About Eamonn Berry

I grew up in my parents house which is across the street and I went to school in lettermullen .I currently live in a suburb of Chicago Illinois in the united states with my family.

Why Eamonn Berry chose County Galway

The original house on the site was passed down to me from my fathers family, even though that house no longer exists the layout is similar .it feels good to still have a connection to the place that I grew up in.

What makes this house unique

My favorite part of going home and staying at the house is getting up early ,making coffee and sitting out side as the sun rises .I think that is worth the trip there and everything else is a bonus.

Beautiful and restful

  • 5 of 5

We (8 members of our family, from 18-65) stayed in the cottage for 4 nights -- we enjoyed the quiet location, exploring local beaches, and finding local pubs. The house was very comfortable and worked well for our group. There is no Wifi or landline and we could not get cell service -- plan ahead with any internet searching you want to do for local sights -- and then enjoy the pleasures of an old-fashioned holiday! From the cottage, we visited Letterfrack Poets' Trail, Connemara National Park, Kylemore Abbey, Clifden and local towns close by. In rainy weather, we had the excuse to sit indoors and talk over cups of tea and local bread and cake kindly supplied by Mary Berry. A soul reviving place -- we look forward to returning.

Gorgeous Sunrise

  • 5 of 5

We spend week in the beautiful house and used it as a base to explore Galway. The house is large, very well appointed and tastefully decorated. The beds are very comfortable and the quilts wonderful. The fireplace is very cozy and very helpful since it can get chilly. You can see a spectacular sunrise outside your window (I woke up to it one morning at 6:00 am and took lots of pictures). Mary Berry is absolutely wonderful with great advice and a great sense of humor. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting her and chatting with her. We hope that we can see her again sometime. One of our favorite hangout places was a little cafe, Bia Blasta in Carraroe. It is close to Tra an Dollin, a coral beach. We spent a wonderful day at the Connemara National Park and Kylemore Abbey. We visited a very quaint village of Oughterard where we marveled at the gorgeous hydrangeas. We took a day trip to see the Cliffs of Moher and The Burren. We also enjoyed the city of Galway with all its tourist shops and restaurants. Martine's and The Pie Maker were our favorites. The week was definitely too short but we enjoyed every moment and every view.

Our family stayed there for 2 nights in Aug 2016. We brought our 20 year old son and 16 year old daughter. This town is your quintessential Irish town, including the church on the hill with Gaelic mass (Star of the Sea). The house is great, the weather was chilly (we used the fireplace) but it was sunny and we even saw a rainbow. There is a great outdoor patio with a picnic table overlooking the sea. We used this as a home base to visit the Aran Islands (we took a 7 minute flight) which was a great adventure. We also visited a little seaside town about 40 minutes away. But the best of all was having Mary Barry make us a full Irish breakfast one morning, and an Irish Stew dinner one evening. This was much better than going to restaurants (as they are about 30 min away). She was the highlight of our trip, and we felt like we knew her for years. If you want a 'real' Irish experience, this is a perfect spot. We definitely want to go back!

Wonderful Vacation in Beautiful Ireland

  • 5 of 5

We went on a 10 day vacation to see Ireland, spending half of our time sightseeing and half of our time relaxing in one location. After seeing every shade of green on our way to the cottage, our family had the most relaxing and fun time here. The views are amazing. The home is laid out very nicely and had plenty of room for our family of four, which includes two older children. We started with the board games from the shelves on the first night, that continued thru the week. We walked all around the property and saw so much beauty. We walked to Huston Beach and met friendly people along the way. We took a day trip to Westport and continued on and climbed Croagh Patrick Mountain. Mary Berry, Eamon's mom was such a delight and made us feel so welcome. Our kids loved her stories and suggestions on what to see and do. It was by far, our best vacation ever!

Lovely Views!

Lovely views from the house! Eamonn's mom Mary was a gem and it was wonderful to have her right next door. We did a day trip to the Aran Islands and loved every minute of it.

Beautiful home with awesome views

  • 5 of 5

My family of six (85 year old mother-in-law, 3 teenagers, my husband and myself) stayed here for 3 nights in August, 2014. The cottage was perfect having both bedrooms and baths on both floors. We visited the Cliffs of Moher on our way to the cottage from the airport. It's a quick drive to the ferry to the Aran Islands. Also visited Galway City. If we stayed one more night Eamonn had given us the name of someone to take us out on kayaks. Eamonn was available to answer any of my questions when planning our trip. The 2 gems of the cottage were Mary, Eamonn's mother who lives nearby and is available to answer any questions. She is so welcoming and bakes an awesome scone. The other gem is the view from the cottage - it's beautiful. I now have my picture of my kids for my Christmas card. Thanks Eamonn and Mary for making our stay so enjoyable.
