Overview

About the property

Indian Bluff - Spectacular River Views from 70+ foot Bluff

Experience rural life at Indian Bluff - a very comfortable, beautifully furnished home sitting in the middle of a 172 acre working farm. Better than a B&B or a bed-in-a-box on the interstate (hotel room).

Explore the spring fed creek in front of the home and see many fossils in the limestone banks, fish or simply throw rocks in the San Gabriel River.

Large live oaks, centuries old, make great shady spots for sitting outdoors. Enjoy the outdoor patio in back and watch the spectacular sunsets as you enjoy a glass of wine or beer after your day's activities in front of the fire pit.

Enjoy the fire pit in the fall and winter seasons. Many a S'mores and marshmallow have been roasted over it.

As you walk about, watch for arrow heads as many have been found.

Large king master suite, two queen bedrooms and guest bath. The dining table has a large leaf and will seat 8.

This home is ideal for multi-generational families, family reunions, families with children, romantic getaways, and girl's weekends.

About Sheron Scurlock, Owner

My mom and dad purchased the original 112 acres in 1968 and after my dad died, we began buying it from my mom. She passed away in 2010 and we inherited her home and art studio, which are also on the farm. Not wanting to sell the homes, we remodeled them and began letting others share the beauty and history of the homes and the farm in late 2010 (HomeAway #903120 and #369386).

In 2013 we were fortunate to be able to buy the adjoining 60 acre farm and the 3 bedroom home on it. We have totally remodeled that home and furnished it very comfortably. I have been using Indian Bluff as overflow rentals from the other homes listed, but decided to go ahead and give it its own listing.

Dan and I have had a ball meeting people from every state in the United States and 15 different countries.

Dan and I both have been in the insurance business since college. We have both retired and are enjoying spending more time on the farm. Between the 3 vacation rentals, running a 172 acre farm, church activities and volunteering, we are very busy.

Why Sheron Scurlock, Owner chose Texas Hill Country

We truly live in one of the most beautiful areas of Texas, and certainly one of the prime spots along the San Gabriel River. Guests enjoy the mile of river frontage, fishing, hiking, fossil and arrow head hunting, pecan harvest, or simply being lazy on the patio enjoying a book or drink under the huge live oaks. In the evening listen for the owls as they call to each other.

What makes this house unique

The views from the bluff are spectacular! The photo of the sunset over the river is taken from the bluff behind Indian Bluff.

Experience rural farm life in luxury and comfort! Enjoy a free tour of the farm in a Polaris and get up-close and personal with the farm animals, learn about the flora and fauna of the farm, and visit the river.

Notes:
For city folks looking for a really relaxing country experience, it is yours for the asking! Children love to help feed and pet the goats, even hold the babies, help gather eggs from our free-range hens or even drive a tractor. Ginger and Duster, our two horses, love to be fed apples. The 1+ mile San Gabriel River frontage, has been a favorite with young and old guests alike. Kids love finding fossils and fool's gold in the wide white limestone banks and throwing rocks in the river. Anglers have caught many blue gill, catfish and bass. Don't have any gear or know how to fish? No problem! Just let me know and I will put you in contact with John, our local guide, and he will provide everything you need and come to the farm and give you a lesson. Many arrowheads have been found on the farm and maybe you'll get lucky and find one to keep. All Hike about and see many bird species (2/3 of all birds found in Texas are found in Williamson County - you may get lucky and find one!

Great experience and wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

Our four grandchildren were so excited from the time they saw the entrance to the farm, all the way 'til the end. They did not want to leave. They enjoyed Jack, the Great Pyrenees, feeding and interacting with the goats and horses and being up close with the cattle, searching for fossils on their river and exploring the 172 acres. James and I plan to return! The grandkids also look forward to returning in the future! THANK you for the fruit and eggs, too! Thank you, Scurlock Family, for sharing your farm! Y'all are wonderful people!

Great Girl's Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We loved having a girl's weekend at the farm!! Sharon brought us delicious blueberry muffins and was ready to accommodate in every way! We loved how quiet the house was and how easy it was to get away or head into the city. We would love to come back!

Owner's Response: I am so glad Indian Bluff was available for you to enjoy while here from Florida for your nephew's wedding. So much better to have a place to relax and be comfortable between wedding events than a hotel room! Mark, did you get a photo of the roadrunner you saw?

