Indian Bluff - Spectacular River Views from 70+ foot Bluff

Feel your stress melt away as you go down a country lane to Indian Bluff - a very comfortable, beautifully furnished home sitting in the middle of a 172 acre working farm - similar to a bed and breakfast, but better!.

Explore the spring fed creek in front of the home and see hundred of fossils in the limestone banks, fish or simply throw rocks in the San Gabriel River.

Large live oaks, centuries old, make great shady spots for sitting outdoors. Enjoy the outdoor patio in back and watch the spectacular sunsets as you enjoy a glass of wine or beer after your day's activities.

Enjoy the fire-pit in the fall and winter seasons. Many a S'mores and marshmallow have been roasted over it.

As you walk about, watch for arrow heads - many have been found.

Large king master suite, two queen bedrooms and guest bath. 22' high queen inflatable mattress also available. The dining table has a large leaf and will seat 8. Additional chairs in bedrooms.

This home is ideal for multi-generational families, family reunions, romantic get-aways, and girl's weekends.

About Sheron Scurlock, Owner

My mom and dad purchased the original 112 acres in 1968 and after my dad died, we began buying it from my mom. She passed away in 2010 and we inherited her home and art studio, which are also on the farm. Not wanting to sell the homes, we remodeled them and began letting others share the beauty and history of the homes and the farm in late 2010 (HomeAway #903120 and #369386).

In 2013 we were fortunate to be able to buy the adjoining 60 acre farm and the 3 bedroom home on it. We have totally remodeled that home and furnished it very comfortably. I have been using it as overflow rentals from the other homes listed, but decided to go ahead and give it its own listing.

Dan and I have had a ball meeting people from all over the United States and the world.

Dan and I both have been in the insurance business since college. We have both retired and are enjoying spending more time on the farm. Between the 3 vacation rentals, running a 172 acre farm, church activities and volunteering, we are very busy.

Why Sheron Scurlock, Owner chose Texas Hill Country

We truly live in one of the most beautiful areas of Texas, and certainly one of the prime spots along the San Gabriel River. Guests enjoy the mile of river frontage, fishing, hiking, fossil and arrow head hunting, pecan harvest, or simply being lazy on the patio enjoying a book or drink under the huge live oaks. In the evening listen for the owls as they call to each other.

What makes this house unique

The views from the bluff are spectacular! The photo of the sunset over the river is taken from the bluff behind Indian Bluff.

Beautiful house and setting. Lots to explore both on the farm and in surrounding small towns. Very relaxing break and my kids especially enjoyed hunting for fossils and arrowheads.

Great Family Place!

  • 5 of 5

Our family rented two houses from Sheron for a wedding weekend. Sheron showed several of us around on the farm and quickly responded to questions as they arose. Her blueberry muffins were delicious, and check-in and check out was very simple. We highly recommend this place!

Owner's Response: It was so much fun showing your family around the farm, especially Lottie from Ireland celebrating her 4th birthday! I know she enjoyed seeing the baby goats and gathering eggs, and "going fast" in the Polaris! Thanks for choosing Scurlock Farms. If you ever need another family gathering place, we would love to have you visit us again, maybe for a reunion.

Wow, Scurlock Farms is a sliver of Heaven on Earth!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were looking for a nice country getaway with lots to do for our 10 year anniversary. We are so glad we found Scurlock Farms! It is a running farm (goats, hay, pecans, etc) with a total of 3 rental homes, and two homes the owners live in on the property. I wasn't sure how I felt about that since we wanted our privacy, but it was perfect! Dan and Sheron are there when you need them, but give you plenty of privacy.

We were amazed at the welcome gift of wine, fruit, and homemade muffins that greeted us upon arrival!!

The thing that made us choose this home in the end were the pictures of the bluffs along the river. We were not disappointed. While we couldn't see the river from the house, it was a short 1 min walk to the bluff edge overlooking the river! It was so peaceful. We sat there every morning with our coffee.

We also had a great time climbing about the rocky bluffs only a short 3-5 min walk from the house. We spent a good part of they day here.

