We offer a fantastic kitchen for the chef in you, and you are welcome to greens n veggies from our gardens and apples and pears from our orchards! Mary is a master canner, so chat her up if you are up for canning!! We are centrally located to a plethora of activities, or...just flop at the Cabin and get away from it all! X country ski on the ranch in the winter, or soak in the famous Glenwood Hot springs or the newer Iron Mountain pools,..rock climb in Rifle, hunt in Section 42, go to the play, ski Sunlight, Vail or Aspen, all are close! Grab some board games, relax in the glider. Life is good. We welcome you with open arms to our world. It is unique and simple, and you will love it.

About Terry and Mary

Terry was born to the ranch and this life. He and I run this Ranch as a couple, and make a good team..but without our newest Lakeland Terrier, miss Eskwyre's Lancashire Rose, our 2 cattle dogs: Rudiger and Giesela, who are pepper and salt Natural Giant schnauzer imports, and the Grande Dam, Foxy....and the rest of the critters, we would be pretty boring. Our goats keep us busy, as well as our elk and gee, our custom hay business and these cabins, and horses and cattle, and life. Whew. Glad when winter comes.

Terry and Mary purchased this cabin in 1898

Why Terry and Mary chose Garfield

our cabin is historical and special. A glimpse of real ranch life is fascinating to others, we have found. Please relax and unwind up here, we welcome you.

What makes this cabin unique

We are so close to the hot springs, or our local's hot pots, as we call them, and really love the privacy and the solitude that we can offer to the world. we are minutes away from world class rock climbing as well, and have had climbers as far away as germany stay here for weeks. Please let us show you the elk pen cabin as well as this one, and NOW we are going underground! whooo hooo...never a dull moment here!

Perfect getaway with pets!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay, though it was cut short due to a change in our schedules. Mary is a lovely host! The cabin is well equipped and cozy - bring some of your own books, games, and non-electronics and digital detox for a weekend! The internet was spotty and slow at best. We would recommend planning on being disconnected - it's such a nice place to visit, why ruin it with your cell phone. :)

This cabin was a real treat to stay at!!!

  • 5 of 5

Terry and Mary are two of the nicest people you will ever meet! The cabin was a real treat to stay at. It was clean, cozy and the kids had a blast! The kids really enjoyed the goats, wild burros, elk and all the family pets of Mary and Terry, especially Foxy, the 15 year old Jack Russell that loved hanging with the kids! I really hope that we will be able to make another visit next summer!!

Too loud

  • 1 of 5

We stayed here Oct 2015.

It's a working ranch, and to be fair the owners do let you know that before you book. But I didn't realize working ranch meant you have 18 wheel trucks driving on the cattle guard next to the house all night on a Friday and Sat night. And I mean ALL night! Midnight, 2 am, 3am and so on.

The cabin is cute and looks just like the photos but it's littered with flies. I mean at least a 100 if not more. Not sure where they come from but no matter how many we killed there was more the next day. This was not for us but someone else might find it charming.

Owner's Response: Dear Roz and Family, We are shocked and dismayed at your review. You said nothing while you were here, and we thoroughly enjoyed your boys and collie. To see this 9 months after your stay really stings. Please let us make it up to you and come and try our other cabin....ON US!!! I do not recall the traffic, but they sure could have been moving cows out all night. We would have moved you ASAP! I don't know what to say about the fly count either. Sounds horrific, and I have personally cleaned that cabin for years and not seen that many over all the years put together. OUR APOLOGIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! people come here for quiet and with four homes on four thousand acres, that is what they get. Usually. YES, we are a working ranch, and that being said, we are up at 5 and down by 10. Nights are spent regenerating, sleeping well with mountain breezes and only the sounds of the coyote to lull us to slumber. Again, I will call you as well. but please come back, we have only had 5 star reviews and are severely deflated by this account.

cozy and beautiful

  • 5 of 5

This is a perfect get away from the City! The house is beautiful and has everything you need. The kitchen was so useful as we don't eat out that much. We stayed over the Christmas break with my family of 5. Mary and Terry are just wonderful hosts. The drive to the cabin is easy to find. The scenery is beautiful and so much wildlife. We ran out of eggs on Christmas day when grocery stores were closed and Mary was kind enough to share her eggs with me. We will come back again!

Lovely Summer Stay!

  • 5 of 5

Mr. and Mrs. Porter were wonderful hosts and the cabin itself was a perfect combination of rustic and having all amenities for a very pleasant stay. The kitchen and bathrooms were well stocked and linens/pillows/bed/couch/cots very comfortable. The area is beautiful with wildlife all around and the family enjoyed their trail ride with Mrs. Porter. We also had an issue (on our part) that Mr. and Mrs. Porter were very gracious with and took time out of their busy days to visit with us to amicably resolve it. They are wonderful people! One minor recommendation: it would be great to have a screen door on the cabin to let the morning sunshine and the cool evening breezes in without the bugs. =-) Great hosts, cabin, and location -- we hope to return!

Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed for week and had a blast. The cabin was perfect for our family of 6. Easy access to Rifle Falls, Glenwood Springs, and a grocery store. Mary was very sweet.

Whitewater Rafting and Horseback Riding for the ultimate day in the Mountains, we call it the paddle and saddle program, call us to see the discounts if you do both !!!

ALSO, we enjoy snow shoeing in the winter, with plenty of hills to climb or sled down off of. We are the only place on the earth where you stay right next to our elk herd. Listen to the whistles and bugles in the fall, and watch our speckled babies in the spring. Our birds and wildlife are protected here on the Ranch, and we have many exotic species that stop over here for safety and solitude. Do it yourself, ...nothing to chirp or whistle artificially. ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. Unwind and enjoy our cabins. ..another one being built on top of our world. complete with yoga glassed in studio. so cool.
