About Tom Harty Manager.

My husband and I are Canadians living in Bermuda. Our love for travel has contributed to our purchasing of two vacation rentals (one in Brazil and one in Italy).

Tom Harty Manager. purchased this apartment in 2011

Why Tom Harty Manager. chose Vibo Valentia

Italy is probably my favorite country in the world. The old world charm, the history, the wine, the people -- it is a place that I hope one day we can spend more time in.

Our place in Southern Italy (Calabria) demonstrates all that Italy has to offer. It is not in a big busy city like Rome but rather a small seaside town (Pizzo) where the heart of Italy shines. The cities close to our place all offer different activities and history -- Pizzo, Tropea, Vibo -- all different yet all the same Italian charm. Close enough to head to Sicily for an overnight trip which is amazing in itself.

What makes this apartment unique

Our apartment is your home away from home. It has two bedrooms, large bathroom, washing machine and two big balconies with incredible views. Our apartment overlooks the swimming pool and at the same time being the penthouse apartment is quiet away from the noise.

Sitting on one of the balconies with a glass of local wine watching the sunset with Stromboli (an active volcano) in clear view is my opinion of a perfect evening.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Hi, the apartment was great. We enjoyed it immensely. It had everything we needed and we were quite comfortable. Some suggestions may be to supply a welcome pack that is charged to the tenant, which contains water, milk, bread etc since it is a fair walk to the shops. Overall the apartment was great. We loved it an will recommend it to family and friends.

We stayed here from 30 March to 15 April.

This time of year the weather can be a little tricky. It was still warm enough to enjoy the roof top terrace playing cards eating excellent bread, cheese, meats and wine from the local market. The small town of Pizzo is perfect Italy. We took a tour and would highly recommend you do as well. So much history in this little town and the Tartufo is fantastic. So many places to eat and enjoy the piazza.

We did a trip to Sicily that was incredible. Next time we go we plan to maybe take a day or two there to explore. We also spent a weekend in Roma. Left in the am and stopped in Pompeii for a tour, had something to eat and then carried on to Roma. This involves some driving on your part but it is totally worth it.

The Apartment in Pizzo has everything you need and is very cozy and comfortable. On site laundry is perfect. We really enjoyed the new pergola on the terrace and spent many hours relaxing and enjoying the fantastic views. The sunset with a glass of wine and the one you love is breathtaking!

The management was so helpful and answered all of our questions quickly. They provided us with info on where to go, what kind of hours places would be open, paths to take to get downtown if we didn't want to drive.

We will be back for sure and would like to thank the management and owners for such a great place to stay and experience Italy in the purest fashion.

Wonderful holiday

  • 5 of 5

Our vacation didn't get off to the best of starts as one of our suticases was in Rome, whilst we were at Lamezia Terme. Anyway, the trouble with the baggage was soon forgotten once we arrived at the resort. We were greeted by Tom, who was very helpful, giving us a quick tour of the apartment along with some suggestions of where to go.

The apartment was very clean and as described online. We loved the spacious balcony overlooking the pool and in the distance the sea, then there was roof terrace. Here was even more space with a BBQ and dining area. We ate here a few nights during our stay.

The village of Pizzo is very nice, the people are friendly and there are plenty of restaurants and bars in the Piazza. Our favourite restaurant was 'Il Cappero Rosso', really great food and friendly service. One thing to bear in mind, the walk into Pizzo is all downhill, it takes about 10 minutes. The walk back is a different story though, we always took the Tuk-Tuk back to the apartment as this was easier with the 5 of us. Our youngest was 5 years old and the walk back was too much for him, also the case for elderly or less mobile persons. Anyway, the kids loved the Tuk-Tuk so that was never an issue. Cost is €10, which is quite expensive but you can walk it too!

Another restaurant to visit is 'Go', this is about 3km's up the hillside (turn right as you come out of the apartment). The food here is delicious and the views are breathtaking.

There are very nice beaches in Pizzo and all along the coast to Tropea. Tropea is stunning, crystal clear water where the sea temperature is also warm. Be aware though, the beach in Tropea gets very busy, especially in August. Back along the coast in the direction of Pizzo is the beach of Zambrone, you need to park by the station and walk down a steep set of steps, but trust me, the walk is worth it. This is also a very popular beach and when you get there you'll see exactly why!

We also had a day boat trip to Stombolli, we stopped at 2 islands. It was a very long day but it was an experience. Maybe a bit costly for what you get but when do you get to visit an active volcano?

All in all though we had a great vacation and would definitely recommend staying in Pizzo as location wise it is perfect and the complex is also very modern and clean. We never struggled to find a place by the pool and the neighbours (Austin & Joanne own their apartment) were also really friendly. Relaxing time had by all.

For my first time to the Amalfi Coast or Italy for that matter I couldn't think of a better place to stay. Everything was incredible, right from my arrival, to the friendliness and helpfulness of the Property Manager, to the penthouse itself. The property was as exactly as described in regards to the amenities and cleanliness, but the view from both patios cannot quite be put into words, as spectacular doesn't quite do it justice! Also a plus was the location of this resort, as it was more than convenient. The quick 30 min drive from Lamezia Terme was quick and easy, as the location is prime. On top of the many conveniences, such as shopping, bars, restaurants, groceries, or beaches which can be easily accessed by foot, other breathtaking cities such as Tropea and Capo Vaticano are only short distances by car, with many stunning views along the way. All in all my stay in Pizzo was remarkable, and I would highly recommend this property to both family and friends. I will most definitely return.

Everything you could want

  • 5 of 5

While aiming for more of a relaxative rather than touristy sightseeing vacation, staying here managed to fulfill both in one go! The apartment is fully equipped for staying at the pool, eating on the patio, or sunning on the roof against a gorgeous backdrop of sea and coast. The place was clean and new, exactly as the pictures portray. If driving, it's also very easy to get to Vibo Valentia and Tropea. Wish I stayed longer and would definitely consider going back!

Calabria is located in the south west of Italy (the toe of the Italian boot) It deserves with its unbelievably rich history and culture to be more known than it is today. The nature, people, history and the traditions are what make Calabria what it is.

Holidays in the region of Calabria offer a variety of different landscapes, from the stunning coastal areas, with craggy cliffs set against the brilliant blue seas, to the rugged mountainous inland, dotted with traditional villages, and even a small ski area.

Pizzo is a beautiful town just a few minutes’ drive from the apartment, famous for its Chiesa di Piedigrotta, a church completely carved out of the tufo rock near the beach. This Calabrian town is also famous for its tartufo, a special delicious kind of ice cream celebrated with a festival in Pizzo every August.

A visit to a renowned ice cream parlour, Enrico's, situated in Marinella, is a must for all ice cream lovers.
