This is a Traditional New England Island Cabin located on Cow Island in beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee. The nearest towns are Wolfeboro, New Hampshire (America's oldest resort town) and Tuftonboro, New Hampshire. The lively towns of Laconia and Meredith (with movie theaters and arcades) are about twenty minutes by boat (longer by car). Nearest launches - 5 min. to Harilla Landing and Nineteen Mile Bay in Tuftonboro. Miles of hiking trails on the island and a lake with 200+ islands. Fish, lots of fish.
Our cabin has all the charm of the past with all amenities you need for a wonderful holiday on the water. It is family oriented (with requisite rocking chairs) and very quiet. Oh, you'll probably hear loons at night from the wildlife sanctuary just across from the cabin but they are very polite. The decks face the sunset and our private dock. Very safe swimming off the dock and point (a tiny sand beach).
This is one of the few rentals on the island - yes, it is on an island with no car access - in midst of private homes. The camp is a fully equipped log cabin. It has docking for two boats and large decks on two sides. At present there is a single bathroom with shower downstairs, a half bath upstairs; kitchen with refrigerator, gas stove, microwave, cooking and eating utensils; electric power, phone (no TV!); wood stove; outside Texas smoker barbecue and separate fire pit (bring marshmallows).
Downstairs is the master bedroom (two single beds) that has the shower. Upstairs there is a sleeping loft with two regular beds and two Scandinavian style built-in beds (kid friendly) with the half bath. The camp has 144 feet of water front - a tiny beach. The lake, if you didn't know it, is super clear and it's water is drinkable.
This is New England's most beautiful area - the nation's most beautiful lake. The movies 'On Golden Pond' and 'What About Bob?' were filmed here. The island is large (500+ acres), with miles of hiking paths. Come for a visit... leave cares behind.
AGAIN - THIS IS ON AN ISLAND SO YOU'LL NEED A BOAT! They can be leased or BYOB (bring your own boat).
BTW, the cabin is set up for single families, it's not a party cabin, and rents for one week minimum.
The availability calendar on VRBO/HOMEAWAY is never correct. Go to danderby dot net for an up to date listing availability.
I write and do photography. The writing has been, for the most part, about the impact of technology on society. The photography mostly weddings, which are great fun but really challenging.
Trained as a designer, I've done that and hi-tech management for years. I have a couple degrees in design (NC State & Stanford University) and was a visiting lecturer at Stanford for a decade.
A southerner by birth, I've lived on both coasts, overseas and now am settled in a little valley beside a tiny river on the coast of New Hampshire. The weather here can be cold in the winter but the people are warm.
Our four kids followed us from the west coast, so I believe we're here to stay.
Dan Derby purchased this cabin in 1999
