About Katherine Kelly

A Sarasota resident for 56 years, my love for preservation, gardening, collecting and the environment was the perfect combination to create this Historic vacation property. The first endeavor was Sweet Mango Manor next door. The Birdhouse was moved to its current location also on the Manor property in 2006. I have personally lived in both homes and moved in August of 2014. I still live in the neighborhood - just down the street - and visit every day. I am available 24-7 for any needs the guests may have.

Katherine Kelly purchased this bungalow in 1999

What makes this bungalow unique

Katherine. We "girls" enjoyed our stay in your bungalow. The location was great. We enjoyed being able to be together in such a lovely setting. Hoping another year may bring us back your way. Once again thank you for your hospitality.

I loved my stay at the Bird House Bungalo. Katherine was so kind and accommodating. The house is beautiful, and in great condition. The location was perfect for me... It was 10 minutes from the beach, 10 minutes from Ringling Museum, and one hour from the airport. If i come back to Sarasota I will be sure to stay here again. Thank you Katherine for making my first trip to Sarasota a wonderful one!

Just Like home

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at sweet mango manor 5 years ago for almost a month. We loved it ....We tried to rent it this year, but it was booked. So we decided to give Kitty's Birdhouse a try. Well we were not disappointed..... As always Kitty is a true professional.... The house was perfect. We had our family fly in from california....... The house has everything you could want...

It is decorated beautifully ( so much old Florida Charm)....... it is spacious, cozy and very clean. The location was ideal for us. Close to art, beaches, and downtown. Publix two blocks away... We already booked for next year...Thank you Kitty for a perfect, relaxing home away from home. See you next year

Recent stay at the Bird House

  • 5 of 5

This was our third stay with Catherine Kelly, the first time at the Bird House. The house was just as pictured, charming, artsy and very comfortable. We enjoy the location as it is in close proximity to the downtown restaurants and activities as well as the marina and Lido Beach. For three adults there was more than enough space to spread out and relax, the screened porch was great for morning or late day reading, Catherine is always accommodating. This is a great house for anyone, see you next winter!

Great retreat in the middle of town

  • 4 of 5

The Bird House is a unique property across from a park, walkable to a Publix, and less than a ten minute drive to Lido beach.

After a couple of trips to the area where we rented a condo on Siesta Key, we realized that Sarasota itself is so interesting and vibrant, we'd rather base ourselves in town.

The Bird House is a rare find. Personally restored and decorated by the artist/owner, it's a vacation in Old Florida with artifacts galore, hand-painted old furniture, colorful walls and retro decoration but full of creature comforts. The kitchen has everything and (a rarity) lots of counter space. Everything is clean, relaxing (two porches) and welcoming. It's perfect for a family. We're just two but we like to spread out and entertain.

The owner, Katherine, is always available to answer questions or make recommendations. Nothing went wrong in the house, so we can only assume she'd be able to handle....whatever.

The neighborhood is historic and changing. Some people might be uncomfortable with the lack of 'gated community amenities' or 'resort surroundings.' We liked staying in a real, non-touristy place where music, clubs, theater, and good to great restaurants are a few minutes drive away.

It was a five star vacation for us, but I picked four stars to account for the location, which might not suit some people.

Charming Old Florida experience

  • 5 of 5

To describe the Bird House as charming is an understatement. The whimsical decor, attention to detail and Old Florida atmosphere are the epitome of tropical casual chic. The house has everything you need and I enjoyed staying here so much that I rarely left the property. Thank you Katherine for providing a delightful refuge for me.
