Feel your stress melt away as you go down a country lane to Indian Bluff - a very comfortable, beautifully furnished home sitting in the middle of a 172 acre working farm - similar to a bed and breakfast, but better!.
Explore the spring fed creek in front of the home and see hundred of fossils in the limestone banks, fish or simply throw rocks in the San Gabriel River.
Large live oaks, centuries old, make great shady spots for sitting outdoors. Enjoy the outdoor patio in back and watch the spectacular sunsets as you enjoy a glass of wine or beer after your day's activities.
Enjoy the fire-pit in the fall and winter seasons. Many a S'mores and marshmallow have been roasted over it.
As you walk about, watch for arrow heads - many have been found.
Large king master suite, two queen bedrooms and guest bath. 22' high queen inflatable mattress also available. The dining table has a large leaf and will seat 8. Additional chairs in bedrooms.
This home is ideal for multi-generational families, family reunions, romantic get-aways, and girl's weekends.
My mom and dad purchased the original 112 acres in 1968 and after my dad died, we began buying it from my mom. She passed away in 2010 and we inherited her home and art studio, which are also on the farm. Not wanting to sell the homes, we remodeled them and began letting others share the beauty and history of the homes and the farm in late 2010 (HomeAway #903120 and #369386).
In 2013 we were fortunate to be able to buy the adjoining 60 acre farm and the 3 bedroom home on it. We have totally remodeled that home and furnished it very comfortably. I have been using it as overflow rentals from the other homes listed, but decided to go ahead and give it its own listing.
Dan and I have had a ball meeting people from all over the United States and the world.
Dan and I both have been in the insurance business since college. We have both retired and are enjoying spending more time on the farm. Between the 3 vacation rentals, running a 172 acre farm, church activities and volunteering, we are very busy.
Sheron Scurlock, Owner purchased this house in 2013
We truly live in one of the most beautiful areas of Texas, and certainly one of the prime spots along the San Gabriel River. Guests enjoy the mile of river frontage, fishing, hiking, fossil and arrow head hunting, pecan harvest, or simply being lazy on the patio enjoying a book or drink under the huge live oaks. In the evening listen for the owls as they call to each other.
The views from the bluff are spectacular! The photo of the sunset over the river is taken from the bluff behind Indian Bluff.
The house at Indian Bluff is very comfortable, roomy, tastefully-decorated, spotlessly-clean and well-equipped. The setting is quite idyllic, with farm fields to the front of the house, and a large stand of lovely, native trees at the back.
It is a short walk to the Indian Bluff lookout, with outstanding views of the river valley, and many different species of birds can be seen on a regular basis. There is also a well-maintained track, suitable for walking or golf cart, that leads down to the banks of the river.
The house is located on a 'working farm', and there are lots of goats, and a couple of horses, which can provide lots of entertainment for visitors.
The owners, Sheron and Dan Scurlock, were excellent hosts, always friendly and helpful. Sheron took us on a tour of the whole farm in her ATV, which was great for my mother, who would have been unable to walk to many of the places that we visited. Dan was always willing to tell us interesting stories about the farm and the surrounding area. Their dog, Jack, is quite a character, and he loves to have his belly rubbed.
During our stay, we really enjoyed using the barbecue, and sitting out on porch area at the back of the house for meals. This area was also a very pleasant place to read or play guitar.
It was also really nice to be able to go for walks around the farm, with the beautiful old trees, the river, and the native wildlife. Dan and Sheron have made a concerted effort to preserve the natural beauty of their property, and this a gem.
The house is located about 15 minutes from Georgetown, where there is very good shopping, restaurants, and entertainment. The road into town is paved, but it is pretty narrow in places, and care needs to be taken, especially when approaching the entrance to Scurlock Farms.
I would recommend this property to anyone, who is looking for a comfortable house for up to six people, who likes being in a beautiful, natural setting, and who doesn't mind making a short drive (15 minutes) for shopping and entertainment. Yes, I would come back here again!
Our family enjoyed 4 days of relaxing, walking the trails, roasting marshmellows etc. The property is very country and beautiful. Sharon was a wonderful host and welcomed us with freshly made poppy-seed muffins which we enjoyed- thank you. This was such great quality time with our family. We will book again next year!
Thank you so much Sheron! We had a wonderful time and enjoyed our stay very much!
We held our annual family Thanksgiving at Scurlock Farms. My family travels for 3 different states to see our father each Thanksgiving. This was a wonderful setting for our family. The open outdoors were great for family games and night camp fires. The bathrooms are large. Kitchen was well equipped! We will be back. :)
Thanks for making this home so welcoming. Our mom was celebrating her 80th birthday and we needed a place to call our own for the weekend and this place was great. Yes, there was plenty of rain for the weekend but didn't damper our plans. Sheron & Dan were super about coming & helping us figure the DVD player so we could chill with some favorite movies. Lovely home & hope we can come again. Thanks for your hospitality.
Very comfortable home at the end of a dusty road. Very well equipped with every need anticipated. Our family used two of the three beds and found them to be very comfortable. The owners are very nice to work with. They answered all our questions about the farm and Sheron took my daughter and me on a hour-long tour of the farm including a bluff view of the river and a river level visit where we skipped rocks. That level is reached by a walk through a pasture and a pecan orchard and well worth it. Two recommendations are to provide a guide to the TV channels and to replace the older furniture around the fire pit.
Indian Bluff at Scurlock Farms is ideally located. We have several wineries in the area, some with tasting rooms in Georgetown. InnerSpace Caverns is a fantastic cavern discovered during the construction of IH 35. Be sure and go to Blue Hole, a local swimming spot just off of the square. Antique shop around the square in Georgetown or go to Salado, a 25 minute drive. See the Williamson County Museum, the Art Museum and the many art sculptures placed around town. Golf in one of the many great courses around Georgetown. Georgetown is host to many festivals - Red Poppy Festival in April, Halloween Fest in October, Christmas Stroll in December, and every First Friday and Saturday the square is full of booths filled with all kinds of goodies. See first rate live plays at the beautifully restored Palace Theater on the Square. Shop at the award winning Wolf Ranch in Georgetown, or the Premium Outlet Mall just 15 minutes away. Austin and its many activities are only 30 minutes away. Georgetown is blessed with many superb restaurants, so you try out as many as you have time for. 2/3 of all birds found in the state of TX are found in Williamson County. Many birders stop along the roadside of the farm to see the many varieties that make their homes here. We are blessed to have many habitats on the farm - forest, thicket, prairie and water frontage, so we attract a large variety of birds. Several guests that are avid birders have seen a lifer while visiting Scurlock Farms. Many arrow heads and artifacts have been found on the farm as Indian Bluff is the highest elevation for miles, and the Indians camped and lived on the land. Georgetown has miles and miles of hike and bike trails, connecting several beautiful parks. Be sure and visit the Visitor's Center on the Square and get a brochure for a walking tour around the beautifully restored Historic neighborhoods, or check out a free bike rental and tour the town on two wheels.
