Bedrooms 3
Space 1,076 sq. ft.
Property type farmhouse
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

Lugnez, Val Lumnezia (Graubünden) is an insider tip. Away from the big hustle and bustle you can enjoy peace and nature. The fairy-tale house with garden, patio and balcony is on the border of the hamlet at S. Andriu in Lumbrein. The gently restored house with 8 beds, three bedrooms, one small and one large living room and an eat-in kitchen, new bathroom is also large enough for two families or for a holiday with friends. The farmhouse offers a comfortable home for guests. In about 10 minutes drive you can reach Vella, the family ski area. The bathing lake in Davos Munts is an oasis for young and old. The villages in Lumnezia have preserved their charm. It is a great spot for sports enthusiasts such as hikers, bikers, swimmers and dreamers.

From Ilanz driving towards Vrin it takes about 20 minutes to reach S. Andriu. Lugnez is a sunny valley with pretty villages and a familial ski resort in Vella, which is connected to Obersaxen. The bathing lake in Vattiz can be reached in about 10 minutes drive. The bus rides several times every day from Ilanz to Vrin, the ski area and also the bathing lake are reachable without a private car. Shopping options are there in Lumbrein in two grocery stores.

Vrin, known for the architecture of Gion A. Caminada, is the nearest village; the church is also worth a visit apart from the architecturally impressive buildings of the indigenous architect! The bakery in Vrin is popular for homemade bread and other goodies.

The medieval tower of Lumbrein is inhabited, you may admire it from the outside. Vella is known for the parish, which was on the road to Unterlugnez in the Middle Ages.

Classic Farmhouse, Stunning Views, Modern Comfort

  • 5 of 5

We had a really enjoyable two weeks in this traditional Swiss farmhouse. The description does not do the house justice. The Val Lumnezia is breath-taking, the house is perched on the side of the mountain overlooking a village and up (and up) to peaks above covered in snow - at least in September. It's really just beautiful.

We enjoyed sitting in the sun each morning for coffee watching the mountains change as the light shifted. There are various trails from the house, going up the mountain, to the valley below and up the other side - all beautiful. The house is also well-situated it's easy to get to the market, surrounding towns, to Vals or further afield to other areas (including Maienfeld - for amazing Pinot Noir).

The house is comfortable, a very useful kitchen - we prepared many meals, comfortable beds and a nice table in the front room with (again) a stunning view. A couple low ceilings are the only small negative, but not a big issue (I'm 192cm).

This is a place I'd recommend to friends and family, and look forward to returning again and again.

A Bit of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

From our first contact with Sonja to our check-out out with her parents, we couldn't have had a better experience. The house, set on the edge of a steep hill overlooking a valley with a small village below, was perfect. It was a family home for several generations and pictures on the walls showed some of those who had lived there in the past. We had some rainy days but never lacked for something to do. We were three generations from 2 to 72 and we were all in love with the Place. On a particularly cold evening, Sonja 's father appeared to show us how to use the big stone fireplace. We hiked, swam in a small lake 10 minutes from the house, took a train ride up toward Andermatt in search of snow (requested by our 6 year old grandson who wanted to make snowballs!). While hiking, we saw a farmer and his daughter rounding up the cows with their dogs responding to whistles, made fondue, read Heidi, saw the starry, starry sky, and were sorry when the week was over. Thank you for sharing your wonderful house.

Alpine Getaway

  • 4 of 5

We were very please to find the chalet to be a truly authentic and quaint house tucked away in a quiet hamlet of only 6 houses and a chapel. The environment is quiet and peaceful, except for the sound of cow bells and church bells. The building itself is over 120 years old but has been renovated and equipped with modern conveniences without destroying the charm of the original features (including the functional wood-burning stone stove in the living room used for cold nights). The view out of the chalet windows was of breathtaking sceneries: alps, snow capped mountains and scattered villages in the valley. The bedrooms were large and the beds and duvets very comfortable. There was easy access and plenty of walking paths to alp meadows, forests and villages. Easy access in the neighbouring village of Lumbrein (2.5 km) to a couple of restaurants, 2 grocery stores and a dairy/cheese producer who produces absolutely incredible butter from the milk of the local cows. The kind owners were very helpful and lived conveniently close by so they could address any needs we had. We would gladly make it a regular destination on our holiday calendar. Viewing tip: the tiny chapel has an incredible interior that is not to be missed. Driving Tip: Plan extra time for getting to the chalet if you are unfamiliar with driving on the narrower, winding, alpine roads.

Grandiose Umgebung und häuslicher Comfort

  • 4 of 5

  • 5 of 5

Quo vadis?

  • 5 of 5

Nun, wie soll man hier bewerten?

Uns fallen nur ein grosses Dankeschön ein.

Vielen Dank liebe Familie Coray- Capaul!

Car: not necessary

S. Andriu is a small hamlet of Lumbrein in Lugnez. Val Lumnezia is a side valley in Bündner Oberland. Ski touring, skiing, snowboarding, cycling and hiking are just as popular as the good food. There is no big hustle and bustle in Lugnez, but just peace and relaxation as well as the necessary and modern infrastructure which is needed in a resort like this in the Alps. Very beautiful ancient architecture and interesting churches make it a complete package.

Ski: The ski resort with the 4-summit-adventure and 120 km of ski slopes: Fascinating mountain landscapes, unique panoramic views, fantastic slopes for experts and varied routes for beginners. And not less than twenty (!) bars and restaurants with connectivity to the slopes invite you to hang around.

Sun lovers and sports fans come here at their own expense. Special offers for children such as child lifts, ski school and family ski pass also make the ski resort very interesting for families.