A rare opportunity to stay in comfort and style, while surrounded by native trees and wildlife.

  • 5 of 5

This was our second, three-month visit to Scurlock Farms, and we have booked to come back again next year. My mother, Pattie, was born in Texas, but after marrying a Canadian, she has lived in Ontario since 1951. Scurlock Farms is a perfect winter destination for snowbirds like us.

The Indian Bluff house that we rent, at Scurlock Farms, is spacious with three, well-appointed bedrooms, and a fold-out bed in the garage if needed. We often have guests come to stay, and so the extra beds come in handy. The beds are very comfortable, with clean sheets, blankets, duvets and pillows. The bedrooms are tastefully decorated with Texan decor, and there are several prints of paintings by J. P. Montague, Sheron Scurlock's mother and a favourite artist of President Lyndon Johnson. Each bedroom has lots of closet space for clothes, as well as chests of drawers. Each bedroom has a ceiling fan, and the whole house has central heating and air conditioning. The master bedroom has a spacious ensuite washroom with a shower/bathtub, and make-up mirror, etc. The other two bedrooms share a washroom that has a shower and a make-up mirror, etc. There are plenty of clean towels and linen, etc.

The living room is very pleasant, with comfortable chairs and a couch, a large-screen tv, a fireplace, and lots of paintings and photos on the walls.

The kitchen and dining area is well-equipped with a microwave, and gas-fired oven / stove, cupboards, full of dishes and cutlery, a large refrigerator, a dishwasher, two sinks, and a dining table that will seat six.

There is a laundry area in the garage, with a washing machine and a clothes drier. The garage also has lots of toys and games for the kids, in addition to a spare fold-out bed.

At the back of the house, there is a barbecue area, with a charcoal barbecue, and sheltered seating for six. There is also an area to have a fire, with seating as well. I really like this part of the property because it is surrounded by native trees, and we saw many birds and animals, while enjoying our meals. There is also a pathway that leads through the trees to a bluff that overlooks the San Gabriel River. This is a great place for bird watching!

Sheron and Dan are excellent hosts, and they always go out of their way to make our stay very enjoyable. They always respond immediately if we have any questions or concerns. If you like nature at it's best, I highly recommend a visit to Scurlock Farms!

Owner's Response: It is always delightful to host your family at Scurlock Farms and I am already looking forward to your 3 month return in January! You have the best of both worlds - the cooler summers at your home in Canada and the warmer winters at Scurlock Farms. See you in January!!

Indian Bluff at Scurlock Farms is ideally located. We have several wineries in the area, some with tasting rooms in Georgetown. Inner Space Caverns is a fantastic cavern discovered during the construction of IH 35. Be sure and go to Blue Hole, a local blue lagoon swimming spot just off of the square. Antique shop around the square in Georgetown or go to Salado, a 25 minute drive. See the Williamson County Museum, the Art Museum and the many art sculptures placed around town. Golf one of the many great courses around Georgetown. Georgetown is host to many festivals - Red Poppy Festival in April, Halloween Fest in October, Christmas Stroll in December, and every First Friday and Saturday the square is full of booths filled with all kinds of wares and goodies. See first rate productions at the beautifully restored Palace Theater on the Square. Shop at the award winning Wolfe Ranch in Georgetown, or the Premium Outlet Mall just 15 minutes away. Austin and its many activities are only 30 minutes away. Georgetown is blessed with many superb restaurants, so you try out as many as you have time for. 2/3 of all birds found in the state of TX are found in Williamson County. Many birders stop along the roadside of the farm to see the many varieties that make their homes here. We are blessed to have many habitats on the farm - forest, thicket, prairie and water frontage, so we attract a large variety of birds. Several guests that are avid birders have seen a lifer while visiting Scurlock Farms. Many arrow heads and artifacts have been found on the farm as Indian Bluff is the highest elevation for miles, and the Indians camped and lived on the land. Georgetown has miles and miles of hike and bike trails, connecting several beautiful parks. Be sure and visit the Visitor's Center on the Square and get a brochure for a walking tour around the beautifully restored Historic neighborhoods, or check out a free bike rental and tour the town on two wheels.
