About the Property
As one of our most family friendly options, the Meadows has been known to welcome guests home with the wafting smells of home cooked meals and din of board games played in the spacious common atrium. This property’s safe, communal atmosphere makes it a popular choice for large groups with kids. The Meadow’s namesake feature, beautiful Kirkwood Meadow, takes off from the back side of the building, providing cross-country skiing trails in the winter, and wildflower-dotted trails in the summer. Easy access to the meadow and the serenity it provides is a huge selling point for many of our guests.
The Meadows complex provides all guests with complimentary wifi access. The lobby area serves as a great meet-up space for families and groups before heading out, though comfy lounge chairs and a large central fireplace beckon you to sit and stay a while. A common area cooking facility is helpful for groups staying in separate condos, and a large sunny deck offers another place to mingle on nice days. Coin-op laundry facilities and a seasonal indoor hot tub round out the amenities for this complex. There are no ski lockers available however you have a private balcony.

The property is very functional and well set-up for the purpose of a ski lodge. However it is a bit rundown, and some of the Red Awning policies made the stay less than optimal. I am thinking primarily of the awkward check in - check out times. You cannot check in before 4 o'clock. That means that if you want to drive up the mountain and ski the same day, you won't have a place to change or store your clothes. I was charged an extra fee to get into a room that had already been cleaned, which felt like somewhat of a rip-off. Check out times are equally awkward: 11:00 means that you can't get in a decent morning of skiing and still have a place to change for the drive home. I'm not happy about the extortionate food prices charged at all of the Vail Properties facilities (and there are almost none in Kirkwood that are not). The only non-predatory pricing I found was at the private 7800 Bar and Grill in the Towers - good food, reasonable prices. Bottom line: AWESOME skiing, OK apartment, bring your own groceries.

This property is managed by Red Awning on behalf of its owner. They are very good and the property was very clean, had good linens, and they were responsive. The property, however is not in great shape. The flue to the fireplace was broken, reported to Red Awning immed upon arrival, but not addressed by building management. The front burner on the stove does not work -- a gas stove btw -- also reported to Red Awning and not addressed by the building. I don't mind the lack of decor updates but the non functionality of key items and the fact the building would not address them is a turnoff. There is not even basic cable in the room (13 channels only) -- this is by owner's choice. The Internet was ok. Owner does not provide key to ski locker in spite of building policy requiring this given signs everywhere prohibiting storing skis in room. Underground parking was good, and proximity to slopes very good. Would recommend as sufficient but we did not enjoy it per se.
