This charming cabin is located in Valley of the Sun which is just 5 minutes from Fairplay and 25 minutes from Breckenridge in Park County. The cabin has 2 bedrooms, one bath, a family room, a dining room and a loft. It is on a wooded property overlooking the snowy mountain ranges to the West and North. The cozy living area with a wood-burning stove is open to the dining area and kitchen. The kitchen has gorgeous mountain views and lots of light. There is a large bedroom upstairs with lots of room. The separate loft has a foosball table and cozy seating. The master bedroom has a queen bed and a private balcony with amazing views. The owners have provided lots of games for entertainment or you can relax by the cozy wood stove after a day of skiing.

The home is in the center of many of the main recreation areas in Colorado. Whether you love skiing in the winter or hiking in the summer, you will be within a short drive of many great areas. Fairplay and Alma are the activity center of the Colorado Rocky Mountains and is often referred to as the Base Camp for all activities some of which include hiking, mountain climbing, horseback riding, ice climbing, fishing, hunting, rafting, 4-wheeling, ATVing, mine exploring, canoeing, kayaking, and much much more.

If you can think of an outdoor activity, you will probably find it within 10-20 minutes of the cabin. It is a great area to call your 'Base Camp'. This is a beautiful home to spend any season of the year.

You can find all of these activities within minutes of the home:

* FISHING ... Gold Medal/Blue Ribbon Fishing. 5 area lakes and public river a short drive away

* In Subdivision... Access to National Forest/Montgomery Reservoir, Lincoln Falls, Ice Climbing, and some of the best snow-shoeing and 4-wheeling in Colorado

* Breckenridge ... ski, snow-board, snowmobile, fish, boat, golf - 25 min. NW

* Buena Vista ... Hot Springs, fishing, raft the Arkansas River - 35 min. SW

* Salida ... fishing, hiking, jeep trails , rafting - 45 min SW

* Como Historic Railroad District - 20 min. NW

* Fairplay Historic Mining Town - 5 min. NW

* Denver ... shopping, theaters, sports, amusements parks -90 min NE

* Cripple Creek ... gold mining, gambling - 50 min.

* Canon City ... home of the Royal Gorge - 60 min SE

* Manitou Springs ... Cave of the Winds, Pikes Peak - 60 min. SE

You will enjoy the flexibility of being able to explore all of the exciting areas in the heart of the Rockies by being in the center of all the activities. You will be able to enjoy a luxurious home but also the seclusion and beauty that only a true mountain setting can offer.

The access is easy and 4-wheel drive/AWD is not a necessity during the summer months but is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED DURING THE WINTER MONTHS. WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR VEHICLES NOT BEING ABLE TO REACH THE CABIN DUE TO SNOW. THE ROADS ARE COUNTY MAINTAINED AND NOT OUR RESPONSIBILITY. OUR DRIVEWAY IS PLOWED ANYTIME THERE IS 4 INCHES OR MORE OF SNOW DURING THE WINTER MONTHS. IF YOUR VEHICLE IS NOT CAPABLE, WE ARE NOT ABLE TO ASSIST. THE CABIN IS LOCATED AT APPROXIMATELY 11,000 FT ABOVE SEA LEVEL.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Very cute and comfortable cabin, a perfect setting with great views. So much appreciated the fenced backyard so our dog could experience the freedom! The first night/morning about 4:30a we woke up to moose bugling! We looked outside the south windows and saw a huge mama moose and youth/baby next to the wood shed so close to the side/back deck! What a thrill! The next morning around 7a we saw the male moose with a huge rack! Loved your place! Thanks!

