It need some work. Put some money back into it.

  • 3 of 5

My husband and I stayed 8 days. It’s a beautiful location right on the water and the island is very quiet and quaint. The home itself needs work . He could put money back into it . The bathroom smelled of urine. We needed a few items in the home like a toaster, shampoo, creamora, a second bath towel, the battery working in the golf cart and the key...the bikes need a little “ help”

And the shed could use some cleaning . The house next door had builders working and pounding all day which wasn’t the owners fault .. just a disappointment for such a quiet spot.

However the owner and his associate we’re very attentive and accommodating . They responded immediately to our requests and came through with our requests and needs. I’d recommend this little place just know it’s Neess some tlc

Cute cottage right on the beach.

  • 4 of 5

This is a great little getaway for a couple just wanting to slow down. Although cold this week, we had some great sun and beach walks while the rest of the US was buried in snow.

Exceeded our Expectations!

  • 5 of 5

We loved it here. The location is perfect and the amenities plentiful. The cottage was very comfortable for 2 people and very clean. The photos in the listing are accurate, but it's even better than it looks. We enjoyed exploring the island and admiring all the houses in our golf cart. Kayaking in Safety Harbour was easy. It's so much fun.The kitchen had everything we needed, but believe the listing, that the groceries on this island are practically non existent. Don't be afraid to bring lots of food to the cottage. The ferry folks load it on for you and take it off. Barnacles is good, but how many meals can you eat there? Be prepared to make your own breakfast and lunch. No restaurant is as nice as eating at the cottage. We ate most of our meals outside overlooking the water. The lounges and chairs had cushions so it was very comfortable for eating, reading, bird watching and napping. The host is on the island and is available to answer questions and help with anything you need.

A Piece of Paradise on North Captiva Island

  • 5 of 5

Caper Beach Cottage is one of the best vacation places we have ever rented. It is in a lovely location, so close to the water and so private. You have the choice of walking out the door forward to the sound, maybe 35 feet away, or walking in the opposite direction to Gary and Mary Ann's pier overlooking Safety Harbor. We spent a considerable amount of time there watching an osprey family.

Gary has 4 kayaks to choose from, and since we are avid paddlers we were happy. The kayaking was great, and having the good fortune to get up close and personal with a pod of bottle nose dolphins was an experience we will never forget.

We also took some lovely walks, swam, snorkeled and explored the island in the golf cart.

The cottage is lovely, and we were so impressed that Mary Ann outfitted it so completely and attractively. I don't how Gary read my husband's mind, but one of the first things I noticed was a bowl of Dove chocolates on the side table. They happen to be my husband's all-time favorites.

Gary is terrific. He is incredibly helpful; if you ask for an item you will get it quickly. He is also knowledgable about the area and takes you on an introductory tour of the island, Best of all, he is very friendly and thoughtful.

We LOVED this place and hope to come back.

Great vacation spot for peace and renewal!

  • 5 of 5

I went to Caper Cottage for a short 2 day getaway for a little self reflection and mediation. It was the perfect spot! Quiet and peaceful. Got up in the morning to watch the sunrise, saw dolphins just a few feet off shore. Watched the planes coming in and taking off from the small grassy runway. There are several beaches on the gulf side to visit, swim, and watch the sunset in the evening. The kitchen is well equipped and and the cottage is quite comfortable.

NO CARS IN THIS UNSPOILED PARADISE,

As you may know, Upper Captiva Island is accessed only by boat, or by small plane into a private airstrip. The island is approximately 4 miles long and a ½ mile wide at its widest. A little more than one-half of the island is owned by the state of Florida and is managed as a preserve. There are about 320 homes on the island and of those, approximately 120 are available for rent. Four small restaurants, a general stores and two beach boutiques comprise the only stores on the island. There are about 70 full-time residents. Island transportation is by electric golf carts which helps to keep the island a peaceful and relaxing get-a-way. Beachcombing, fishing, and walking the nature trails in the State Preserve are a special treat for those who enjoy the simple things in life.
