Why The Owner chose High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains

We wanted a relaxing getaway home for the whole family. The great outdoor activities all year around was a huge plus, especially hiking to waterfalls and walks through Grandfather Mountain & zoo in the Summer; and winter skiing (at Sugar and Beech Mountains) in the winter.

What makes this house unique

The perfect views of Grandfather Mountain brings the spirit of the mountains into the home.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We wanted a simple getaway to the Boone and Blowing Rock area. This house was centrally located, close to the Blue Ridge Parkway, the major roads, and to Grandfather Mountain.

The house looked very much like the pictures. The master bedroom was really nice (a skylight in the walk-in closet!), especially with the separate reading/napping area. The TV was on the older side but we didn't watch much TV.

The other 3 bedrooms were on the 2nd level which the kids loved having to themselves, as well as the game room on the lowest level. The TV on the 2nd floor was also on the older side and there wasn't any wi-fi on the 2nd and 3rd levels. We brought boardgames and ended up played cards at night.

The kitchen was large and functional. It had everything we needed to make our meals -- plenty of silverware, dishes, glasses, and utensils.

We spent some time at the pool in the private community at the bottom of the hill. There were tennis and basketball courts but you have to bring your own sports equipment.

There is so much to see in the area we didn't have enough time to see it all, including digging for gems. We were too early for Octoberfest, the Wooly Worm festival and the changing of the leaves.

The best time was spent out on the deck looking out at the foliage, grilling a couple of steaks and relaxing with a couple glasses of wine.

Comfortable retreat!

  • 5 of 5

My experience at the Grandfather Mountain house was very positive even though my stay there was cut short due to my involvement in an auto accident shortly after arriving. The home is beautifully decorated and extremely clean, and it provided a comfortable retreat for me and my husband and two of our friends. The layout of the house provided separation and privacy for four adults, with very comfortable bedding, while the main level with its well equipped kitchen provided the perfect gathering area. We especially liked the deck where we enjoyed the beautiful view and the cool mountain air. The home's location is convenient to towns and attractions but is away from the crowds, which we liked. The road leading to the house, however, was a bit of a challenge for us, especially at night, because it is rather narrow and winding. But I guess that is to be expected in the mountains. Overall, I highly recommend this property.

A Hidden Gem

  • 5 of 5

This place is a hidden gem! It’s modern with vintage appliances that work better than the new ones we purchased. We were a little hesitant choosing a property that didn’t have many reviews, but we took a chance based on the photos and we were blown away as soon as we drove up to the property. We initially booked the home with four adults and and one baby. At the last minute, we invited another one of our sons friends and for sure thought we were going to be charged more. To our surprise, Mark did not charge us an additional fee for the extra adult. He has no hidden fees! As many of you are aware, other owners on VRBO charge weekly rates based on two adults and children up to a certain age are free.

I wish I was a writer, so I could give this home the description it truly deserves. The entire home is very clean. It’s very well stocked with utensils, cookware and vino glasses! If you are avid wine drinkers as we are, you will appreciate that. The home is beautifully decorated and the furniture is gorgeous. The game room was a favorite of the boys! The pool table, air hockey and foosball table are in perfect condition. I read a review about the internet not working 100%. Given the environment of being in the mountains, you surely cannot expect the internet to work 100%. We stayed in this home for 8 nights and there were only two times that we had issues with the internet. Mark was very easy to reach and called the cable company right away. He also gave my husband the house number so he could receive two important calls he was waiting for. I don’t know about you, but when I go on vacation, I unplug and spend the time with my family or much deserved alone time. With that being said, I was happy the boys couldn’t get on FB or any other social media. It forced them to have conversations with us and you cannot put a price on those memories.

If you are looking for a 5 star vacation, without paying 5 star price, this is the place you want to be. Mark and Marsha are very good people and truly want the best for you during your visit. If there’s anything you need or any questions you have, you can count on them. Mark was traveling and we were still able to reach him. Everyone we came into contact with was genuinely kind and you just felt it. We are definitely coming back to stay at Mark and Marsha’s property. I strongly suggest you do the same, as you will not regret it one bit!

This House Delivered!

  • 5 of 5

When we were searching for a place to stay for a month, it had to be clean, nicely furnished, have a good view plus accommodate a multi-generational family! A big list but this beautiful house delivered!! The owners were more than helpful in making sure everything went well during our vacation. There was a book of instructions/suggestions that answered all of our questions. We were particularly pleased that all linens and towels were furnished so we did not have to bother with packing or renting that. The house was tastefully decorated and spotless. The kitchen had everything we needed for a long stay….all we had to do was stock the refrigerator! The layout of the house was perfect for the varied ages of family and friends that visited us during the month. The younger ones enjoyed the lower levels with the pool table and lower level den with T.V. There is a game table off the kitchen that saw plenty of action and the deck was a favorite place to sip a glass of wine and watch the hummingbirds…..all while enjoying the amazing view of Grandfather Mountain! We can't wait to go back!!
