Waterfront cottages on Phinneys Harbour in the Monument Beach village of Bourne, MA. Conveniently located 5 minutes away from the Bourne Bridge. Swim and kayak right from the yard. Public beach to one side of the property, a small neighborhood of private beaches to the other side. Down the road from a children's playground and basketball and tennis courts. Short walk to the village center with a bakery, pizza shop, convenience store and home-made ice cream shop. One mile to the Cape Cod Canal bike paths, 20 minutes to Falmouth and 30 minutes to Woods Hole.
These are two small cottages that are connected by a common wrap around deck. Altogether, there are three bedrooms with sleeping for six. The main cottage has the kitchen, dining and living and two bedrooms. The larger bedroom has a queen bed, the smaller bedroom has two twin beds. There is also a small bathroom that has a tub and shower. The studio cottage has a queen bed, along with its own small fridge, Keurig and microwave. The 3/4 bathroom in the studio includes a shower. Altogether, there is sleeping for 6 between the two cottages. The cottages are rented together as one unit.
There is a grill and outdoor furniture for sitting and eating, as well as an outdoor shower for rinsing off after being in the water or the sand. The 1/3 acre lot is at the end of Monument Ave and also happens to be adjacent to the town public beach, called Monument Beach.
This property was perfect for a family - the 'old folks' (that would be my husband and myself - haha) enjoyed privacy and quiet time in the studio. Our daughter, her husband and two young girls were very comfortable in the main house. Our granddaughters got a kick out of going the few steps from main house to studio to see Grandma and Grandpa....or to make it their HQ when playing with their superhero dolls. We had a few days of overcast weather, so couldn't enjoy sunset every night, but we did see several and they were breathtaking. We: brought our bikes and spent some time on the bike path along the Canal; the playground within walking distance, was a plus; enjoyed a day in nearby Falmouth where we loved the British Beer Company (food and service = outstanding); and a day in Chatham - lots of shops and a lighthouse to tour. Having the beach so close, it was hard to leave to enjoy other activities. I must say, however, we did find the beach a little challenging for young kids (ages 4 and 7) - while the sand was nice, there were lots of rocks and broken shells making it hard for them to stand in water (they wouldn't keep their water shoes on, so got a few cuts on feet). That is the ONLY negative comment I have and only offer it as a heads-up to be sure to bring water shoes. That said, overall, our week on Monument Beach was outstanding. The owners were awesome, so friendly and accommodating, the properties were clean and had nearly everything we needed. The Gray Gables store offered everything from great meats to batteries, beer and wine; Lobster Trap Restaurant was wonderful; Becky's Bakery had delicious sweets; and there was an ice cream place within walking distance of cottages. For me, it was all about sitting on the deck, cool drink in hand and marveling at the sunset!
My husband and I spent a week at the Waterfront Cottages at Monument Beach with our daughter and her family. The two cottages, joined by a spacious deck, were a perfect place to stay. The hubcap and I stayed in the studio, while our daughter, her husband, and their two children stayed in the main cottage, where we joined them for meals and family time. When we wanted quiet time -- or some sleep -- we simply went next door to our studio cottage. The set up was just great, and all the furnishings were in excellent condition and very comfortable! The owners were gracious, welcoming, kind, and attentive. They greeted us upon arrival, explained things thoroughly to us, and were always available to answer questions. The location is perfect. Both cottages have large picture windows, maximizing the view of the harbor, the beach, and the sunsets. The beach is steps away. A ferry to Martha's Vineyard is a short drive away, as are other scenic little towns. Given the coziness of the cottages, the fantastic deck with an even better view, and the proximity of the beach, it was a bit of a challenge getting away for a day. The draw of our immediate surroundings proved to be tough competition. Our entire family highly recommends the Waterfront Cottages at Monument Beach!
The property was exactly as expected, well maintained, clean and very well stocked. While there we enjoyed kayaking, swimming and shell/rock hunting (The outdoor shower helped to keep the cottages as sand free as possible). We went to a play at the College Light Opera Company in Falmouth, ate seafood at the Lobster Trap and I enjoyed the best lobster roll I have ever eaten at the British Beer Company. There is also a light house nearby and good old touristy shopping.
Most of our time was spent at the cottages and on the beach because it was so perfect we didn't want to go far or for long.
The owner was very accommodating and easy to deal with.
It was a perfect vacation.
