We had a wonderful time at Ellen's cottage. Our family enjoyed eating breakfast on the front deck and having dinner in the lovely back room that is screened in. The cottage is located down a quiet, secluded lane, but it is only a 10 minute walk through the forest to the lovely Stanhope/Ross Beach.
The bike trails were a pleasant surprise - we rented bikes at Dalvay and were able to bike to the golf course (driving range), to Brackley Beach and to Richard's for a delicious dinner out.
All in all, a great spot!
We had an excellent week long stay at Ellen's cottage. The area is quiet and very close to a nearby Stanhope beach (10 minute walking distance). The cottage was clean upon arrival and has lots of space for relaxing - we were a group of 2 couples and the cottage was large enough for both parties to coexist easily and not feel like we were in each other's way which was great.
Ellen met us easily upon check in and showed us the cottage thoroughly as well as the various amenities included. She was also happy to answer or address any questions we had which made our stay stress free.
We definitely recommend staying at this location for small groups or a family looking to book their vacation in PEI - thank you Ellen!

We had a wonderful time staying at Ellen's family cottage. The cottage was impeccably clean, well equipped and bathed in natural light. The screened in porch is beautiful. We were travelling with our two young children and appreciated the spaciousness of the living/dining/kitchen area. The fireplace was a nice thing to have handy, as the weather was unusually chilly during our first few days. The beach nearby is a real draw. It's about a 5-10 minute walk away from the cottage through a small forested area. There are lifeguards on site, and you can walk for miles along the gorgeous sandy shore, which is is virtually deserted in the mornings and evenings. Even at the peak afternoon hours there might be about 10-12 families around the lifeguard area. Our hosts were incredibly thoughtful and gave us a warm welcome and were always available to answer questions. The only downside we weren't expecting were the mosquitoes, which makes it tricky for the kids to play outside. But the screened in porch was useful, and once you get to the beach there are no mosquitoes. A good time was had by all and we hope to return one day!
The central location of the cottage is what drew us to this rental: it is directly adjacent to PEI National Park, and is walking distance to the beaches via the National Park bike trail. It's central location makes Charlottetown an easy 20 minute drive, North Rustico and Cavendish half and hour or less, and the Eastern half of the island a comfortable drive.
However it is the ambiance of the cottage that made it wonderful. The cottage was clearly a well loved vacation home, with touches that make it special and all the amenities you could want. The deck was absolutely the best! The deck was positioned to get morning sun for coffee and also late afternoon sun for post beach drinks. In the back there is a furnished screened porch with an adjacent BBQ deck, perfect for an al fresco dinner!
The owners were communicative and very informative both before and during our stay. Rob was friendly and available nearby as a source of good advice on places to eat and shop as well as suggestions for outings.
We stayed for two weeks in the last half of September and experienced a few unusually cool evenings that we were able to pleasantly temper by the fireplace/woodstove in the living room. Our late season stay was perfect for long walks on the beaches, bike rides along the National Park (Dalvay to Brackley & North Rustico to Cavendish) and on the Confederation Trail (especially St. Peters to Morell), and opportunities to explore the fishing villages. We recommend North Rustico (good dining, CoOp, bakery, fish shop, boardwalk) and Souris (boardwalk and lobster rolls) and Montague (lovely harbor boardwalk linked to Confederation Trail). A rainy day took us to Charlottetown for sightseeing (see Province House) and Confederation Hall's multimedia historical presentation. Don't miss the Farmer's Market on Saturdays in September.
In short, its location and features made the cottage a wonderful home base for a PEI vacation!

Close to fine dining including The Dunes, the Olde Glasgow Mill and Dalvay By the Sea. Fresh fish and seafood available nearby at wharfs; lobster pounds and deep sea fishing close by, including Covehead Harbour (Richard's) and North Rustico's Fisherman's Wharf. Centrally located, twenty minutes to Charlottetown and summer threatre, entertainment, and more restaurants.
