About Diane Powers

Eric and I grew up in Lake Luzerne, NY...and even though we've since moved away, still consider it Home. More than ever, we appreciate the beauty and tranquility of the Adirondacks...and the incredible gift of having grown up there. We've enjoyed renting our pondhouse since 2006...and have many guests returning year after year!

Diane Powers purchased this house in 2006

Why Diane Powers chose Lake George Area

Our 'pondhouse' was built by Eric's grandfather. It is a magical place, full of fond memories of family gatherings centered around the peaceful natural surroundings.

What makes this house unique

The house is not a camp or cabin; it is a year round home, heated, and available for rent year-round. It is not 'closed up for the winter'...and therefore does not smell like a camp or cabin!

Guestbook comments from the owner

The property had everything we needed and more. It was great! The property had a private pond where we enjoyed using the paddleboat and the outdoor deck to bbq. The house had everything we needed and it was very clean. The owner was great and it was even better to have a relative live near the property if we needed something or had any questions about the property. The location of the property was close to lake george and other attractions. They had great restaurants nearby and had many activities and attractions that we could enjoy. it was a great and relaxing memorial day weekend.

Great outdoor space

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a great time at the house. We traveled with our two small children and it was a great getaway.

The pictures in the website accurately represent the house. The inside is quaint and functional.

The kitchen was better stocked than other vrbos we've done. They had even had tongs and other stuff for the grill. They had a pack and play and a booster seat (we didn't realize and brought our own). They had 2 kayaks, a rowboat, and a paddleboat. They had life vests including one for a child as small as 30 lbs. The outdoor space was beautiful. We didn't see or hear the other ppl on the was like we had it to ourselves. Unfortunately, you can't really hike around the pond. But, there were great short walks to take around town and a few small nature trails. Lake Luzerne and the Hudson river are five minute walks away. There is a small grocery store and pharmacy within walking. We loved our trip sitting in their back deck, boating in the pond, and enjoying the scenery.

Owner's Response: So glad your family enjoyed a relaxing stay at the Pondhouse! Our family has enjoyed the serene setting for generations, and take great pride in the peaceful, natural environment. True, You can't hike around the outside of the pond, because it is privately owned. You can however, paddle around in the nearly 10 acre pond, and we provide kayaks, a rowboat and paddle boat for use. The house is within a quarter mile walk of Lake Luzerne public beach, town basketball and tennis courts, the library, post office, bank, grocery store, pharmacy and UpRiver restaurant, which boasts lunch and dinner dining on a covered porch overlooking Rockwell Falls. We highly recommend...

We had a great family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Our two boys, my husband and I really enjoyed the pondhouse! We all had fun swimming, fishing, grilling, and having fires. When it rained there was plenty of things to do in the house, to keep the kids occupied. It was so close to everything, we would drive into Lake George almost everyday and found something new and fun to do. The house was very well stocked with everything we needed. We will definitely be back!

Everything You Want: Secluded yet accessible

  • 5 of 5

A great experience all around. Highlights include the fire pit, grill, and pond access and paddle boating. Away from some of the hustle of Lake George but on 15 minutes away from everything it has to offer! Our 16 month old had a blast in the woods and on the boat! We will be returning ourselves!

Peaceful retreat at the Adirondacks

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely week and Diane was very responsive. We appreciated her greeting us and showing us around the property. It was great to be able to sit outside and enjoy the large pond. There were several boats which were used by my family every day. We also walked up to the beach at Lake Luzerne many of the days. The water at the pond was sometimes not ideal for swimming because of floating stuff from the pond but the beach up the street is really great. We liked walking into the village to eat at the Upriver Cafe - a fabulous lunch & dinner spot. The village has a pharmacy and a small grocery store. We also went to a great weekend bazaar in the park by the beach and made several great finds.

The house is a typical lake house, older, a bit musty, but charming and great for our family. We are a family of four and were able to stay in the upstairs bedrooms. This left us a guest room downstairs with a queen and twin bed in it. This came in handy as we had guests on two different nights who utilized the room.

It was quite warm when we were there but the bedroom we stayed in had a wall air conditioner and Diane added another one in the living room during our stay. It cools down so much at night though, that window fans work fine too. The shower is good as well. (No tub)

We are runners and there is a great run from the house if you are interested. Just head out Lake Road and it goes along the river (ironically). It's quite pretty. As for things to do, we could not fit in all we wanted in a week. There are multiple white water raft and tubing companies within a couple miles. We went to a place called Tubby Tubes with a tube slide that you do on a hill. The kids really enjoyed it (age 9&12). Six Flags at Great Escape makes for a full day and we had a wonderful time on the roller coasters and at water park there. We also went to Adirondack Extreme Adeventure which is a zip line, ropes course kind of place. It is well worth the cost and unforgettable! It was scary but very fun. There are many great hikes. We missed out on climbing Hadley, but it is recommended.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay and the time went much too fast. Enjoy your visit to this sweet location.
