It comprises a kitchen-living room (with a table, four chairs and a two-person sofa-bed), a comfortable bathroom (bidet, shower, toilet) and a bedroom with twin beds (which can be pushed together to form a double bed). The apartment is fitted with automatic central heating, air conditioning, a large refrigerator, washing machine and a fully-equipped, fitted oven, microwave, oven, kettle, coffeepot, ironing board, iron and hairdryer.

About Maria

I love Palermo's old town. I would spend hours strolling through Palermo's old town. I'd like to introduce Palermo to foreigners so that they too can enjoy it.

Maria purchased this apartment in 2010

Why Maria chose Castellammare

Don't miss the opportunity to stroll through Palermo's old town alleyways watching life go by, fascinated by the centuries of history than continue to play out before your eyes.

The apartment to rent is located in the heart of the Palermo's old town. The area is easily accessible and it's well served by public transport.

Palermo's old town is full of really good restaurants and cultural sites (monuments and museums).

Falcone-Borsellino Airport (Palermo) is less than 1 hour drive away.

The Mondello beach less than 15' drive away.

What makes this apartment unique

The apartment is found in a delightful and quiet old stonework building.

The apartment is within walking distance from the famous piazza San Francesco d'Assisi and other main points of interest of the old town. You can walk to museums, monuments and fantastic restaurants. Even the sea is really close. It's the best way to know the true nature of Palermo.

I can organize your transport from the airport, I can help you to rent a car or scooter and I will supply you with everything you need to enjoy your visit to the city. Just ask for information when booking.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A perfect spot to explore Palermo. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Palermo is a beautiful city with a lot of interesting sites.

We also discovered delicious Sicilian dishes and wines.

Apartment worked out nicely for us

  • 4 of 5

Very functional and comfortable apartment in the Kalsa neighborhood. Only criticism is the shower--as is often the case in retrofits-- it was a tiny and water gets on the floor, but was manageable. Neighborhood was perfect for us. Great restaurant, Buatta, open for lunch and dinner, was very nearby. Breakfast coffee and pastries, pizza, etc. also nearby. Easy walking distance to many interesting sites.

Very NOISY & Dark apt in convenient location

  • 1 of 5

Noisy and dark apartment in a convenient location. If you desire a good night's sleep we'd suggest you find another apartment. We don't know the situations and the location of where reviewers who found this an acceptable apartment actually stayed but we did not find this apartment acceptable. We are seasoned travellers and when we rented this apartment we had stayed in Italy/Sicily for 10 weeks during the last 13 months.

Initially much difficulty in communicating with Maria to schedule to rent apartment. After that was resolved there was no problem communicating and she did respond promptly to an inquiry in regard to a water issue with the shower. Maria has a notebook of information which is helpful. There are maps, and brochures in the apartment to assist in your visit to Palermo.

We are not light sleepers. We left the apartment days earlier than we had paid for as we had not been able to get a good night sleep since we arrived at the apartment. We are use to dealing with the normal noises in the city, but the neighborhood noise most nights was beyond acceptable. We were either required to listen to very loud music around midnight to the early morning hours, screaming matches, people crying at the top of their lungs, or any combination of these activities.

With the exception of the refrigerator/freezer not having been cleaned out the apartment was clean. Maria's husband met us to facilitate the rental agreement and provide us the keys. Since we were staying at the apartment for greater than a week we had previously asked for a second set of keys. We were told that a second set of keys was not available for us . We came to better understand what “automatic heat” means when Maria's husband told us the times that the heat would be on. We were told that based on the government regulation we would have heat between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. & 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. This was not the situation. The heat was on much more frequently than those hours, and as a result we were able to dry our laundry very quickly on the radiators. We needed to dry our laundry and towels in the house because you could not securely hang laundry outside.

The apartment schematic in the listing indicated 2 doors with balconies and a separate window in the bathroom. The two doors open to the west. The window in the bathroom can not be reached without a ladder. Maria's husband told us that security doors have been added to the balcony doors and it was obvious why. The neighboring apartme

Owner's Response: Right from the start, this tourist showed a very biased attitude. She wanted to discuss every single point of the rental contract (which she had agreed to weeks before on HomeAway). She recounted terrible experiences she’d had in Sicily, and wandered around the apartment in what I would call a neurotic manner. She repeatedly asked about the heater, saying that she didn’t want to be too hot (it is winter and the apartment is heated automatically, in line with established norms). She repeatedly checked on the numerous bags she had brought with her. In the first few days, she contacted me again and again, complaining about a problem with the shower. I suggested sending over the domestic worker to see what the issue was, but she refused. I offered to send over a plumber, but she refused again. After two or three days of useless hassle, she wrote and informed me that she found out what the problem was and didn’t need help. I was never informed about how much she complained about the noise. Only after the fact, I discovered that Deborah had left, but it was never explained to me why she had decided to leave two days ahead of time. I was very saddened to read what she wrote because I was never given the impression that the she was uncomfortable. All of my previous visitors (and there have been dozens of couples, and families with children) have been very happy here, and I want to point out that the apartment has double glazing which ensures total acoustic isolation from outside. As for brightness, I will add that it is characteristic of Arab-Norman historic town centers (like the one in Palermo) to have narrow alleys. Obviously, you can’t expect the same amount of light to enter from the alleys as you would through a window in a Miami villa. Someone who doesn’t understand and fails to appreciate different cultures should refrain from traveling. To have the brightness she wanted, Deborah should have elected to stay in the nineteenth century part of Palermo or in a villa by the sea. But I think she didn’t really understand Palermo, or Sicily in general. I regret to add that I found the apartment to be in a state of total disarray. The bedding was all piled up on the WC and was mostly damp and very dirty. They had laundry laid out everywhere, which could have caused damage to the parquet floors. The kitchen was very dirty and messy. The building’s doorman described Deborah as a very strange and nervous person. I absolutely do not recommend this couple.

A wonderful second stay!

The apartment couldn't be more comfortable and centrally located. As always, it was spotless, perfectly maintained and appointed. The unit is airy and pleasant, with a perfect internet connection. I could not recommend it more highly!

Appartamento delizioso in pieno centro, dotato di tutte le comodità!

  • 5 of 5
