Villa Agapui in Naxos (MHTE 1174K10000943601)

Villa Agapui in Naxos is a holiday house of 140m2 on a slightly sloping hill, overlooking a beautiful bay in the Aegean Sea and the neighboring island of Paros, while surrounded by open fields. The sea view from all indoor and outdoor spaces is unobstructed and breathtaking.

A road goes up the hill from the beach and ends at the villa's gate; as a result, there are no cars passing by, no noises from the road or from the neighboring villas to disturb the magical experience.

The approach to the villa by car is through the villa's gate all the way to the main entrance level (located on the upper level), where the living spaces are accommodated; these include the sitting and dining room, open plan kitchen and WC. The kitchen is modern and fully equipped. The main living space opens up to a shaded outdoor sitting and dining area; it is enclosed by stone walls and provides stunning views of the sea.

On the lower level, there are three bedrooms – two of them in the main building and an additional one located in a separate guesthouse. Each bedroom has its own bathroom complete with a shower.

A 32 sq.m. swimming pool surrounded by a garden and outdoor seating area, is located a few steps away, just below the bedroom level.

On the last lower level, beneath the one of the pool, there is a vegetable garden and fruit trees at the disposal of the guests.

The villa, designed by the architect-owner for use as her holiday get away, has an air of openness and lightness, where one can relax far away from the stresses of urban life. It is built on a plot of 1800m² situated in the south western part of the island. The northeast and northwest winds, common in Cyclades, have a cooling effect, even on days with high temperatures.

Attendance to whatever problem or questions may come up having to do with the villa, dining recommendation, sport activities or other can be offered by a caretaker staying close to the house.

Amenities : Swimming pool, Satellite TV, Satellite Wi-Fi, special system for soft water throughout the house, high quality filtered drinking water, washing machine and dryer, central heating, cleaning and linen twice a week.

The nearest supermarket is a 5' drive from the villa, while one of the best places to eat is a 10' drive. The airport is 10km far from the villa (15' drive), and in 5' more you reach the port and the capital of the island.

The island of Naxos

Naxos is the biggest island of Cyclades with a long history and can offer a diversity of landscapes and experiences; green villages up the mountains, rocky dry hills near the sea, crystal clear turquoise water, numerous paths for walking and horse riding, byzantine little churches scattered everywhere, together with ancient ruins and ancient temples, museums, venetian castle-houses and a remarkable castle on top of the island's extensive historic town. One can take a cruise around the island or the nearby islands, including Paros, Mykonos and Santorini, all very easily accessible from Naxos.

While Naxos is the quintessential Cycladic island, with whitewashed houses, windmills, white sandy beaches and transparent turquoise waters, it also has its very own and very special charm and personality. Additionally it is one of the few islands that produce so much of its own local food. Meals offered in tavernas and little restaurants are cooked with fresh local ingredients (including Naxos meat, vegetables, all kinds of cheese, potatoes, tomatoes, olives and wine).

Going down the hill to the sea (350m road), you find the nicest beaches of the island. Even in August, when it's high season, you can reach nice little beaches and be almost alone. When the north wind is strong, you can visit Parthena's beach (5' drive), one of the two best beaches in the Cyclades where there is a sea sports complex for surfing and kite surfing, or Mikri Vigla's protected beach.

About Christina Gryboyianni

I am an architect living in Athens, where I own a design firm ( In 2003, on my way to another island to supervise the construction of a villa, I stopped in Naxos for two days and I immediately fell in love with the island. The villa I bought was shown to me on my first day there, and this was the second crush I had within the same day. The view was breathtaking! The landscape all around was calming and peaceful. I ended up buying the place, the best decision I have ever made. Fortunately, the villa was still under construction, so my husband and I built the light and colorful atmosphere we liked.

Christina Gryboyianni purchased this villa in 2003

Amazing Stay in Spectacular Villa Agapui on Naxos

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from an amazing stay at the Villa Agapui on Naxos, Greece. Christina and Antonis were so kind and welcoming from the moment we arrived. We were greeted by Christina who met us at the ferry to make sure we would not be lost as we made our way to her stunning villa. The villa itself is beautiful. It is impeccably designed and was very spacious for our family of 5. Every linen, towel, appliance and fixture was hand picked by Christina and Antonis, so everything is in perfect condition as they take a lot of pride in their home. The grounds are breath-taking, with a panoramic view down to the sea and many lovely areas to sit and relax and look out on the vista below. The pool is beautiful and well maintained, as are the gardens which are lush and perfectly manicured. The beach is a short drive down the bluff -- or you can even walk from the house. There are many interesting towns and lovely restaurants which are all easy accessible from the property. As other reviewers have said in their comments, the pictures can not capture the true beauty of this property. What is also hard to capture in a paragraph or two is the incredible kindness of Christina and Antonis. They treated us to local fresh fruits, cheeses and drinks, and were always willing to help us plan our day with their wealth of knowledge on the island's hiking, dining, beach-going and exploring. On our last day after we packed all our suitcases and loaded our family into our car we drove to Naxos Town to catch the ferry. In our hurry we forgot one of our suitcases inside the villa. Antonis jumped in his car with our belongings and drove all the way to deliver our suitcase as we stood on line to board the ferry. This would never have been possible if we stayed in a hotel, and it could have seriously complicated our vacation. Again this is an example of the kindness and generosity of Christina and Antonis, and the effort they will go through to make sure your family's stay is perfect. Thank you for everything Christina and Antonis, and thank you Antonis for saving the day!

