Be inspired by the Tiny House Movement!
The Little House on Howard Street is a historic 1923 house that has been completely rebuilt to take full advantage of its unique size. An original "tiny house" of 280 sq ft (plus a 100 sq ft covered deck), it was built as a stand-alone house and is now the perfect place to spend the week in Pasadena for a single traveler or couple.
The Little House on Howard Street offers an excellent example of efficiency and elegance. Stylishly furnished with modern and traditional craftsman furniture and art, it is the perfect alternative to a hotel. The neighborhood is quiet and pleasant for walking, and it is a five-minute drive to all that Pasadena has to offer – world-class museums, outstanding colleges and universities, top-rated restaurants and shopping, historic Old Town, hiking and other outdoor activities, and the Rose Bowl.
The house has a newly rebuilt kitchen with a two burner gas stove, small refrigerator, combination microwave/convection oven for roasting and baking, coffee maker, and toaster. We also offer WiFi, cable television, washer and dryer, air conditioning/heater, peaceful covered deck, and the privacy of staying in your own house.
Enjoy the exciting new restaurant scene in Pasadena and Altadena near the Howard House. AltaEats, Pizza of Venice, Lavender & Honey, Lincoln, The Eatery by Claude & Co., and El Patron are just a few of our favorites in the neighborhood. Not to mention all the great places in Old Town Pasadena and Downtown Los Angeles.
The Little House on Howard Street is less than 15 miles from Downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood, and Burbank, which can all be accessed by easy connections with the Metro Gold Line or by freeway, one of which is the newly restored historic Arroyo Parkway, the nation’s first freeway.

Owner Todd Hughes purchased this house in 2006. He spent his childhood a few blocks away and was always fascinated by this unique house. Shortly after he bought it, he got married and he and his wife, Liz, decided to completely renovate the house and create a lovely, cozy vacation rental. Todd and Liz are owner/operators of Hughes Estate Sales, an antique, art, and fine furnishings liquidation service. Showroom Estate Sales are held in Altadena on the first Fridays of every month. Let us know if you'll be staying that weekend and would like to shop!

Every comfort had been thought of; the kitchen and bathroom were lovely and met every need; the bed provides for a dreamy sleep and the little above out behind the kitchen is like a surprise gem, perfect for early morning coffee and for any other time of day as well.
Air conditioning kept us comfortable although we were there during a 100 degree heat wave.Location couldn't be better-quiet street just a ten minute walk from Lavender and Honey coffee, Lark bakery in one direction and Alta Eats in the other.
We had a really nice stay in Pasadena at the little house. The owners are wise to allow a maximum of two adults and a child up to 3 years old. The little house is really little. It is also very charming, nice and clean. It's interesting how the house is wedged in between other properties. The back porch is nice. However, after a few days, we started to get a little bit claustrophobic. There is a bit of a view of the mountains from the front door window, and there is light coming in from the windows in the house, but you're kind of in a cave. The only views to the sides or back are of walls, a driveway and vegetation. It is nice and soothing in a way, but staying for a week it began to close in on us more and more. A few improvements we thought could be made: a small sofa or love seat should fit in the front room and would allow side-by-side seating, instead of the current two single chairs. Also, the bathroom could use a ventilation fan. Even with the window wide open and the door cracked, the bathroom really steams up and then the vapor condenses on all your stuff. A powered vent fan would really help. On-street parking was not a problem-- the space directly in front of the house is big enough for the average sedan to park without blocking the driveway on either side. The space was always available for us in the evenings. There was a fair amount of traffic zooming by on Howard St right in front of the house, but you hardly hear it from the back rooms. Howard is by no means a main road but there is a lot of cut-through traffic. The neighborhood feels safe and we had some nice walks from the front door, especially heading north into Altadena. Unfortunately we couldn't find any parks/playgrounds nearby for the little one to play. We had a great stay and we recommend the house with the caveats above. Stays longer than a few days and you might want to consider somewhere roomier. After staying at the little house an average hotel room will seem huge.
this small house was in a quiet area of north Pasadena, able to walk into Pasadena. Although the house was small, it was clean and comfortable with comfortable bed, use-able kitchen area and nice little outdoor area in the back
You know we love your "Little House on Howard".
Impeccably clean, wonderful neighborhood, nice neighbors. It feels like home!
Thank you for making us feel so welcome!

ps Still waiting for some comfortable chairs!!!
Our stay was very pleasant in the very tiny little house. It was tight for two adults with two large suitcases but because we didn't spend much time there, it met our needs. The details and interior were well crafted, clean and charming. There is a brand new kitchen which is also well maintained. The bathroom could use a larger sink (water ends up on the floor with face washing), a shelf and more hooks, because places to put things is tight in there. We enjoyed the adorable little porch out back which is totally private except for the very noisy neighbor directly behind who yelled at her grandchildren most of the afternoons, which is not the hosts fault. We walked the neighborhood, which was very quiet, and returned to the cottage late in the evening feeling very safe. Our favorite place was a short walk to the Lavender and Honey, a wonderful coffee shop where we had breakfast every morning. The hosts were very nice and helpful when contacted. This place would be ideal for one person or two people with limited luggage.
The tiny house was very cozy to come home to, the area in the back added just the right amount of extra living space to make it comfortable for two people.
