This newly renovated and totally refurbished 3 bed, 3 bath house has been lavished with upscale finishing touches that make it the hottest rental property in the town.

It was available for rental for the first time in March 2011.

LOCATION

Today Harbour Island is regarded as one of the gems not only of the Bahamas, but also of the whole Caribbean region. Its fabulous three mile pink coral beach is rightly seen as the biggest tourist magnet as well as the friendly locals and its fantastic array of stylish restaurants and boutique hotels.

Strawberry House is on the favoured Bayside and within two minutes walk to the best restaurants on the island – The Landing and The Rock House – just a five minute cart ride to famous pink beach

HISTORY

If you know Harbour Island, then you know all about the quaint “New England” architecture that takes on a distinct Caribbean and Colonial style that manifests itself in the heart of Dunmore Town.

Strawberry House not only defines this style but also has become one of the most photographed and painted houses with its iconic octagonal weather-vane tower and its delicious strawberry colored exterior.

Reputedly built around 1840, the House is one of the few limestone houses on the island and was originally built for the renowned local Albury family – at one time was the local hardware store.

OUTDOOR LIVING

Outdoor entertainment area with bar, gas grill, and covered kitchen area, Swimming pool with beautiful landscaping and shaded areas and Several outdoor terraces to either relax or watch the world go by.

ELEGANT ACCOMMODATION

Last year the house changed owners and has been extensively, but sympathetically renovated to make the three bedroom, three bath accommodation suitable for 21st century living. As Its new British owners’ winter residence they have lavishly equipped Strawberry House with a custom designed full kitchen incorporating upscale appliances, beautiful silver gray travertine bathrooms and an amazing outside entertaining area which includes a covered outdoor kitchen and rose color granite countertops. Yet they have retained the feel of a historic Bahamian house.

Inspired by cool gray driftwood tones the house has a light airy feel with the whole of the ground floor magnificently tiled in silver travertine tiles and the walls beautifully faux finished to create a truly inspiring overall impression.

Lounge

A cathedral style pecky cypress ceiling has been beautifully pickled and enables two Fanimation twin fans to steal the limelight. The whole ceiling is surrounded by a beautiful 12 inch coving which conceals lighting that adds a beautiful luster in the evening. The walls are faux finished by a local painter in cream and beige tones to contrast the original dark stained abaco pine floorboards.

Re-furnished with upscale furniture from Drexel Heritage and Restoration Hardware.

Kitchen

The kitchen has been designed for practicality and entertaining. Two long Corian countertops are framed with a superb double bowl granite sink. A custom fit French Door Fridge Freezer, a beverage cooler for wine, together with Kitchen Aid Dishwasher, Cooker, Warming Drawer and Microwave make up the essentials of the kitchen.

Master Bedroom

Whilst the old master bedroom was large (by Bahamian Cottage standards) – the master bath was tiny and featured a tiny shower room and washbasin. By radically redesigning the available space the new owners have created a truly beautiful master suite that includes twin closets, twin bowl vanity unit, a separate shower and a luxurious slipper tub. The whole bathroom has full height silver travertine tiles accented by complementary mosaic and dado tiles. Kohler faucets and a unique floor mounted mixer faucet for the tub. A shutter wall in distressed maple divides the bathroom from the bedroom affording as much or as little privacy as required.

The master bedroom is dominated by a Queen bed from Heavenly at Westin® and has two mirrored nightstands. Either the remote controlled air conditioning unit or the stylish Fanimation ceiling fan achieves a comfortable temperature. The décor is the same as the upstairs living area with a blend of cream, beiges and grays. French doors lead to a private terrace for early morning coffee or breakfast.

A motorized drop down lift conceals the 32” Flatscreen TV to enable a great garden view.

2nd Master Suite

The bedroom has another Queen bed from Heavenly at Westin® with antique ivory nightstands and matching headboards. A mirrored armoire provides ample storage space together with a tall cupboard. Like the main master, air conditioning is remote controlled and a Fanimation® fan offers an alternative. The bedroom is decorated in light blue to complement the view through to the pool by way of full-length plantation shutters to the bath.

A 26inch flatscreen TV is fixed to the wall.

The adjoining bathroom has a delightful vanity unity with marble countertop and a tub and integrated shower. Plantation shutters in the bathroom offer privacy from the pool. Once again full height silver travertine tiling is used in the bath with matching flooring

Guest Bedroom

In order to offer flexible accommodation the second guest bedroom has twin beds in a stunning weathered oak with matching nighstand and dresser.

Again a 26inch Flatscreen TV, a Mitsubishi a/c unit and a Fanimation fan complete the bedroom.

Adjacent to the bedroom is a charming “Jack and Jill” shower room with a vanity unit that matches the bedroom furniture. As ever silver travertine is used throughout and weathered oak plantation shutters offer privacy.

About Andrew Jackson

Andrew and Pauline have been married for over thirty years and originate from England. We have two sons and a gorgeous granddaughter born in March of this year.

In 2006 we were fortunate to take early retirement and discovered Harbour Island. Since then we have spent much of our winter on the island and spend the summer in the south of France.

We enjoy skiing, boating, a bit of fishing and drinking Provence rose interspersed with the odd gin and tonic.

This is not a vacation rental in the ordinary sense of the meaning as we spend a good few months at the property. As such we have furnished the property as a home rather than as merely an income generator.

Therefore Strawberry House has been a labour of love, lavishing neat touches and upscale fittings and fixtures to ensure a luxurious living experience.

Superb!

It is the third time we have stayed at Strawberry and it never disappoints. From the moment we contacted Andrew, the team was both responsive and personal - and usually willing to do a deal!

