Description

South Egremont Cottage Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, sleeps 6.

Autumn may be the best time to spend time on a farm with spectacular views and lovely amenities. Mayflower Cottage is the prettiest place to experience the fall foliage in the Berkshires. You will have long views of the morning sunrise out of the kitchen windows to the east and warm afternoon sun sets to the west, where you'll see Jug End Mountain.

The Cottage is newly renovated and furnished. It has a fantastic kitchen and large farm table to accommodate the 'farm-to-table' experience. Surrounded by acres of protected pasture and hay fields with a southeast facing deck and screened porch.

The Cottage is on the Appalachian Trail 1 mile from the Jug End Road trailhead.

It is walking distance (1 mile) from South Egremont center where there is a country store, library, school house, post office, bank and fine restaurant.

South Egremont has a nine hole golf course at the Egremont Country Club which is open to the public. It is 2 miles from the cottage. Mayflower Farm has a tennis court available on the property.

About Peter and Ellen Maggio

Mayflower Farm has been in our family since 1973. Peter and Ellen have raised three daughters here in Berkshire County and have also been raising sheep since 1997. In 2010 the farm property across the road was available and the family purchased it. Adding the cottage and the barns to the sheep enterprise has been valuable. The entire farm consists of approximately 30 acres of owned and leased land, much of it conserved.

Peter and Ellen Maggio purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Peter and Ellen Maggio chose Berkshires

The guests at Mayflower Farm all agree that the views from the house are stunning!

And, it's fun to watch the sheep.

What makes this cottage unique

South Egremont is a beautiful Berkshire town. It is an easy commute from both NYC and Boston and it is close to Great Barrington and all of the wonderful visitor attractions that the Berkshires have to offer.

Heaven on earth

Clean, cozy ,comfortable place with an awesome kitchen and spacious and relaxing living areas. Sitting on the patio on a cool September day watching the sheep graze as the sun rises and the fog burns off is perhaps the best therapy money can buy. Ellen and Peter are gracious hosts and have done a spectacular job with this cottage. I wish I could live here. We will certainly return. I already miss the sheep!

Wonderful relaxing and beautifully equipped house

  • 5 of 5

We had a very relaxing and enjoyable stay ay the Mayflower Cottage. The house is well set up for a rental. Everything is tastefully done and everything works! The owners were very reliable. Sitting on the deck and watching the sheep go out, graze in the fields and come back was relaxing. The location is great for going to Tanglewood, Great Barrington and other places. Having the AT right out the door was handy for early morning walks on the trail. We would recommend this rental without any reservations at all.

The cottage is amazing!! simply the best!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the cottage has been wonderful from the moment we walked in. It is a great location and kept extremely clean. We can not say enough about the owners Peter and Ellen who are truely kind and welcoming. My son loves to see sheep in the morning. He was even lucky enough to see the birth of a baby lamb. Peter is always patient and kind to answer all our questions about the sheep. We love watching the morning sunrise from our back porch. Our family has gone hiking in the back yard on the Appalachian Trail, skiing at nearby mountains and just walked around the beautiful town of Great Barrington. We love staying at the cottage and are looking forward to returning.

A Cottage in the Country

  • 5 of 5

The week my husband and I just spent at the Mayflower Farm Cottage, was a wonderful experience. The cottage, recently renovated is spacious and full of comfort. So much well thought out planning went into the project. The spacious, well planned kitchen is generously equipped for cooking or watching someone cook for you! The surrounding views from every room are breathtaking and serene, from early morning sun, to beautiful evening shadows that outline the gorgeous rolling hills.

One of many unique experiences here is to enjoy the daily routine of the sheep who live here; watching them travel out from their barn in the morning,, fan out in their pastures; find their own favorite grazing spots, and hear them vocalize their contentment.

A lucky happenstance was the birth of a baby lamb during our stay. Peter saw us out on the deck and invited us into the nearby barn to meet the mother, and hold the one day old baby!

Peter and Ellen are gracious hosts, and great sources of where to find wonderful restaurants, interestng little towns close by, and the many Farmers' Markets in this area.

We especially enjoyed dinner at The Old Mill, just minutes away from the cottage, and a candlelit dinner on the patio at The Old Inn On The Green in nearby New Marlborough.

Egremont is pristine and peaceful, and so accessible to nearby cultural treasures; Tanglewood and Jacob's Pillow are just two of the treats we enjoyed while staying in this wonderful place.

We noticed some day-hikers, identifiably dressed in gear to walk through parts of the Appalachian Trail. This long and well known Trail, passes right by the cottage. Entrances to the Trail can be seen in many abutting towns.

We anticipate returning to this special place. We feel very fortunate to have found this unique little paradise.

Kudos to Peter and Ellen, for sharing this place.