Quiet, cozy cabin with mountain view.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this cabin near FairPlay, CO, which is only a 10 minute drive away with a grocery store, 2 gas stations, Family Dollar store for necessities & several gift shops & restaurants plus the South Park Museum. I enjoyed visiting with many of the friendly locals in Fairplay. We took our Honda Pioneer side-by-side ATV & rode several trails near FairPlay & Buena Vista. For the two of us the cabin had plenty of space, but the pictures on the website make it appear to be a lot larger than it is. There's another bedroom upstairs but just the one bathroom downstairs & a small living room with a sofa & rocking chair for seating, so if u like your space, I'd advise no more than 4 adults sharing the cabin. Note to owner - the coffee maker needs to be replaced, as I had to push the start button several times whenever I made coffee for it to keep brewing. Also, although normal household sounds don't usually bother me at night, the refrigerator is exceptionally loud but it did keep our food nice & cold. More ice cube trays would be a great addition since there is no ice maker. The bed downstairs was comfortable enough but even though my husband & I are both tall, we had to actually climb up onto the mattress each time we got out of it due to it being so high. The only towel bar in the bathroom is gone with just the one bracket sticking out of the wall so no place but the shower curtain rod to hang damp towels on. It would have been nice to have a wall cabinet or shelf in the bathroom for our personal items as there was no room on the small vanity. There were only 3 large towels & 3 wash cloths available for our use so I was glad I brought 2 large towels from home. We were really looking forward to seeing some moose or deer in the big field behind the cabin but the only wildlife we saw were a couple chipmunks who ventured up on the deck. To your housekeeper, the windows looking out onto the front porch in the dining & living rooms really need cleaning. All in all, it was a great place to stay, but just wanted to make others aware of the few issues we had so that they can plan their trip accordingly. One last thing - Do NOT shut the front door behind u if your phone, lock access code & owners phone number are all inside the cabin because it locks automatically. Thank goodness I actually remembered the number! LOL From then on we kept the code on a piece of paper in our vehicle. Thanks for sharing your beautiful part of Colorado with us!

Owner's Response: Hi Debbie, Thanks for the review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay! We wanted to address a few of the items that were brought up for future guests. We were at the cabin this weekend to re-stock supplies and take care of any items that have come up since the beginning of the busy summer season. We used the coffee maker and had no issues brewing coffee with the current coffee maker. We will replace this if it becomes a recurring issue. The towel rack we were made aware of and we replaced it with hooks with room for 6 towels to hang. A previous renter knocked the towel rack off, and with the busy summer season, we had to wait for an open day to get the rack fixed, but it has been fixed since your stay. For each stay, we let our cleaning crew know the size of the group staying so they ensure enough linens are available. With a group of two people, they left 3 sets of towels and wash cloths. With the busy and quick turnaround cleaning times for the summer season, they take extra laundry back to their facility to ensure these quick turns can happen. When groups are larger, there are more towels/linens left to accommodate the group size. There is also a washer and dryer (and we provide detergent and dryer sheets) for guest use if towels and linens need to be washed during their stay. We would like to advise larger groups viewing our listing to read previous reviews from larger groups as well as this is subjective to each group staying. We have had groups of 6 stay regularly and they have been comfortable. The cabin pictures are accurate depictions of the cabin (and show exactly what you described for seating) and is described accurately as a 1200sq ft 2bd/1ba cabin with a futon in the loft and pull out couch in living room. Thanks for staying and we appreciate your feedback! Enjoy the rest of your summer!

We loved this property and were so happy with our choice.

We really enjoyed our stay at this peaceful secluded location. We enjoyed the cabin as our home base to relax after touring the area. Such a homey, cozy cabin. It is secluded, but in a central location. We visited Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods. We went to Vail and Buena Vista as well as Breckenridge numerous times. The "commutes" bring breath taking views which ever direction you travel. We enjoyed hiking in the area and spotted some exciting wildlife. We fished in nearby creeks and caught beautiful native trout. I would recommend this cabin if you want to get away from the busy, hustle and bustle of traffic and towns. We had 6 adults sleeping comfortably. The only thing we wished for was an additional bathroom, but we made it work. We would love to come back sometime. -Dwight Root

Private with breathtaking views

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were looking for an area of Colorado to stay that was private and secluded with good views. This cabin totally hit every mark that we were looking for. The owners were available when we needed them, but they didn't bug us throughout our stay. We highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a refreshing getaway.
