in SD to go visit the Zoo, Safari Park, beach, etc. and this place could not have been more perfect. The house was big enough that everyone got their own bedroom and felt they had their own space, but also allowed us to have meals and down time together. Overall, the house was very comfortable and only after a day or so felt like a home away from home.

The location was also ideal - about 10 min from parks, the zoo, downtown, the beach, everything!

We highly recommend this for families of all types & sizes (we had several small children), and felt like a much better option than a hotel. We got to spend so much time together and will always be thankful for our week in SD.

Best in town!

  • 5 of 5

In August my family, and I, decided to escape the Tucson heat and attend a small family reunion in San Diego. The cool change in temperature was great, but what made it better still was the opportunity to stay in nice house and be with family that we hadn't seen in years. During our entire time there, we never felt like we were stepping on anyone else's toes, because the rooms are so spacious and the layout of the house not only made that easy, but gave us all plenty of privacy as well. There was a bedroom for everyone and plenty of bathrooms to go around. The living room and dining room were more than big enough for the clan to hang out in, plus the kitchen was big enough for several people to work in at the same time to keep us all fed. The house was spotless, the neighbors friendly and the location made it easy to find our way around. San Diego is a great city, Rob and Virginia are excellent owners/landlords and we would love to do it all again next summer. Especially now that we have found our permanent vacation home!

A home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to San Diego and rather than doing the hotel route this time, we were lucky enough to find this gem of a house. Right from the get go, the owner emailed us the directions to the place, along with a nice little flyer with tips about staying there, which really made us feel welcome way before we even showed up. What a nice touch! When we arrived we found the place to be immaculate and well equipped for any size family. All appliances and fixtures are top notch, plus the house is huge with lots of room to stretch out and relax. The place is also in a great location with easy access to the interstate and near a lot of San Diego's attractions. What we liked the most, and something that is often overlooked, is that by renting a house versus staying in a hotel we felt a lot less like tourists and more like neighbors. That is something that you just can't put a price tag on and something which we look forward to doing again soon!
