There is no cell phone reception which is challenging for some.....but great once you get used to it.
You can climb the ridge behind the lodge, with your phone, and enjoy panoramic views of the Wairarapa and get reception and the added bonus of a work out.
The river is refreshing to swim in over summer. And there is that lovely sound only a river can make.
Smells are fresh. Invigorating.
There are a couple of waterfalls to visit as well.
There are DOC tracks to walk, and we can pick you up and bring you back. 1 track goes to Holdsworth, the other comes out at the Waiohine Gorge, you can organise with me to be picked up, then enjoy the cafes before returning to the lodge.

Beautiful spring water out of the tap, the air smells invigorating, sounds of the river, and birds.
We enjoyed the Lodge at the French village a lot. It was exactly what we needed and as we expected. Our dogs loved playing with Susie's dogs which made their stay enjoyable too.
Great place to stay, plenty of room and really peaceful. Highly recommend.
Beutiful place and lovely house...very well equipped kitchen. Great place for dogs but would be great if could enclose the courtyard to stop dogs from running off.
We will definitely be back to stay.
