Five adult family members shared this location for a month in February 2017. We did not have the benefit of recent reviews, so will leave a thorough and honest one. We had visitors for two of the weeks, including young children and a pair of 24 year olds.
This is a large house with the benefit of numerous areas to relax, outside and in. The property has a great deal of potential -- privacy, ocean front along a pleasant pathway (about 2 minutes from the house), good parking, quiet area with some local areas in which to bicycle. It is also very well equipped -- the kitchen has everything you might need including spices. The are lots of beach towels. The loft and master are open to each other and to the lower level so not very private. Ocean is clear for swimming but sharks visit daily. The house is for sale -- my number was handed to an agent without my permission and we had to allow a home inspection.
The bad; Needs work, mangroves overgrown, splintery decking, torn cushions, pool heater broken for more than half of our stay, fridge leaked and freezer thawed everything out twice, kayak dock was rotting and launch posts broken. Much debris in water off the swim ladder. (we did work to clean these latter two up). SUP missing fin and paddle, kayak seat backs broken, the advertised bicycles are rusting and in very poor condition. We managed to make 2 useable but I would not take them far. There are no tiki umbrellas on the dock as advertised and it is hot. We rented a place advertising a hot tub -- there isn't one and I see the ad is now changed. There is someone living in a houseboat at the dock.
The ugly; We noted no screens on the loft windows, but opened to ventilate when AC not needed. Found chewed up things on a shelf. AC then on and windows closed and we were treated to the sound of animals trying to chew their way in twice, eating large holes in the screens and chewing at window frames. Rats, big ones. Our concerns were brushed off at first then we insisted on an exterminator who found lots of feces around. This is the tropics but there is too much uncared for foliage and debris around and many desirable places for rats to hide We were unable to open windows for most of our stay and avoided the upper decks and veranda due to the poop everywhere. We encountered a generally defensive response to concerns as we raised them and a refusal to compensate for the losses. We did receive a dinner voucher for a local restaurant.
We had a blast at Bamboo Palms. Couldn't have asked for a better place to hang out with our family on our 1st trip to the Keys. The house was perfect, kitchen well stocked with everything we needed! Loved going up the the top deck and catching the evening breeze, or watching the sunrise or sunset. We didn't want to leave. Also only about 20 drive to Key West.
I stayed here for a month and the moment I got there, it just felt like "ahhhhhhh!" My family and friends all felt the same way as soon as they arrived. The house is very warm and inviting with its beautiful decor and design and awesome views from the second floor and third floor deck. Even the stars in the evening sky were amazing! Sometimes there were 10 guests but it never felt crowded as there are so many cozy areas to "get away" and relax. We enjoyed the kayaks, pool and hot tub and the beautiful "boardwalk" to the dock. My friends and I agreed that this was the most fully outfitted home we had stayed in with plenty of towels and linens and a fully stocked kitchen with just about every utensil you can think of. The beds are amazingly comfortable. We are back home and it's cold, but all I have to do is think of the Bamboo Palms to recover that "Ahhhhhh" feeling. We are hoping to get back there again! Thank you Leah for letting us stay at your beautiful piece of paradise!
My family & I just returned from Bamboo Palms after spending a fantastic week there and are wishing we could go back already. We arrived to find the house to be even better than the pictures and were totally impressed with how far the owners, Leah & Nathaniel, go to make you feel right at home.
The house is stocked with everything you need to have a great vacation, all you have to bring is yourselves and some groceries!! We made good use of the provided bikes, kayaks , paddle boards and especially the gorgeous pool where we spent the majority of our time.
The house is located in a very nice quiet neighborhood with lots of privacy but there are ample great restaurants and shopping close by .If you are looking for a little excitement Key West is only a 20 minute drive away and well worth checking out.
Be sure to have coffee up on the Widows Walk and watch the sunrise and don’t forget to feed the fish off the end of the pier! (We got some great underwater video while doing this)
We highly recommend you choose Bamboo Palms for your Florida Keys vacation , you will NOT be disappointed !!
A wonderful time was had by all and Bamboo Palms had everything needed to make sure of it. There were 12 of us and Leah has taken care of every single detail. She's even close by if you can think of something you need that she hasn't already thought of. From a well equiped kitchen to more towels and beach towels than I've ever seen...to laundry detergent, dishwashing detergent, and a key lime pie that practically no one supplies. The house, grounds and pool are beautiful. We all had a great time...fishing, lobstering, kayaking, swimming and just hanging out. It truly was one of our best vacations yet. Thanks for the memories.
We started out planning our trip for our daughters 21st birthday to Key West. It turned out to be a birthday/family reunion. There were 8 in our party, age 21 to 77, and the consensus is Home! All agreed that it felt like Home. The pictures reflect the property but, we know pictures just don't do justice. Leah has made an incredible paradise for people to have a wonderful vacation. The grounds reflect her hard work to show the beauty of the Keys.
Lots of fun in the kayaks. Plenty of beach towels, no need to waste the packing space. The pool is awesome, along with the hot tub. All the kitchen amenities that you could need. The BEDS are so comfortable. Every one slept very well. Lots of room for a big family. Gorgeous sunrises from all decks.
Bamboo Palms is close to Key West which makes it the ideal place to stay. Very private and relaxing. Already talking about going back. Next time we want to stay for two weeks. LOTS to do and see.
