Classic Maine '4 square' cottage, fully renovated in friendly year round neighborhood. Easy walk (+/- 5 minutes) to library, grocery store, post office, restaurants, ferry and ice cream store. Yet just far enough away to escape the traffic and hubbub at the height of summer. Easy 10 minute walk to your choice of beaches. Also, the nice school playground is an easy walk on 3 little island paths.
The 2 upstairs bedrooms have queen beds and share one walk in closet. The downstairs den has a pull out couch that can accommodate one additional person. One bathroom is upstairs and our spiffy new one is just off the kitchen. The house has Wi fi, a flat screen tv and a DVD , a washer and dryer and a dishwasher.
Our large backyard comes with a hammock, and there's a nice deck with a gas grill for summer evenings.
We are retired educators (school counselor and math teacher) who lived in central Maine for over 30 years. When our kids grew up and settled in Massachusetts, we moved to Peaks - to be closer to them, to enjoy Portland and to be part of a wonderfully funky island community.
Betsey Remage-Healey purchased this house in 2010
Just the right size for us and an easy walk to the ferry so that we could live car free on the island. Great year round neighborhood.
Part of the village; easy walk to all island. As a year round residence, our house has personal touches such as artwork.
My wife and I stayed on this lovely home July 21-29, 2016. The home had everything we needed. Very functional kitchen, 2 great bathrooms. Although the tub upstairs was about 6-8" too high. 2 bedrooms upstairs with comfortable beds. The extra couch which converts to a bed downstairs was an added plus for a quest/grandchildren. Wonderful deck and backyard and so close to town yet, very quiet neighborhood. The owner was accessible if we had questions. My wife and I will definitely rent again.
Everything you could want and then some. Very clean and comfortable. Intend to return again and again
The place was perfect! The house was cozy and comfortable with a spacious cork-floor kitchen that was equipped with newer appliances and all the cooking equipment needed. A private backyard with a deck and grill, washing machine and dryer on-sight (but the clothesline was sufficient), two full baths and a great location.
Betsey is quick to respond with questions or concerns and has made a quirky, artsy and charming home.
The walk from the ferry terminal was literally 5 minutes! There's a year-round grocery store (Hannigan's), gift shop, ice cream parlor, art gallery, cafe, fresh lobster and restaurants also within the 5-minute walking distance.
Getting to a beach couldn't be easier either! We enjoyed biking all over the island where the roads are wide enough for everyone (bikes, pedestrians, golf carts and cars...even the horses from the island's camp!) and the speed limit is 20.
There are trails everywhere and plenty to do or not do, if you prefer. Will definately be coming back!
