This secluded one of a kind Catskill Mountain log cabin is 2 hours from the George Washington Bridge. The fully furnished cabin is clean, cozy and airy and is a great place for a family to get away to. The newly renovated kitchen is big and open and perfect for group cooking and gathering. It features a Viking stove with indoor grill, ice cream maker, Meile dishwasher and 2 sinks. The cabin features a wood burning fireplace; dining table big enough for 10; an out of tune piano and six string acoustic guitar; a great collection of both adult and children's books and board games; wireless high speed internet access is available as well as a 36 inch flat screen TV with a DVD player; stereo with multi-disc CD player and iPod jack with indoor and/or outdoor speakers; and a covered front porch. Outside is a fire pit, a fantastic tire swing, a sledding hill in winter, a tree house and a big front lawn, perfect for a football game or snowball fight.
The cabin is surrounded by 20 acres of private, quiet, beautiful woods, full of deer, turkey, squirrels, owls and chipmunks. Take a quiet walk along our babbling Thorpe Creek to the swimming hole or hike up the creek to explore magnificent waterfalls.
In the area- explore hiking trails in the Catskill Mountains, visit Olana - the home of Hudson River artist Frederick Church, shop at nearby organic farm stands, go antiquing in Hudson, visit yards sales, and jump into a local auction. Skiers! We're a 20 minute drive from Windham, 30 minutes from Hunter. Go swimming, fishing, horseback riding, cross country skiing and after, visit local Irish pubs with nightly musical entertainment. This is a perfect place to spend some relaxed time with the ones you love.
Well behaved pets okay.
I am an art director, designer and entrepreneur.
I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, and spent much of my childhood far off the beaten track, in a cabin on a canal, without electricity or running water.
I've raised my family in NYC, and spending time at the cabin, off the grid, has given my children the best of both worlds.
Ellen and Matt Dudley purchased this cabin in 1999
We bought our cabin from the man who built it by hand. We've carefully added an amazing kitchen and an all-ply bathroom, making the cabin functional, enjoyable and beautiful, without diminishing the rustic simplicity.
The cabin is warm in the winter, and cool in the summer months.
It sits on 5 cleared acres surrounded by 20 acres of woods. We love having complete seclusion, outdoor showers, campfires and access to nature.
The swimming hole is magical and the creek bordering the property affords hours of exploration.
Wildlife is happy and welcomed on our property. We have deer, turkeys, fox, groundhogs, tiny orange salamanders, hummingbirds, owls and geese. We hear the coyotes at night in the summer, but have never seen them.
The cabin was in a remote location away from all the noise of city and town which means city folks like us finally got the opportunity to unwind from the daily craze of things like the subway system or being stuck in rush hour traffic. Everything that we needed for a good two nights was provided in the cabin- very neat, spacious , nothing inside was missing. The families cant complain ; we reccommend this cabin to anyone wishing to escape a hectic schedule.
My family and I loved staying at the Dudley's gorgeous cabin. From the swimming hole to the cozy furnishings and fantastic book and game collection - this cabin in the woods was the perfect getaway. Thank you so much for opening your lovely home to our family!
I enjoyed this wonderful place with my husband and some friends plus two doggies. We had a blast! The house is incredibly beautiful, tastefully decorated, big and comfy. The beds are extremely comfortable, which was very important since some of us have back problems. It is surrounded by trees, it feels so peaceful and quiet! We went hiking nearby and we saw a beautiful cascade and a lake...it was great. Ellen is very nice, accommodating and easy to deal with. I recommend this place to everyone!! You won't be disappointed!
The log cabin was rustic, had a lot of charm and was clean. Our original plans were to ski at Windham mountain that was about 12 miles away, unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate. The cabin had some board games we enjoyed and a great fire pit outside where we made s'mores one night after dinner. I would recommend this cabin if you want a nice quiet stay in the woods. The owner Ellen was a pleasure to work with.
The cabin absolutely exceeded my expectations; the pictures on the website simply don't do it justice. The whole house has a great cabin-in-the woods feeling, and is secluded enough to ensure privacy without being too remote. Great hiking is only a short drive away. The amenities were fantastic; the house is very clean and already stocked with spices of all kinds, and some baking supplies. The kitchen is large with a fantastic Viking stove, and there is plenty of seating.
There is an open space in the yard for some great star gazing on a clear night. We also had a great time building fires outside. The treehouse that appears in the pictures seems to have been taken down, but that didn't detract at all from our weekend. There were a lot of activities for us in the house and the surrounding area.
I can't recommend this place highly enough. It was easy to book, the owner Ellen Dudley is extremely helpful and easy to get in touch with, and we had a fantastic weekend!
Our children and pets had a great time hiking and exploring while my wife and I could relax. The cable, wifi and well appointed kitchen added to the comforts without detracting from the rustic feel of the backwoods cabin experience. A true gem!