As always the House is well presented and superbly located with the beach just a few minutes stroll away and our favorite restaurants a couple of minutes away. Superb.

We LOVE Strawbery House! LOOK NO FURTHER!

We LOVE Strawberry House! Since our first visit six years ago, we look forward to our return each year. Strawberry House has become our island home away from home, enjoyed by each member of our family and friends. Centrally located to enable an easy walk to market, bakery, shops, restaurants, spa, water sport and the dock, we are also able to close doors to the world with Strawberry as our private retreat. Offering an away spot for anyone who wants one, we enjoy the quiet, lovely garden and pool area on the ground level and the wonderfully spacious second floor balcony porch with both sun and shade and an additional up top porch from which you can see for miles. After a late afternoon walk on the pink sand beach, we return for cocktails and to watch GORGEOUS Bahamian sunsets over the harbor before supper, either prepared in Strawberry's very well appointed kitchen or out at one of the delightfully local or notably exquisite restaurants nearby. LOOK NO FURTHER! Strawberry House meets ALL your vacation needs. You will not find a lovelier or more satisfying vacation experience than you will at Strawberry House. We are SO looking forward to our next visit!

Book it before this gem is gone!

This house is a gem and likely one of the best, if not the best, on Harbour Island. The owners have gone above and beyond in making this house a really special place. We loved the attention to detail. Little things like the color coordinated towels which are different for each of the rooms, the potpourri and scents, the Christmas three and fresh flowers are just some of the little extras. The house is decorated to an extremely high standard and if you enjoy cooking while on holiday the kitchen and outside bar ar amazing. Location wise there seem to be two groups of people on Harbour island: the ones who like to be on the beach side and the other who like to be on the harbour side. We prefer the harbour side: it's never too windy, and relaxed but not deserted and there's still a bit of a slight buzz (on the Harbour Island scale of course). Anyway you can't go wrong with this rental. The property is even better in real life. Thanks Andrew, we'll be returning soon.

Perfect Briland Escape

Our family has had the opportunity to stay at Strawberry House on 3 occasions over the past 5 years, and we could not be more pleased with the combination of location, amenities, privacy, and overall experiences we have had. Some highlights include:

- The pool area is beautiful, with enough surrounding palm trees that you can that you can always find sun or shade. We spent every afternoon poolside after long days at the beach, fishing, or exploring wonderful Harbour Island, and it was the perfect way to cool and transition to whatever the evening held for us. Also important, there is a dedicated WiFi for the pool area!!

- All of the bedrooms are comfortable, private, have en suite bathrooms, and are very elegantly appointed.

- A fully outfitted chef's kitchen and an outdoor grill, with large indoor and outdoor eating areas for those times you want to cook-in or get take-away.

- Many indoor and outdoor areas to sit, relax, and either engage with your group or slip away for some alone time.

- An outdoor covered bar area with water, refrigeration, and ice. Really convenient when you are at/in the pool or enjoying the large outdoor seating area.

- A large, secure, covered veranda area outside of the main entrance to leave your sandy flip-flops, your stash of sunscreen, and (in our case) our baby stroller!!

- The Property Manager and Housekeeper who are the absolute best! The answer to any question is just a call or text away, and the house always looked great even with our family of 5!

Overall we could not be more pleased with the time was have spent at Strawberry house, and look forward to going back again and again as we feed our Briland addiction!

beautifully appointed in great location

Our group of four adults and two tweens were a perfect fit for this lovely home. The bay side location is a block from the water taxis and all the restaurants and shops in Dunmore Town. While folks have their preferences for one side or the other, I like the bay side as it is less blustery at night on the verandas etc. We used golf carts to zip around (mostly to the grocery and out at evenings to resorts and restaurants and the ocean side) but much of the island is walkable. Each morning we walked to the opposite side of the island (5 minutes--a minute by golf cart) and did 4 mile beach walks -- heaven! We runned speed boats most days too. So much to do and the water is always beckoning. Andrew's home offers many areas for enjoyment indoor and out. Nice views, comfortable nooks, private and lush. The kids were in the pool everyday. The adults enjoyed cocktails on the mid-level and topside perches. Nice breezes made for perfect nights. We cooked in for breakfast and several dinners which is a money saver as the restaurants are pricey. The kitchen has much of what you need--not gourmet but better than most rentals for sure and a water cooler. The beds were extremely comfortable and the bedroom AC units made for a good night's rest. Daily light cleaning service and on-island house manager were appreciated. Truly a great experience and beautiful home and a big contributor to how much we loved Harbour Island. We will rent this same place when we return (which I hope is soon!)

Perfection! This is a magical island home

What a truly wonderful and unforgettable stay at a Strawberry House. From the moment we stepped into this beautifully renovated and charmingly decorated heritage home on Harbour Island, we felt as if we were in a very special place indeed. Spacious and luxurious, the rooms are appointed with all the mod cons you might need, while retaining all the best aspects of Bahamian style. The air conditioning is state of the art, which in August was a must! and made the house a lovely cool retreat from the heat of the day. There was always a perfect spot on one of the many verandas for reading or book or relaxing. And the pool was a real plus. We loved our time here, and it added a whole level to our stay on Harbour Island, which is a gem in itself! We felt very taken care of by the property staff, and everything was always immaculate.

A bonus was some of the best nights sleep, the beds are amazing, so good in fact - I'm recreating it at home! This is a great location on the island as you get to watch the sunsets, if you want to see the sunrise, you just get up early and take a 3 minute golf cart ride to Pink Sand beach, perfect! Some of our favourite places to eat are within easy walking distance, plus of course you have a great kitchen for eating in. I've been coming Harbour Island for a few years now, and this is by far the most stellar accommodation yet. This is truly a home and not just a vacation property. Highest recommendation.
