Very close to the Arthur Ravenel Bridge to the Charleston Downtown Historic District, the Visitor Center, local beaches, and walking distance to famous planned I'on neighborhood.

The house is in Scanlonville / Remley's Point on a quiet dead end street. This is a very old Historic neighborhood - demographically and ethnically diverse and deeply rooted in the Gullah-Geechie culture.... settled after the Civil War. If you are uncomfortable with diversity, then you don't want to rent here. Our 5th Avenue was a prime stop on the famous Chitlin Circuit. Local homes can be shacks or Mega Million dollar mansions. We have it all !

This neighborhood is laced with marshes, tidal creeks, and deep water, plus sunset views of the Charleston Ravenel Bridge. There are 3 public waterfront docks close by.

Sit under the fans on the back screened porch. Have your pick of the Dual Master King Suites opening to the decks, and overlooking the yard and pool. There are sets of seating all around the porches, decks, and screened porch… chair groupings, rocking chairs, gliders, tables.

We have lived in this neighborhood ourselves for 18 years! ...and when the opportunity came available to own a 2nd home also....we were thrilled. We have enjoyed improving the property, and decorating and landscaping it, and offering it now as a family style rental.

What makes this house unique

This eclectic and interesting neighborhood and its waterfront docks, plus the closeness to Historic downtown Charleston and the Beach, makes this a perfect base for visitors. For any groups in town for a wedding, or an event, or just a vacation .....this is a great spot. The in ground pool is a wonderful addition for visitors during warmer months.

Beautiful home in a great location

We are a group of “Red Cup” ladies that travel every year together. This was our first trip to Charleston and found it to be welcoming. We really enjoy the house we rented (5 stars). It is in a very good neighborhood that is close to downtown (10 mins) and the Outlets (17 mins). The rooms are very spacious and clean. The beds where very comfortable and we had plenty of space. The screened in porch was a plus, especially in the evenings. They had almost every accessory you could want and everything was up to date. Every room had it’s own TV, which we loved, once we figured out how to use the remote, lol. They have a swimming, which looks much larger in the pictures, that flooded along with the whole back yard after a couple of nights of hard rain. George had to place the pool out of service, so we couldn’t use the pool the last two days of our vacation 😞?.

Although George was very quick to respond to fix any problem, he was so quick, he almost walked in on one of the ladies about to take a shower. That made us very uncomfortable, it would have been nice to receive a call or text to let us know he was on his way, instead of just showing up. Every home we ever rented, we always received a courtesy call, informing us someone would be coming by. Even though we let him in the house, he didn’t wait to be escorted to the bedroom, he just continued walking to the back room until he was told to stop until we made sure the room was clear. For the future, I would recommend that someone text or call to say when someone is on the way or provide a appropriate time when someone would be by. Other than that particular situation, we had a wonderful time at the home and in Charleston!

Glad you enjoyed the screened porch and many amenities. Due to a torrential thunderstorm after a week of steady rain, the pool had to be shocked and rebalanced and could not be used until the water was again safe. Exceeding guest expectations is our goal. George acted swiftly to respond to your maintenance request. He failed to communicate that he would be there immediately. We apologize for your inconvenience and discomfort. Extremely well equipped residence, nice pool, centrally located in a residential neighborhood.

CHARLESTON far exceeded our expectations; there was lots to do at reasonable prices, no shortage of good food, recreational activities, and bundles of history, The streets, unlike California's were in outstanding condition, the medians and curb areas were kept clean, gas was very affordable, graffiti was almost non-existent, and street people were very few and far between.

On the flip side, the humidity and heat were sniffling, mosquitoes were abundant, and hurricanes are a quasi normal experience, although we didn't experience any. That being said, I'd thoroughly enjoy living there.

As for the house, it was great, but the immediate neighborhood wasn't. For example, we observed one nearby residence with an abandoned toilet in the front yard, and many other homes were in dire need of upkeep. We never felt threatened or unsafe however.

Would we stay in the same house again? Probably not, as we'd most likely opt for a house at the beach, such as Folley Beach or Isle of Palms.

I'd also like to add the property owners were easy to work with, and provided everything touted in their advertisement. In fact, I can't say enough good things about them.

I hope this brief review is proves to be useful, and don't miss the opportunity to visit CHARLESTON.

Owner's Response: Thank you for this detailed review, and thorough summary, of how our Southern locale is very different from a California life. Summer heat and humidity in Charleston is a stark contrast to California breezes and cool nights. I also empathize with your culture shock. This very old, historic, Gullah neighborhood was founded by freeman in the 1800's, during the same time that California was achieving Statehood during the era of the Gold Rush. We are lucky to own in this old settlement, without the oversight, monitoring, rules, and restrictions that comes along with an HOA (Home Owners Association) from a newer development. Due to the current trend of investors purchasing and remodeling these outdated homes, there can be construction and remodeling debris left on lawns and on the street, awaiting the weekly town trash removal. Lack of an HOA allows for a diversity of homeownership styles, plus allows this property to be a LEGAL RENTAL. The range of economic contrasts within this 7 block plated area is astounding. Some homes are clearly run down and lack basic conveniences and amenities often taken for granted, yet other homes are valued at $4 million or more. Values rise sharply in the homes with water access or close to the river, and lessen near the main road. Some of our neighbors struggle economically; some property neglect attests to their personal daily challenges. From our rental profits we donate annually to the Civic Club to aid our less fortunate nearby neighbors. We hope that our future guests select this house for the wonderful convenience of easy access to all the history, experiences and food of Downtown Charleston and the surrounding area. The beach is a quick 6 miles away for visitors who prefer sand and ocean, and summertime breezes. We appreciated your stamp of approval on ourselves, and on our honesty of descriptions and advertising.

The property is beautiful and the house was great. There were 10 of us...my children, spouses and grandchildren plus 3 dogs. The kitchen is well stocked and we cooked dinner every night. The location is close to Charleston and the beach. It was a very hot week so we only used the pool in the morning and later in the day.

Trust House

We had a group of 11 women staying at the Trust House for a fun weekend away. We were greeted by George who was very welcoming and showed us where everything was. The house was stocked with all of the utensils we needed to cook and enjoy ourselves. The pool and house are both gorgeous - everything was clean. Spacious bedrooms great for families or groups of adults. I would love to return to the Trust House in the future! 5/5!

From the moment we opened the door it felt like home!

Eight high school friends celebrating our 75th birthday year together—it was the perfect spot. Everyone had private space and the living areas accommodated our whole group very nicely. Very clean and well appointed. We had almost instant attention from the owner when requested. Our only regret is that the weather kept us from enjoying the very inviting back porch and pool area. Thanks George and Laurie for providing a place for our memorable birthday celebration.
