My husband and I moved to Costa Rica from British Columbia, Canada in 1982. We fell in love with this area of Guanacaste, bought our farm and settled here. In the following years we raised our family of four children and developed a canopy (zipline) tour on our farm. Widowed in 2006, my children and I are dedicated to conserving the dry tropical forest on our lands, sharing the local wonders with tourists from around the world, and as of 2011, offering convenient and comfortable accomodation for travellers.
Deborah purchased this apartment in 2010
In 1982 Samara was fairly isolated but with pristine local beaches... Carrillo, Samara, Camaronal, Buena Vista. Lush and filled with wildlife, there was also enough community here to offer an interesting local school option for our very young children.
Nowadays Samara has all the conveniences of good roads, modern telecommunications, shopping options and a core community of Costa Ricans whose way of life still embodies 'pura vida', i.e. connectedness to the surrounding natural beauty and a 'laid-back' lifestyle. Samara Beach is world-renowned for its safety as a swimming beach. Our community offers a popular local language school, massage school, yoga classes, surf schools, a spa, as well as all ocean-related activities including seasonal whale and dolphin-watching.
The Mardelindo Apartment is located 1 km. from the town center, easy walking distance, and a scant 100 m. from the beach for the pleasure of all of you ocean lovers.
We spent 2 weeks of our Costa Rican vacation at this apartment. What a delightful "home away from home". The respect that Deborah has for her clients is evident the moment you walk through the door. It is immaculate with special attention given to detail. From the tasteful furnishings and well thought out touches..all to ensure a comfortable stay. The photos of the property looked lovely and the reviews positive however this apartment did exceed our expectations.
Ziplining..apprehensive at first but Deborah assured us that the tour would be safe and great fun. How right she was! We had a great time! The guides were jovial, friendly and patient.
A short walk into town and a 5 minute walk to the beach, this has to be the jewel of Samara.. Deborahs kindness, friendly disposition, integrity and a wish to provide a positive experience are a stand out and we look forward to our next visit.
My husband and I just spent a month in one of these apartments. We chose this spot because of the photos and reviews. We were not in the least bit disappointed! We thoroughly enjoyed our Costa Rican experience and now understand Pura Vida!
The apartment is exactly as it is represented in the photos. Clean, bright, open and tastefully decorated. The kitchen is very well equipped and the BBQ is an added bonus. There are some very welcomed extras, such as numerous quality towels and linens, great beach towels and chairs. We did not lack any of the comforts of home.
The apartment is on the outskirts of town, but it really is a 5 minute walk to the beach and about 15 minutes along the beach to town. We did not want to rent a car this vacation and we never regretted our decision. If we needed to get to or from town, a taxi was always available and reasonably priced. The bus also stopped right out the door. For us, a daily walk became routine.
The beach is beautiful. It changes drastically from high to low tide. It is an amazing place to run - early morning or early evening. Safe for children, but fun for adults and many aquatic activities. Sunsets are spectacular!
The town is very laid back, but with all the necessary conveniences. Everyone is very friendly and we always felt safe. Good number and variety of restaurants. There is a great information service in town that will help direct you towards many different tours or just answer questions.
Deborah, the owner/manager is also a great help. She is available at all times and wants her guests to be happy. Her sons run the Canopy tour and that is a must activity!! Very professional and exciting but safe for all ages. There is even a discount for tenants.
As mentioned in other reviews, this apartment is on the main road. There is noise, up until around 10 at night. The roosters ,dogs and monkeys also make themselves known, but all of this is part of the "true" Costa Rican experience. We so enjoyed our morning coffee on our balcony and an evening drink as the sun set, watching the world go by. We really felt like became a part of the community.
All in all, a wonderful home away from home in a beautiful country.
These two classy apartments are situated about 3 minutes from the beauty of Playa Samara, one of the best and safest beaches in Costa Rica. We spent most of our time walking the spacious beaches, bobbing in the waves, and collecting the interesting shells that the sea offers up everyday. We did not need a car during our stay, but if you have one, there is lots of safe off-street parking. Returning to Deborah's Mardelindo Apartments after a long hard day at the beach, we were greeted by non-intrusive howler monkeys, shy iguanas and geckos and even the odd chicken pecking in the grass. The private outdoor shower was a must before entering the spotless apartment. Deborah's flair for artistic decoration and detail is apparent in every part of this two-level apartment. She has also included lots of fluffy white towels and extra bedding, pretty cushions galore, even huge beach towels and portable beach chairs. If you are staying here, you are probably interested in doing your own cooking, and the fully-equipped kitchen will not disappoint. There is also a full laundry room with all the products you would have at home. The apartment is probably designed for a couple, with one bedroom upstairs, but there is lots of room downstairs for a couple of kids to sleep on the couch or huge window seat. The Canopy Tour business is downstairs from the apartments and gives a discount for tenants. There is a busy road in front of the apartment and you will hear the traffic until around midnight, but after that the only sound is the friendly chirp of the gecko and the crow of the rooster at dawn.
My husband and I stayed in one of Deborah's two apartments over the Christmas holiday. It was beautifully decorated and furnished with granite countertops, new kitchen and bathroom, A/C, overhead fans as the pictures depict. It was easy to communicate with her and booking and payment were easy. It's not on the beach, but a 3 minute walk down a dirt road (past her house) to the beach. The bus stops directly in front of the apartment which is above her office, Wingnuts canopy tour. It's a 10 minute walk in to Samara town along the beach. Being directly on the road, it was a little noisy at night, but we used our earplugs! We would definitely stay again.
My husband and I stayed for 4 weeks at this apartment in May/early June. The apartment is quiet, light and airy, very spacious and well appointed. We lacked for nothing. We were treated to a harvest of mangoes from her tree and the monkeys came by to do their own harvest, as well...a special treat! We were students at the Interculltura Language School and the apartment was well suited for study time and homework. Debra is available if needed and a very pleasant person. We also loved being only a block or two from the beach. We would certainly stay again and agree with all other positive reviews.
Where do I start? Our stay was absolutely wonderful. Everything was perfect.
We had the pleasure of staying in this condo for 2 months. It was a dream. This condo is an easy short walk to the beach.! The condo itself is large and comfortable, with air conditioning and 3 ceiling fans, clean and cool - nice linens, comfortable beds, washer and dryer, nice furniture, tasteful decorations, and a large kitchen with all the plates, utensils, pans, etc you need. We did not have a car and didn't need one.
We really liked this place and its location, and I imagine that you will, too.
Owner Deborah knows how to make their guests feel relaxed and comfortable. She lives close approx. 3 min walk and she is also very accessible by email or phone. You deal directly with the owner and not a property Manager. it is nice to know she will be quick to respond to any queries that you may have.
Canopy Tour (ziplining) discount included, ATV tours, motorcycle rentals, turtle-watching (seasonal), dolphin tours, whale-watching (seasonal), local language school, massage school, surf schools, yoga classes, excellent bird-watching

Due to the high cost of electrical service in this area and the unpredictable nature of the electric bill due to the optional use of air conditioning, lighting, fans, etc... the renter is responsable for the power bill for any stay longer than 1 week. The rate is determined by meter readings at the beginning and near the end of the reservation period by a quick trip to the local power company office. This charge can be deducted from the deposit unless other arrangement is made.
I require a security deposit of $300 to be paid upon arrival. I no longer ask for money transfers before the arrival of my guests. To eliminate expensive bank or other money transfer fees I accept cash payment only and this is received at the beginning of the reservation period. There are two local banks which dispense cash in dollars if needed.
