Gone Shelling provides a tranquil natural sanctuary. Located on the fabulous beach at Winding Bay on the Atlantic side of Eleuthera, the house offers stunning ocean views. This gorgeous private home offers built in shade via a beachside cabana with thatched roof. For those wishing a little more activity, the house includes two ocean kayaks and a full sized canoe to cruise the bay.
In an effort to enhance the experience all modern conveniences are supplied. Privacy comes at no additional expense as this property boasts over two acres of land and 200’ of private beach frontage. Gone Shelling is ideal for a couple, small family, or couples traveling together. It is an excellent choice for those wishing peace and quiet who also crave outdoor activities such as snorkeling, bonefishing, and boating.
The house includes expansive ocean views through large windows and sliders in every room.
I also rent a 1 bedroom home in Ten Bay, Eleuthera, Bahamas on the Caribbean side of the island. If you prefer a smaller oceanfront home in a more central location then please view my other listing at https://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p353956.
I rent this property exclusively on behalf of the owners. I, myself, am an owner of a home on Eleuthera and run a travel company. I'm also the co-author of the definitive guide to ALL of Eleuthera's 135 beaches - The Beach Book, Eleuthera, Bahamas edition (published 2014).
Kayaks, canoe, gardenside patio, extensive Caribbean library, meals & babysitting optional.
As soon as you enter this home the spacious sun infused rooms welcome you.
With it's charming beach decor replete with local fish and signature shells, you immediately feel like a invited guest.
The soothing ocean is your front view with a balcony to soak in the soft sweet sea breezes, a great place to chill and feel peaceful. When the turquoise and green waters beckon you there are kayaks just a few steps outside. The reef creates a calm entry way to a beautiful inlet where you can see lion fish abound, and if your lucky even a Baraccuda!
The beach extends for quite a ways and there are plenty of nooks and places to explore on foot. The beach has the feel of a private beach where you may not encounter another person the entire stretch.
Be sure to explore the amazing surrounding area, where you can eat local authentic Caribbean foods and meet the friendly locals. This is a magical place where you will daydream and never want to leave.
This was our second Spring Break trip to Eleuthera and we wanted to have our base more to the South then our Governor's Harbour stay of last year so we settled on Winding Bay in the Tarpum Bay / Rock Sound area and Gone Shelling. It turned out to be the perfect place to unwind and enjoy the stunning beauty of this part of Eleuthera. The house was a crucial component to our enjoyment. Before we arrived all the logistics were handled quickly and thoroughly by the owners and they answered many questions we had with patience and helpfulness. We provisioned the house from The Market in Rock Sound and Alice the caretaker was kind enough to handle it’s arrival so when we got there we could start our vacation immediately. The house itself sits slightly above the water so the views from all the windows capture the ever changing shades of blue as the light changes. It's one of those houses where everything seems to be exactly where it should be and was designed for enjoying the view, or cooking or star gazing. All in quiet privacy. The light streamed in from dawn until the afternoon and we always had a good cross breeze. The breezeway was wonderful for having meals. The kayaks provided were really nice ones (Necky's) great for exploring through the cut to Half Sound or going around the small cay to the South. Since we travel in Spring it can be very windy at times but the water at Winding Bay is protected so there was never a time where we couldn't get in / on the water.
We would return to Gone Shelling with no hesitations because it's a perfect set up. Right on a beautiful sheltered bay. Stunning view of that bay. Everything you need in and outside the house. Great owners and local assistance. Very close to one of the best markets on the island and some of the most beautiful beaches you've ever seen. What more could ask for?
My wife and I are naturalists. We have traveled throughout the world for research as well as vacation. Many places are ruined by over crowding and pollution-- Gone shelling is a unspoiled natural beauty.
Eleuthera is freedom and Gone shelling was the perfect get away. My wife would point out cruise ships in the dead of night passing by. The star gazing was incredible.
We enjoy an active lifestyle so the kayaks and canoe was great to explore other beaches, the cut and half sound.
Everyday I would walk the beach seeing box fish and sting rays. Amazing pin cushion star fish community right in front of the house!
My wife loved being able to run on the beach and the sand is pink/cream color. You can walk to a cay and explore many beaches and rock formations.
Snorkeling through the cut and going out past the protected bay we snorkeled at each end at large reefs north and south of the property. The reefs are in good shape and have not been destroyed like other tourist traps. We saw a pair of eagle rays.
Returning after our adventures we would wash our gear at the foot bath and I loved taking a shower outside at night or during the day. (We felt like we had the entire beach to ourselves).
The home was clean and very comfortable. I got the best sleep. The house is well ventilated and we were able to have a nice cross breeze. The ceiling fans were a plus for an afternoon siesta. There is ac in both bedrooms but we never used them. To be awoken by amazing sunrises every morning right from our bed.
When the wind would die down we would eat on the screened in porch.
My wife thought the house was tastefully decorated. I appreciated all the local art through out the house.
We never used the satellite tv and the owners had offered to remove it if we wanted. We don't have kids so we said to just leave it but my wife was happy that his distraction could be eliminated. Your in paradise...way to much to see and explore.
The bay is protected by reefs so there is flats and shallows for fishing and those who aren't great swimmers or have little ones.
If you are looking for a tourist trap destination spoiled by pollution and tourists Eleuthera wouldn't be your thing. If you want an adventure in nature and tropical delights I would highly recommend gone shelling as your home base for an amazing vacation.
I spent two weeks at this lovely home on the beach. It is decorated beautifully. there's lots of room. Many amenities. the beach is gorgeous and no crowds I loved it I enjoyed walking the beach and searching for shells. The owners/caretakers are fabulous and attentive to all my needs. There are many sites to see and explore right from the home. Or you can relax and soak up the sunshine.
We didn't want to leave. Falling asleep to the sound of the ocean was magical. Star gazing--- somehow the stars seem closer than at home. Watching the sunrise every morning from the balcony or from the master suite was amazing. The home was well equipped, clean and comfortable. The house has amazing ocean views, and the beach actually has soft pink sands. We found shells right at the low tide mark our first morning. The cabana was a wonderful retreat from the sun. We kayaked most days and took long walks...you can walk bay after bay. The ocean colors changed thought out the day and it was a study in color. The house is decorated with island shells, and a nature/tropical theme. A giant mirror in the living room means everyone has a view of the ocean. Alice the house keeper came mid week to clean and was very helpful in wanted to ensure we were happy. The attached screen porch was our favorite place to eat--- overlooking the gardens and the ocean. Many days we would not see anyone else on the bay. Bone fishing in the flats. Exploring the cut to half sound. We rented a car but really spent most of our time exploring the area on foot or kayak. Often we would retire to the den at night to go through the nature guides to see what we had seen or found. It was fun to learn the names of shells, fish, birds etc. We have rented this home before and are eager to see the updates in between visits. Updated kitchen this trip! Unlike some homes, this one is taken care of and if there is an issue Alice is very helpful. On a previous trip the washer broke. We called Alice and two days later a new washing machine was installed. The hide a way bed is not comfortable. (Have yet to find one that is...). So large groups would not work at this house. It was perfect for a couple or up to 5 quests. We can't wait to go back.
