The Natural Paradise house is very beautiful, the view from the deck is amaizing and and the whole house is very comfortable, but more than this the family is very special they made of our trip the best we have lived and joseph is very kind and knowledgeable, he is an exelent guide, we had a lot of fun with he.
I recommend it.
We wanted to do a home-stay to get a true feel for the Costa Rican culture. I can't imagine staying in a better home, with a better family. The food was absolutely delicious, and it was particularly exciting to do a cooking lesson with them. They toured us through their farm (beautiful!), took us repelling down waterfalls and swimming in beautiful clean rivers, they even invited us to join them in a family celebration as one of the daughters was soon to be married. It warmed my heart to see how close the large family was, they spent so much time together. I honestly didn't want to leave. It was my favourite part of the trip. The home was clean, the food was delicious, the view was incredible and the family was kind and warm. Thank you for inviting us into your home. I can't wait to come back!
Our family of 7 (children ages 8-17) stayed here over the holiday and had a wonderful time. While wifi is available at times, we didn't use it that much. We loved waking up to a gorgeous view right off of the deck with numerous hummingbirds floating nearby as we read or ate. The family is wonderful. The food was perfect. The hikes were fun and educational. We also went ziplining and horseback riding, amazing!! Please note that this is a true Costa Rican experience. it isn't a five star hotel, nor a tourist packed city. The roads are dirt with lots of holes. The amenities are simple, true to the culture. We wanted to immerse our family in the culture and we did. Some suggestions: Bring card games, we played them a lot in the evenings since it gets dark at 6:00. Bring boots or extra sneakers. It was muddy some days, even in the dry season. The TV didn't work, but not a big deal to us.
This was the third place we stayed out of four on our Costa Rican vacation. The weather is cooler than on the coasts, we felt we should have brought more people, the place is large and very comfortable, everything you would need. The views are spectacular! Our stay included breakfast and these we delivered on time and were great. We were also invited for a family meal that was out of this world. This family is very friendly and will go out of their way to accommodate their guests needs. They offer several packages (we were only able to do the farm tour, great). We would recommend writing a explanation of the packages so guest could look them over at their leisure, may inspire more bookings, or even send your future guests an email with these activities so they can be arranged in advance.
My husband and I had a great experience here and if we go back to Costa Rica would like to stay again.
Our destination was Guayabo National Monument, so we were looking for a two night stay in a quiet, rustic and restful place. This was idea for us: 2 residents and 2 perpetual snowbirds to Costa Rica. This was a great place to just unwind and enjoy nature. The food was excellent and the family so friendly. The beds were comfortable! We could easily have stayed longer. The deck is perfect for birding without the usual hiking effort! We will return. The only thing keeping us from giving the place an excellent rating is the lack of screens on the windows.
Our stay here was such a wonderful experience. The house is roomy and comfortable, the view from the deck is stunning, and Jose and his family are so friendly and helpful. Our family stayed at Jose’s house for about 10 days in Sept 2015 and there was never a dull moment; Always something to do. Jose set up activities for us, such as horseback riding, a trip on the Pejebaye River, and canyoneering which is an adrenaline-charged rappelling descent down the face of several waterfalls!
The house is reached by descending a steep (intimidating) road/driveway, but don’t let that put you off; the roads are gravel (not mud) and some neighbors use only 2wd sedans to go in and out. With a 4wd there will be no problem. The property is surrounded by beautiful forest on all sides so there’s no shortage of bugs and critters (arachnophobes beware) but the upside is you’re surrounded by an explosion of wildlife. You can hike the trails on the property or pass through Jose’s farm to secluded swimming in a nearby stream. There are so many birds; hawks, woodpeckers, toucans, oropendola, hummingbirds, finches, buzzards, egrets, owls, and you can see most of these from the comfortable stone deck that overlooks Jose’s farm and the forests. If you have a passion for bird-watching, Jose has a remarkable knowledge of the local species and can explain the detailed characteristics that set them apart from one another. He’s a pro.
Breakfast was included with the rooms, so you will get a chance to meet Jose’s family when they bring the food each morning. The food is delicious and they are so much fun to have around. We felt very fortunate to get to know them and their energetic children, and other neighbors as well.
We definitely want to go back someday. Altogether, the house, the location, Jose’s family and the neighbors make for a complete vacation package. Don’t miss this opportunity to make new friends and see some of the best Costa Rica has to offer.
This review is much overdue; we spent 6 glorious months in the quaint, welcoming community that this house is in. Jose's entire family is wonderful, and they did everything they could to make our stay possible and amazing. We traveled around the country after our stay here, to many typical "tourist" destinations, and nothing compared to being at this home. The location is amazing, though the lane down to the house is a little rough sometimes. It is off the main road (a 10-minute walk) and the view is over a green valley complete with toucans, parrots, and hummingbirds galore. It is absolutely peaceful and gorgeous.
When we had guests, we had the family take us on their adventure tours. Their ziplining tour was quite an adventure with many lines and hanging bridges. Sergio's horseback riding tour was excellent; we went through pasture, forest, and along the beautiful mountain roads. For a break, we stopped for a river swim. Jose can set you up with virtually any tour you might want.
If you are interested in a "Tican" experience, this would be it. The house is more of a typical style, Jose's mother (and sisters) are fantastic cooks, and they are all willing to teach you about the natural history, and culture of the area.
We were able to get around on the bus well, but if you are there for a short time, I would recommend a car. There are nearby volcanoes, an archaeology museum, a dairy for you to tour the local Turrialba cheese-making scene, a small serpenatarium (Parque Viborana) with an extremely knowledgeable host, but they all require a bit of a drive from the Finca.
My children, then 10 and 8, were completely welcomed as well, and they had a great experience. The community is incredibly safe and there are many paths, creeks, and trees on the Finca for them to explore.
The whole family can't wait to return.
In Natural Paradise you will have a magnificent experience, with the nature around, a lot of birds, and spectacular views, the best white water rafting and enjoying our canyoning tour in our privated canyon.
