Lakeside sleeps 22 people, if you visit our site at VacationCountryRentals dot com you will see all our properties. We can house more with additional properties.
We have added a basketball court with future plans for a swimming pool.
The new event hall is ready for weddings, reunions or corporate events.
Lakeside has been remodeled from top to bottom, new flooring, paint, decks, dock...even door knobs, fans and kitchen back-splash tile.
The huge kitchen has plenty of room for all your guest. It has 2 refrigerators (one in the large pantry) for your convenience. We also have local catering available for those nights you don't want to cook. Ask for details in advance.
The huge 28' x 24' lower deck overlooks the water and has a fire-pit in the middle of it for those chilly evenings or balmy night fire.
The light show at night can be impressive, from the lighted bridge to the 'over the water' deck with lighting underneath. Of course, if you prefer star gazing, they can all be shut down by the switches located around the property with advanced notice.
The massive water side wrap around porch is a great place to enjoy a relaxing time with family and friends or a meal while watching the sunset with family members.
Lakeside faces west which offers amazing sunsets, the added bonus is the shade that is available around the home.
The front Gazebo is a great place to getaway from the crowds for a little "me" time. It is a private and quiet area. In the spring it is loaded with blooming Azaleas and flowering Red Buds as well as Dogwoods.
The home has substantial parking for 10-12 vehicles with a little strategic parking. We can arrange for additional parking with a little advance notice.
As you walk up to the home you notice the entry porch with table, chairs, fan and a gas grill with a large tank so you don't run out in the middle of grilling.
You walk through the entry door and see the game table, couch and end tables, this has become a favorite area with those that like a little space.
A few steps around the corner and the home opens into the huge kitchen, dining, living room areas. Kitchens are always "the place" to hang out and Lakesides is no different. The home has a tremendous flow to it.
The 7 bedrooms consist of 5 kings, one queen, and one large room with two sets of bunks (full bottoms, twin tops). The huge upper game-room has a large corner couch, additional couch a 47' flat screen with Netflix as well as 2 more sets of bunks. The game-room also has a full sized table and chairs, a small refrigerator, microwave and sink.
The home has 4 bathrooms, 3 are very large and could be considered small rooms by some standards. They are modern and clean.
The master bedroom is huge and has it's own sitting area, I don't want to say too much, but....I would do what I could to scoff it before anyone else does.lol
We are able to house up to 68 people on assigned bedding if all houses are rented. Only registered guests are allowed due to insurance requirements.
House limits are set for each property and are expected to be honored.
Lakeside comes with an assortment of boats. You are responsible for the safety of your guests and we ask you wear life jackets as required by law. The game warden has issued expensive tickets to violators.
Check with us for updated counts on boats.
Houston County lake was Texas' top bass lake prior to Lake Fork, it is still listed as a lake likely to produce a record Bass. It is one of the few lakes not fed by the Trinity River. Little Elkhart creek is its primary source water along with countless underground springs. The lake is considered a constant level lake and varies little compared with most lakes.
Spring Creek golf club is located less that 5 miles from the homes. Fishing guides are available with advance notice. Crockett has lots of antique shops and one of a kind restaurants. Please contact us for updated information.
Crockett and the surrounding towns have a multitude of festivals including The Lovefest in Lovelady, Christmas on the Square in Crockett, The Peanut Festival in Grapeland and Christmas in Kennard.
The Texas State railroad is a beautiful 45 minute country drive. It features old steam trains and travels to Rusk Texas.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions.
Brenda and I grew up in Massachusetts and moved to Texas back in 1978. We lived in Spring outside of Houston where we raised about half of our 5 kids. When Spring became Houston I couldn't take the urban sprawl and wanted to pull the plug.
We decided on Houston County Lake outside of Crockett because of the terrain and plentiful trees and wildlife.
It reminded us very much of New England.
We raised the last of our kids and they attended a small school in Latexo, a town of 200 or so just east of the lake.
The last child is now going through college and we have been fortunate to see the first 4 graduate U.T. Austin...with the 5th to follow.