When booking I was a but confused about how close river access was to the house. The easiest access is about a 5 min drive back towards the front of the farm, through a gate into the Pecan Orchard. Sheron was kind enough to give us a tour our first day making it easy to find. If you are up for a bit of an adventure/hiking, there is a really fun way to access the river along the bluffs on the other side of the creek bed. If you like to be outdoors hiking and exploring you will LOVE this place!!

Sheron and Dan went above and beyond to meet our needs and make us feel welcomed! You couldn't ask for more!!

FYI: Absolutely bring long pants and hiking shoes!

Owner's Response: I am so glad you and Justin got out and explored the farm. With 172 acres and 1 mile of river frontage, there is a lot of different terrain - something for everyone! Guests do enjoy their privacy at Scurlock Farms. With the houses being spread along 1/2 of drive, with the homes being at opposite ends and our families homes in the middle, and with lots of live oaks and twists in the road in between, everyone has their privacy. Some guests check in at the farm and never leave until their departure date. Others use the farm as their home base and make trips into town, wineries, farmer's markets, and enjoy some of our really good restaurants. Looking forward to your next visit!!

Fantastic!

What a lovely, lovely place to stay! My husband, pup, and myself stayed in this lovely home over Labor Day weekend and have had the best time! The home is clean, comfortable, well-cared for, and exactly as advertised. The farm is a wonderful place to explore -- beautiful overlook, awesome and peaceful river experience, relaxing spot to sit and read by the creek -- I really just can't say enough about how fantastic this experience has been! So quiet, private, and peaceful. The owner was very friendly and available if we needed anything (also, her homemade muffins are heavenly!), but really, the farm is so big, that we felt like we were the only ones here most of the time! I would definitely recommend this home. We really felt like we found a gem in this vacation rental! Thank you, Scurlocks, for letting us enjoy Indian Bluff! Fantastic!

Indian Bluff at Scurlock Farms is ideally located. We have several wineries in the area, some with tasting rooms in Georgetown. InnerSpace Caverns is a fantastic cavern discovered during the construction of IH 35. Be sure and go to Blue Hole, a local blue lagoon swimming spot just off of the square. Antique shop around the square in Georgetown or go to Salado, a 25 minute drive. See the Williamson County Museum, the Art Museum and the many art sculptures placed around town. Golf one of the many great courses around Georgetown. Georgetown is host to many festivals - Red Poppy Festival in April, Halloween Fest in October, Christmas Stroll in December, and every First Friday and Saturday the square is full of booths filled with all kinds of wares and goodies. See first rate productions at the beautifully restored Palace Theater on the Square. Shop at the award winning Wolfe Ranch in Georgetown, or the Premium Outlet Mall just 15 minutes away. Austin and its many activities are only 30 minutes away. Georgetown is blessed with many superb restaurants, so you try out as many as you have time for. 2/3 of all birds found in the state of TX are found in Williamson County. Many birders stop along the roadside of the farm to see the many varieties that make their homes here. We are blessed to have many habitats on the farm - forest, thicket, prairie and water frontage, so we attract a large variety of birds. Several guests that are avid birders have seen a lifer while visiting Scurlock Farms. Many arrow heads and artifacts have been found on the farm as Indian Bluff is the highest elevation for miles, and the Indians camped and lived on the land. Georgetown has miles and miles of hike and bike trails, connecting several beautiful parks. Be sure and visit the Visitor's Center on the Square and get a brochure for a walking tour around the beautifully restored Historic neighborhoods, or check out a free bike rental and tour the town on two wheels.

Notes:
For city folks looking for a really relaxing country experience, it is yours for the asking! Children love to help feed and pet the goats, even hold the babies, help gather eggs from our free-range hens or even drive a tractor. Ginger and Duster, our two horses, love to be fed apples. The 1+ mile San Gabriel River frontage, has been a favorite with young and old guests alike. Kids love finding fossils and fool's gold in the wide white limestone banks and throwing rocks in the river. Anglers have caught many blue gill, catfish and bass. Don't have any gear or know how to fish? No problem! Just let me know and I will put you in contact with John, our local guide and he will provide everything you need and come to the farm and give you a lesson. Many arrowheads have been found on the farm and maybe you'll get lucky and find one to keep. Hike about and see many bird species (2/3 of all birds found in Texas are found in Williamson County). Enjoy a free tour in a Polaris.
