We had a great Christmas holiday here--would do it again in a heartbeat!
My husband and I spent our first anniversary at Awesome View, it was exactly what we were looking for. On the side of a mountain, tucked away in the trees, the only sounds of other humans is the occasional car on the street below or the charming church bells in the distance. The outside hot tub and covered porch are reason enough to book, fantastic views of the valley and surrounding mountains, many lazy hours were spent in one or the other relaxing and imbibing. Maggie Valley is a small cute town with enough shopping and eating if you don't want to go far. Within an hour drive we found ourselves several activities, beautiful hiking on the Appalachian Trail and Smokey Mountains, artsy towns and exploring in nearby Asheville and The Biltmore Village. My only complaint would be for the cleaning crew, the porch needed to be cleaned of normal outside debris and the interior seemed in need of a serious dusting. Also because the rental agency sets strict rules for departure, "no dishes in the sink or dishwasher", it seemed to us that the dishes put away in the cabinets were less than clean. Our assumption being that to avoid additional charges from leaving clean dishes in the dishwasher, they hide away dirty items in the cabinet. However please take this review with a grain of salt as my husband and I both work in the hospitality industry and are often more critical than the average person, the house was tidy and pleasant. We would definitely rent again.
We couldn't drive up the driveway due to ruts at the bottom and the driveway being too steep at the entrance and at a weird angle to the street. you have to make a sharp left and climb up a steep grade at the same time. poor engineering of the driveway entrance.
The hardwood floors were not swept or mopped. Not clean.
The rug in the bedroom has a big ugly stain in it. carpet stain remover could clean that up if you wanted to address that.
There was a broken window in the master bedroom that looked like it had been broken for a while.
On the plus side, the weather was gorgeous, we enjoyed our time on the hiking trails and in Asheville!
The place was simply perfect. The cabin was equiped with everyting we needed. The place was even more spacious than we anticipated. We were lucky to have snow the first two nights, and those days were magical.. We were a group of six and were driving from Miami. We thought it was a good idea to rent a 15 passenger van. Advice? Do not drive a big van to a mountain. The ride could be bumpy.
Fantastic weekend away in a lovely cabin with views out of this world! We enjoyed the fire pit and hot tub. The beds were comfortable as were the couch and living room chairs. The kitchen was stocked and good sized. The porch was large and covered. Lots of parking space and easy to maneuver a suburban around. We would highly recommend this cabin. Our group had plenty of space and had a great time in spite of the lack of snow.
In the rooms, there were incredible views, especially at night. Internet wasn't the BEST, but it worked 95% of the time. The hot tub was fabulous!!!!! I, myself, enjoyed every minute of my "hot tub time!"