As corny as it may sound, a very large part of the reason we pursued the vacation rental business is the enjoyment we get from watching and hearing about families re-bonding and kids catching their first or biggest fish.
It's a very rewarding business.
Mark & Brenda Copus purchased this house in 2014
Lakeside was the final piece of the puzzle that gave us ownership of the whole end of the cove. Unfortunately an illness forced our neighbors to sell and we were able help them move forward with the purchase. It was a win win for all.
We immediately moved forward and removed all flooring, removed walls etc and painted the home. It is a very large and spacious home and is our first handicap accessible home.
Lakeside sets on two lake lots with over 150' of lake frontage. The sprawling lake side deck allows for large groups to converge and enjoy outdoor meals or one of our many beautiful sunsets.
It is the perfect spot for families to get together and 're-bond'.
This property was amazing from beginning to end. The owners are very personable and easy to work with. Lots of information and responsive to emails. The house was more than described and beautiful inside. Had everything we needed, especially in the kitchen. The outside is stunning. We fished, kayaked, had a fire, BBQed. The one day of rain was fine too. We still fished in the covered dock and the inside of the house had more than enough room for games for everyone. Thank you Mark for an outstanding weekend. We will be back.
My mother was the inspiration for this family trip. As we have a large family, these properties were just what we needed. We wanted someplace large enough that would give individuals plenty of space (if needed) and plenty of opportunity to mingle. Lakeside and Henry’s Hideway had everything we needed and more. The fact that we had a large number of boats and lifejackets at our disposal was superb. Our family likes to cook, so we came in with a ton of food for our 4 day stay and having several fridges was really nice.
The kids enjoyed running up and down the different the stairways, rock path, and even back and forth to the basketball court. The basketball court gave the kids a wonderful change of scenery when they wanted a break from the water. My daughter even asked if we could buy the house – to me that means she REALLY enjoyed herself.
The porch on the front of Lakeside was a wonderful gathering space. Great for UNO, scrabble, snacking, meals or just sitting back and talking. The kids really enjoyed turning on the timer to activate the stream, so we adults enjoyed the babbling brook quite a bit.
I know my family has some great memories from our stay and I can’t wait to go back. I would highly recommend all of the properties through Vacation Country Rentals. Mark and his wife were a pleasure.
We booked the Lakeside house for a ladies' retreat and had an absolute blast. The owners, Mark and Brenda, were very responsive and helpful when I had questions. The property is stunning. There is plenty of comfortable seating in the house, a huge kitchen with all the amenities you need, and the outside decks are beautiful. Sitting on the decks overlooking the lake in the mornings and evenings was wonderful. The fire pit and kayaks were also great touches, and we got good use out of both. I highly recommend this house for a family reunion, retreat, or trips with several families. We are hoping to return next year.
Lakeside was just as described. Beautiful lake property with stunning grounds and lake views. Multi-level decks provide ample space to spread out and enjoy conversation/games. It was on the 'Hot' side on our visit, so we mostly stayed under the large porch with ceiling fans and plenty of tables/seating for our large family. We enjoyed kayaking in the early morning and sunsets in the evenings. The managers were very attentive at making sure we were comfortable and everything we needed. Great trip!
7 bedrooms. Lots of bunk beds for the kids. A massive kitchen with enough room to move around in. The porches ... you gotta see 'em to believe 'em! Great place; you'll never want to leave!
The property is beautiful and well-maintained. Nicely furnished. Loved having 2 refrigerators for such a large group. We had ten kids 13 and under and they enjoyed the kid-sized kayaks. They also liked the game room. The only negative was that the showers did not have the pressure I'm used to, but they got the job done. Also, there are a ton of steps gettig to the water, which was not a problem for most. Two people (in 70s) stayed inside the whole time.
Houston County Lake is located in the heart of the Texas Forest Country. A trip to downtown Crockett provides a multitude of eateries, historic buildings and a one of a kind old fashioned movie theater.