Wonderful home on Naxos Island

  • 5 of 5

I would highly recommend staying at Villa Agapui. Agapui became our form of “cheers” for the 6 days we were fortunate enough to stay at the house. Christina picked us up at the airport and was gracious enough to take us to the grocery stores and share her favorite spots on the island. We received the most amazing welcome basket filled with great Naxos cheeses, a bottle of wine and fruit for days. Additionally, the refrigerator was stocked with beer, soft drinks and soda/tonic water for cocktails.

We cooked many meals here and enjoyed all the amenities. The house is spacious, functional and beautiful designed. It has everything you could wish for, a wonderful kitchen, great outdoor space, spacious showers and comfortable beds. The pool and lounge chairs were overlooking the sea and we enjoyed many a night watching the sunset while drinking wine. This is the best house I’ve ever rented from VRBO and it’s one that I would recommend to all my friends and colleagues who have plans to visit Naxos.

We have rented quite a few vacation properties over the years in the US and internationally, and this was by far the best overall experience ever. The home is even better than the pictures show. Everything is immaculate and in perfect working order. The grounds and pool are beautiful. The view is unbelievable. Linens and towels are lovely and abundant. The location is convenient to several beaches and 20 minutes from “town”. Most importantly, Christina and Antonis are amazing hosts. They were so helpful in orienting us to the house and the area, provided perfect recommendations for beaches, restaurants and day trips, and were incredibly helpful when we needed assistance. I cannot recommend this property enough and would go back tomorrow if I could!

Amazing place!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of five just returned from a week-long stay in Villa Agapui. This place is fantastic! The owners are absolutely delightful. They met us at the port, helped us with the car rental and brought us to the house which made things so much easier. On the drive to the house they showed us where to shop, some good local restaurants, favorite beaches, etc. The house itself is beautiful. The setting is stunning - overlooking Plaka beach. The pictures here don't do it justice. Every room has a balcony with amazing sea views; there's a beautiful outdoor covered eating area on the side of the house where we'd eat our breakfast every morning; the house is spotlessly clean throughout (they bring in a cleaning person mid-week to change the sheets, provide fresh towels too, which was a nice touch); the pool and surrounding grounds are very well maintained. The garden is amazing. We picked greens and vegetables for our salad every night; the kids loved picking juicy peaches and nectarines off the trees every day.

The house comes stocked with so many things - trash bags, paper towels, coffee, butter - all those annoying things that you don't want to buy for a week-long stay. When we arrived the kitchen was full of fresh fruit, local cheeses, olives, olive oil, local yogurt, wine, beer, much! I couldn't get over how much came with the house. I've never felt so immediately at home at a rental property.

From the house you can walk down the steep, windy road to the beach - takes about 5 minutes. I'd go for morning runs and the kids and I would walk down most evening to take a dip. Beautiful, clear water. You can either access a smaller, more secluded beach directly across from the bottom of the road, or walk 2 minutes down the road and access the end of Plaka beach, which is the big beach you see in the pictures.

Just a heads up that the hill to get to the house is very steep and curvy so practice your stick shift skills before you arrive. Our first time driving up almost gave me a heart attack but by the end of the week it was nothing. The views you get at the top make it well worth it!

Overall, I would highly recommend this place to anyone going to Naxos. I only hope that someday I can go back! Cheers.

Truly Magical Stay in Naxos - Perfect Villa

  • 5 of 5

From the time we started corresponding with Christina and Antonis we knew we had picked the right villa. Having never been to Naxos we were unsure of a lot of things - their help with ferries, rental cars and all our questions was so helpful. Arriving at the Villa it takes your breath away. The pictures don't do it justice and you must see for yourself the 360 degree panorama of pool, ocean and blue sky. The villa had absolutely everything we needed and more. Modern appliances (some of which are built ins and not visible from photos), beautiful towels and linens, good quality dishware, etc. It was also impeccably clean and decorated to perfection. A week was too short of a time to explore the island which has so much to offer. We enjoyed our time in the Port and touring inland villages. Highlight was definitely the many beaches and tavernas and, of course, spending time at the stunning pool in the Villa. Perched on the hillside it is the perfect spot to relax and unwind at the end of the day and watch spectacular sunsets. You could not ask for more accommodating hosts and we hope to be back one day soon!

Have stayed in many vrbo rentals around the world and this was the best!! The place is beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

The ambience is serene and majestic. The hosts are friendly, kind and informative. They even privided us with wine, beer, soda, bread, cheese, fruit and every condiment you could possibly want!! They met us at the airport, ordered a taxi for us, literally took us to the grocery and guided us to a great restaurant! Christina mapped out restaurants, ruins, shopping and areas of interest. Antonis was available whenever we had questions but our privacy was always respected. This is truly a place built and run with love!
