THINGS TO DO IN THE AREA:
For summertime fun, it’s just a short trip (less than ½ mile) down the hill to Fly-In Lake, complete with a small sandy beach and floating raft for swimming and playing (and don’t forget to watch the geese “fly in” at dusk!). Nearby is an 18-hole golf course as well as the Blue Lake Springs Recreation Center where your family is welcome to use our Owner’s Pass to enjoy the swimming pool, tennis courts, basketball, ping pong, bocce courts, volleyball and outdoor movies shown during the warm summer nights. With our pass, the Rec Center is $8/person or $25/family per day and $45/person or $125/family per week.
In the winter months, Bear Valley ski resort, just a 25-minute drive to the east, is known as a family-friendly, affordable resort, which offers excellent downhill and cross-country skiing for all skill levels, as well as other popular winter activities such as are sledding, snowshoeing, snowboarding and snowmobiling. (And don't forget mountain biking and hiking in the summer!)
Not to be missed in any season is Big Trees State Park where you can experience the Giant Sequoia Redwoods standing 150 feet tall and 30 feet across. With great nature and hiking trails perfect for all ages, this park is less than a 10-minute drive away and a great opportunity to see some of California’s true gems.
Fishing, boating and other water activities abound in one of the many lakes, streams and rivers including the Stanislaus River, Alpine Lake (our favorite!), Mokelumne River, Bear Creek, Rattlesnake Creek, New Melones Lake, Mosquito Lake, Union & Utica Reservoirs, New Spicer Reservoir and many others.
And don’t forget a visit to the nearby Gold Rush towns of Murphys (quaint downtown with shops & restaurants) and Colombia (preserved 1850’s main street, carriage rides, old-time photos, panning for gold) as well as many award-winning wineries and tasting rooms, three golf courses, or three of the area’s breathtaking caverns (California, Mercer and Moaning) which are open for exploring and tours.
Phone numbers and website links to many of the above attractions are on our website at ArnoldVacation(dot)com - Things To Do In The Area page.

Tim, originally from Santa Rosa and making trips to Arnold since he was a boy, purchased the cabin in 1999 and it quickly became the location for family gatherings and lots of fun all year round. Terri joined the family in 2004 and instantly fell in love with the area as well. Unfortunately we now live in southern California and are unable to get to our “home away from home” as often as we’d like… So we’ve opened it up for friends and family to enjoy. And now we invite our “new friends” from VRBO - you are welcome anytime!

Fresh air, tall redwoods, hiking, skiing, rivers and lakes, caverns... and great wine tasting in quaint Gold Rush towns. Need we say more!
Relaxing outdoors on the large deck with trees all around, or inside on the comfy couches with a big fire. Add some hot chocolate or glass of wine... Heaven!
Overall we had a comfortable stay. Very accommodating for the pets. Everything we needed for a relaxing weekend and the homeowners were very prompt and easy to connect with. Would stay again if going back to Arnold.
We stayed at the cabin for three nights in January. The communication with the owner was easy and enjoyable, the instructions on finding the cabin were clear. We were afraid it would be cold inside, as we travelled with four toddlers, but the cabin was warm and very comfortable. We enjoyed skiing at Bear Valley and visited Big Trees. We would be glad to come back and recommend this cabin to all nature lovers!
Upon arriving, we found the cabin to be clean and just as it was described. There was plenty of games for the kids and enough space for everyone to move around and sleep comfortably. It snowed while we were there so we had lots of fun just sticking around the cabin and playing in the snow. Terri was very helpful both prior to and during our stay, and was quick to answer all questions and address all concerns. We usually stay in different cabins depending on what we want to do in what area and during what time of year, but this would be one we'd definitely come back to! Great stay, great price, great fun!!
I highly suggest staying here! The owners were awesome and very accommodating!
There were some memories made at this cabin that I will hold close to my heart for the rest of my life. I had recently rescued a severely neglected dog I saw posted for free on Craigslist. She is only 7 pounds and she was terrified of everything, especially everything outside. I saw her smile from ear to ear the whole time and she was having the time of her life. Having that experience with little Lacy let me know that the trauma she suffered in her past will be left in the past. She even got all excited when a family of deer walked by when she was sitting on the deck. I think she wanted to play with them. And I also learned that you can never be too old to play silly board games for kids. Yes two adult women were wearing blue headbands and trying to guess what object was on the card you put in your own headband. I have not laughed that hard in forever. We will be coming back as soon as we can and as often as we can.
This was our first trip to Arnold, we were there for a wedding and decided to make a weekend out of it. The cabin is comfy and well appointed. We grilled the first night we arrived and sat out on the porch for a few hours. Way more space than 2 people and a Labrador needed; there are so many sleeping locations. The neighborhood is nice, we walked both mornings with the dog and explored a bit. Don't know if the town of Arnold is dog-friendly, but Terri and Tim were - and that was all that mattered. Also explored Calaveras Big Trees - very fun and only minutes away. The cabin had everything we needed for a weekend and we completely enjoyed ourselves.
Nearby: Fly-In Lake (small lake with sandy beach, swimming, fishing); Community Recreation Center - $8/person or $25/family with owner's pass (pool, tennis, basketball, bocce ball, volleyball, ping pong, outdoor movies); Sequoia Woods 18-hole golf course (open 10 months/year)
