Privately sited on 5 wooded acres with 600’ of granite shoreline, nestled amidst mature spruce and pine trees overlooking a remote peninsula with captivating views of ocean, islands and tides. This special home invites you, your family and friends to share a one-of-a-kind vacation amidst the wilderness beauty of Maine.
Savor coffee on the deck as the mist burns off the water in the warmth of the sun’s rays. Have a seat at the elevated upper granite ledge sitting area with sweeping views of adjacent islands and miles of granite shoreline. Enjoy the warmth of the afternoon sun on the oceanside deck as you settle in for another dazzling sunset. Or, have a seat at the lower granite ledge sitting area and listen to the ocean lapping at your feet. With no other homes in sight -- only pristine natural beauty as far as the eye can see, you’ll quickly understand why the Seaside Sanctuary is your special place to appreciate nature’s splendor.
Built in an era before setbacks from the shore were increased, the close proximity to the water's edge accentuates a feeling of openness and communication with the beauty and solitude of rural coastal Maine. Inside, an open floor plan, vaulted ceilings, and walls of oversized windows and sliding glass doors capture stunning views and natural light. Relax and enjoy good company and conversation on the spacious oceanside deck. Observe vibrant sunsets and abundant Maine wildlife (seals, deer, eagles and a variety of bird species.)
Accommodating up to 6 comfortably, the Seaside Sanctuary features a vaulted master suite with private bath and a sitting area with sliding glass doors for a commanding view of ocean and islands. Two additional bedrooms, a second full bath, and a fully stocked kitchen make for a comfortable stay. A grand fieldstone fireplace and living room window seat with expansive views enhance the quaint charm of this unique home.
If you're in the mood for adventure, you can launch kayaks directly from the property with easy access to the water. Included for your use and enjoyment are 3 single person kayaks, 1 ocean kayak and a 2-person canoe. Kayak for miles about the islands rich with Maine wildlife. Paddle amidst pods of curious seals, explore sheltered coves, and observe ancient estuaries. Rent mountain bikes and explore the dirt roads about the coastline of Lubec or Campobello Island, or day hike the Bold Coast Conservation Trail 10 miles away in Cutler.
This lovely seaside retreat is a true sanctuary for the soul and an outdoor haven for those who crave adventure or desire quiet, private solitude. Come enjoy this Down East Maine treasure today and prepare to fall in love. In fact, so many of our guests do, they return year after year.
We made our first trip to Lubec in June 2013 and knew instantly that this was EXACTLY where we wanted to be. The natural, unspoiled beauty of the area and the gentle, simplicity of life here are a welcome respite from the everyday world. It's a place to unplug, recharge your batteries, and reconnect with family and friends while creating memories that will last a lifetime.

I have always loved nature and the outdoors and the minute we saw this property I knew it was what we had been searching for. The proximity to the water and views from within the home, on the deck, or at various spots around the property foster a strong sense of connection with nature. The enormous tides in the Bay of Funday create an ever-changing landscape that is captivating to watch evolve.
Total privacy and seclusion in a wooded setting
Peace and tranquility - no road or other civilization noise, only the wind in the trees and birdsong
Expansive shorefront with many unique nooks and vantage points to enjoy the breathtaking views
Access to the water from the property to launch kayaks/canoe (provided)
We traveled to Lubec and stayed for two weeks in this beautiful house in its private setting on the edge of the world. The home is perfectly situated away from other people and your closest friends will quickly become the seals that occupy the cove (they love to follow you around when you're in the kayak). The beauty of the area is appreciated from the large, spacious rooms and picture windows inside the house. Outside, rolling trails take you from the back deck to several areas on the property perfect for relaxing by the sea and taking in the sunrise or sunset. Back inside the house, there is plenty of space to read a book, take a nap, or cook some freshly-caught lobster. The house is generously stocked with everything from extra bedding and towels to cooking supplies to books and movies for rainy evenings. OMG-- we will be back, for sure!!
Words can hardly describe our stay. A comfortable home, lovely views of the bay, peaceful. We stayed from 9/19-9/29 and wished we could have stayed much longer HERE for our first visit to Maine. We hope to be able to come back sometimes in the future if the home is still being offered. And last but not least the owners were wonderful. Thank You.
Beautiful property! Fully stocked, beautifully decorated, very comfortable. Loved the many cozy throws, great DVD collection, kayaking and incredible views.
So quiet and peaceful! Would definitely visit again!
The Seaside Sanctuary in Lubec was a wonderful place to truly unwind. The house & property are very well stocked with everything we needed: kitchen gadgets, movies, music, local travel brochures, linens, kayaks and loads of outdoor seating areas (we particularly liked the benches on the corner of the property near the boats). The tidal change is an amazing thing to behold and we made use of the kayaks during every reasonably-timed high tide (note: bring water socks or sandals to use if you kayak...you will be getting your feet wet!) Watching for wildlife became the focus of most of our days and we were particularly thrilled to spot the seal and otter who paddled around in front of the house. And did I mention the blueberry bushes?! We picked wild blueberries every morning to have with our oatmeal. The only time we spent off-property was a day trip to Campobello Island to see the Roosevelt summer "cottage"-- which was nice but the Seaside Sanctuary has a lot more going for it!
It was exciting to be driving thru rural countryside and then thick beautiful pine forest to reach Seaside Sanctuary. This is a beautiful home perched on the rocky shore. The bay was very quiet and mostly calm thru our entire stay. There is a tide chart which is so helpful in planning your day around kayaking adventures. We kayaked many times and sat on the spacious deck watching eagles fly back and forth, an occasional curious seal, and a very inquisitive red squirrel. There are lots of birds and is a wonderful setting for a birder such as myself. It's wonderful that there are kayaks and a canoe for use with your stay. We felt we were the only ones around for miles. The nights are dark and the sky is thick with stars. We were able to see the Milky Way. The beds are comfy. The master bedroom is spectacular with all the windows with views of the trees and the water. This room has it's own deck as well. Lubec is a quaint town with good food and stores. Monica's sells awesome chocolate as well as reasonably priced jewelry from Peru and other goodies. I did serious shopping there! Eastport should be visited as well. There are plenty of options to purchase fresh fish/lobster to cook yourself or to go out and eat. Quoddy Head Light and the bog trail is spectacular. There are lots of hikes one can do. The house has a basket full of brochures and information on the area. We would surely return to this home!!!

Another wonderful visit at a beautiful home. We felt as if we were arriving home rather than at a rental property. The owner had made many upgrades since our last visit and is continually upgrading the house and property. All the comforts of home are available and Lubec has shops that can accommodate what ever you forgot to bring from home. The area is slow paced and quiet, but you will find plenty to do and many places to explore. The house is very well equipped, spotlessly clean, and exceptionally comfortable. We saw beautiful birds, wildlife, and even a mother deer and fawn right out the window. It is very clear that the owner care very much about the house and wants you to feel like a guest and not a tenant. I think anyone would be hard pressed to find a better property to rent in the area. Thank you so much for sharing your "sanctuary" with me and my family. We will be back!
