Nestled in the trees, and just one mile from the heart of Portland, our beautiful NW style, mid-century home awaits you. It has an elevated, hillside location with fenced, lush landscaped yard and an outdoor gazebo including barbeque, power, and a nice picnic area with nothing less than a view of the Willamette River and Mt. Hood through the trees. You can sip a drink as you lounge on the mahogany patio furniture while your hubby uses the shady gazebo to cook your Bar-B-Que. The yard has manicured grass perfect for little kids and an elevated garden area with birdhouses in nearly every tree. We have a flat, fenced patio where kids can play with ride-on toys.
You can choose to relax inside and watch the rainfall surround you while you remain dry inside our large sun-lit solarium room. Enjoy the view over a cup of coffee from either location and listen to the sound of the native birds flying eye level from our scenic, perched living room with huge, bright windows overlooking the 100-year old trees and Willamette River below. Our Portland home has a huge living area with an oversized couch, pullout sofa and HD, flat screen TV with HBO. Very high speed internet Wi-Fi to make your Skype video calls, and a dining table that seats 8. This West Hills home has plenty of off street parking and is all on one level- bedrooms, kitchen, solarium, laundry, front room to yard, so it is perfect for grandparents and kids.
Our home has the living space effect going on, where the kids can watch TV in the living room while you wait on them hand and foot from the kitchen and still view one another! The kitchen is updated and has all the conveniences of your home! Enjoy our fully stocked kitchen complete with everything you need for preparing meals (banana pancakes, zesty spaghetti, and homemade chocolate chip cookies). Mix up your perfect smoothie in the Kitchen Aid blender. Take advantage of the new appliances and additional bar sitting area for three. The large laundry room has and changing table for the baby, an oversized sink, new HE front loading washer and dryer.
We are located in the center of the Terwilliger Parkway so there are miles of strolling along the most scenic running path in Portland. There is a children's park is right around the corner, and we have a stroller to escort your bundle of joy to what seems like a private hillside play area. Our neighborhood is surrounded by an urban forest. A Marquam trailhead is just a block away where you can get lost in in the wonder of seeing a native old growth Hemlock stand (dates before Lewis and Clark), or follow the comforting sounds of Downy Woodpeckers, and Spotted Towhees (ask for our map).
Just a mile or so away are some of the best eats in town! We are centrally located between all of Portland’s Farmer's Markets, and lots of coffee shops to choose from and have a number of fabulous local bakeries. Check out Hillsdale’s epicurean food truck park for something special. Elephant’s Deli, down the hill, has freshly made, family sized meals, comfort food casseroles, hippie pizza, luscious biscuits, as well as decadent soups, and unique salads. Place their cuisine in our dishes, and your family will think you cooked it!
Did I mention our home is very kid friendly: toys, crib, high chair, pac-n-play, baby cradle swing, a bouncy chair, and we welcome all your family even your precious pets! We live in a very peaceful neighborhood and have quiet hours starting at 9 p.m.. Sorry, absolutely no parties allowed.

Though we are very close to City Center and have room for large groups, we are located in a very quiet neighborhood (9pm quiet hours). There are absolutely no parties, or loud gatherings allowed at the house. We love our neighbors and diligently work to continue to be an asset to our community.
The downstairs area at the Terwilliger House is not available. Since we are kid friendly, there is no smoking on property.

We stayed here for 5 days with 3 little kids from ages 3-9. the kids loved the toys and were kept busy with all the fun things to do at the house. I really appreciate having such a kid friendly home away from home.
The house was great with everything you would expect to have available and more. After previous discussions with the owner, we arranged to host a dinner gathering for a group of friends and coworkers who were all attending a Trade Show in Portland. As a VRBO Owner of my own rental in MT, I know how important it is the insure clear communications between owner and guest.
The owners went well beyond what would be expected, into the area of beyond expectations. The outdoor fire pit was a big hit for those individuals who smoked, because it was rather cold. it actually became an outdoor meeting place for quite a few guests.
The kitchen is well appointed and provided what I needed to prep and cook for 14 total guests. The house was great for the 5 that actually stayed the entire 5 nights with three large bedrooms. The fireplace was also a hit with many who congregated in the living room to discuss the days events at the Trade Show.
If I we ever to need a venue in Portland for a similar event, I would certainly pick this wonderful location.
My husband and I rented the Terwilliger house as a place to unwind after a Portland conference and to spend time with local family. This house couldn't have been better! I was looking for a place that was "kid friendly" for my 4 & 7 year old nephews. Not only did they have a kids bedroom but also a special playroom with books, games, and toys. Chris even emailed me to learn the ages of the kids so they could leave out just the right playthings. The rest of the house was comfortable for the adults but not worrisome when the kids got rough and tumbly (boys). I usually don't sleep well when travelling but the beds were so comfortable I slept soundly every night. Plus it was very quiet. The kitchen was well equipped, the trees and views made us feel like we were outdoors even when we were warm and snug inside. We didn't do a great deal in the local area preferring to "hang out" with family we don't often see, this place was perfect for that. When we did go out this place was close to everything. A great "Pied a terre" any time we visit Portland!
No confusion when arriving, the owner presents all info in advance to have a good idea of where to go, how to get in, and what is all around you. Having two separate showers that can actually run simultaneously was a big plus for a business team of 5 people.
Mae & Chris were very nice. They're very thoughtful. Even gave my Dad a birthday present which added a special touch to our stay at the Terwilleger house. The free family fare to the tram was a plus. We enjoyed our stay & it suited our needs for our family get together. Definitely looking forward for our next family reunion & this house is a perfect place for it😃
Clean, functional, and well-equipped, the Terwilliger House makes for a very pleasant and comfortable stay and is great place for the kids---toys, trams, and "reindeer" in the back yard.
The house is tucked away in the hills overlooking Portland, but the city's attractions are near to hand. The highlight for most of our group was the aerial tram ride to the waterfront and a day spent hopping on and off Portland's excellent trolley service.
The owners are thoughtful and were extremely helpful during our stay.
One mile to Downtown. Bike along Terwilliger Blvd to City Center events. Walking distance to aerial tram, and ohsu hospital. Great house for family gatherings, Hood to Coast team, or girls getaway.
