It doesn't get any better than this, built on solid rock just out of reach of the breaking surf and just a one minute walk to a white sandy beach... this iconic kiwi bach has braved the elements since the 1940s. Little has changed, the view is still breath-taking, the interior is still very 'bachy' - albeit with a few more modern conveniences. A trip to the loo is still a dash down the garden path although this is now a flush toilet. This is the great kiwi bach experience from yesteryear. With no neighbours looking in, you have total privacy... though you may have to share the rocky shore line with the occasional seal or penguin.
Free WIFI broadband. Bach telephone for local and incoming calls (no mobile coverage)
Located just 15 mins north of Punakaiki... or 30 mins south of Westport.
Westport is your nearest place to buy groceries and petrol - stock up before you arrive.

This is a unique place that delivers what it promises. Loved it. Did I mention I loved it?
If you're looking for "generic" luxury, this isn't for you. If you're looking for a unique, pleasant memory for the rest of your life, book now! Even having seen the photos on the website, which don't do it justice, we actually said aloud: "Wow". Unless you sleep on a boat, this is about as close as you'll ever get to safely sleeping by the sea. A view from every room, even the toilet outside.
We loved our couple of days at the Woodpecker Bay Bach, it has definitely been a highlight of our South Island holiday. The Bach is so rustic and cosy, even though it rained most of the ime we were there it didn't matter at all. We even spotted a seal from the window! We can't wait to recommend this bach to people we know :)
What an amazing bach....very very special and very 'New Zealand'. You couldn't get any better, right on the waterfront and soooo relaxing - we loved every minute, thank you Daniel for sharing your bach with us all...
MERRY XMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR - we will definitely be back when we need to relax and revive again! :)
This Bach is "as good as it gets", I can not rate it highly enough. Thank you very much Daniel for sharing it. Its location is dramatic, charming and quaint. The bed is very comfortable. I didn't move for three days. Flagged the biking and just chilled out.
the location is absolutely superb....wonderfully wild. The view is marvellous, especially from the the bath. Even the outside loo is part of the original-kiwi-bach authenticity. but is a little hazardous at night.
