Reef-surfing sea turtles, spectacular sunsets, all the colors of the ocean and the rustle of palms overhead ... Those are just a few of the daily sights and sounds you'll enjoy in this top floor, oceanfront condo located halfway between the resort communities of Kaanapali and Kapalua.
Recently remodeled, the condo offers travertine tiled floors, tropical furnishings, mahogany and granite kitchen with stainless appliances, walk-in shower and ample storage. Clever sliding plantation doors between the bedroom and living area can be closed for maximum privacy or left open so that you can watch the rising sun set the palms aglow outside.
Between November and April our guests get to enjoy the spectacular sight of the annual Humpback Whale migration. These awesome creatures come to Maui from Alaska every year to give birth and one of their favorite locations to do so is right out front of the condo in the wide channel between West Maui and the island of Lanai and Molokai. In the peak months (Jan - March), we can count on seeing dozens of whales an hour without leaving the condo!
Hale Ono Loa is a mid-century, low-rise condo complex that underwent a complete exterior renovation in 2010. Guests are able to enjoy a shared pool surrounded by palms, access to the ocean, sundecks at both pool level and alongside the ocean and beautiful tropical gardens filled with fragrant colorful blooms all year long. There's off-street parking, shared gas BBQs, shuffle board court and an interesting mix of full-time residents and vacationing visitors. Each condo is individually owned and independently rented, providing a low-key, peaceful alternative to the brand-name 'resort' experience.

We love to swim, snorkel and scuba dive so Hawaii has been a favorite vacation destination for years. When we came to stay at Hale Ono Loa in West Maui in January 2007, we just knew it was the place for us. It's conveniently close to Lahaina and golfing at Kapalua or Kaanapali and BEST of all, it's right on the ocean. We can fall asleep listening to waves and wake up to surfing sea turtles.
When the Pacific Northwest is winter-dreary there's no better place than the lushly landscaped gardens around the condo and the azure blue sea right out front! We hope you'll consider staying in this place we love so much. Aloha! Vanessa & Greg

There's just so much we enjoy about Hale Ono Loa. We love the reefs out front which fill with green sea turtles when the tide is high and always guarantee colorful fish when we're snorkeling. The ocean-side sundecks offer comfortable lounges for sunning or shady retreats for watching the whales. A thrice-weekly Farmers' Market is just a couple minute's walk down the street and it's only another short stroll to the head of the boardwalk which continues nearly 5 miles through the entire Kaanapali Resort area.
We tried to anticipate our guests' every need and desire when appointing our condo. From the 'Heavenly Bed' king size mattress on a romantic sleigh bed to a fully equipped kitchen; comfort, ease and privacy are what we hope our guests enjoy when staying with us.
Pack your lunch in one of the coolers and head out to the many wonderful nearby beaches. You'll find beach chairs, sun umbrella, mats and some toys stored on the lanai. Come home and shower off the day's activities in the travertine-tiled bath before slipping one of the Hawaiian music CDs in the entertainment center and watching the sun set from the comfortably-furnished lanai.
Does dinner in sound like a good idea tonight? Why not pick up a piece of ahi from the Fish Market and grill it up on the pool-side BBQ. Listen to the palms rustle overhead and plan tomorrow's adventures with the guide books we've provided.
We loved staying in your well-appointed condo! The views were spectacular -- waves, turtles, whales, ships, etc... We cooked most of our meals and your kitchen had EVERYTHING we needed. (note to readers: a Safeway card is a MUST for better grocery prices. We saved a great deal of money using it in 4 weeks). Thank you for making your condo available to us. We'll be back!
407 Hale Ono Loa was an incredible experience from start to finish. The space was so well thought out, from the fully stocked kitchen essentials to the beach gear to the amazing bed. We felt that there was nothing else that we needed. As other people mentioned, there is no AC--and this proved to be no problem at all. The tradewinds created a constant breeze so falling asleep to comfort and ocean waves was a nightly occurrence. The location was wonderful, close to what is needed and far enough that it was peaceful and out of tourist chaos. Overall, we would give more stars if we could. 10/10 stay.
Really enjoyed our stay here. This Condo had been updated through out and is very lovely & comfy. I found that Vanessa is a great host and very easy to talk to. We found everything in the Condo that we needed, from cooking utensils, spices, everything you need to take to the beach, plus cleaning supplies to clean up the sand we brought back from the beach and the bathroom was well stocked. The Condo was in a great location, close to our favorite beaches and restaurants and not far from Lahaina. A wonderful breeze at night and the bed and pillows are so comfy. The Condo area was very quite and clean, of course the ocean was right there and we watched the sunset every-night. *The BIRDS, I love birds, in the morning they sing to you, lots of Doves and other beautiful sounding birds. I did see a Turtle form our patio! Very relaxing here, I would come back and stay any time. Thanks!
Hale Ono Loa 407 was everything exactly as described. In fact, it was so peaceful to sit, relax, and take in the view that we were hard-pressed to get up and going with daily activities. We napped, read and watched the sea turtles more than I care to admit! The furnishings were so clean and comfortable, and the unit was stocked with everything we needed, from cooking utensils to beach equipment. The location is super too. Quiet but near everything.
The extra special touch was how personable Vanessa ,the owner ,was. She responded immediately with any questions I had, and assisted us in a way that made our travels stress-free. Thank you, Vanessa!
We were enticed by the photos showing views from the balcony, and the actual views were even better. If anything, the descriptions on line were understated. The condo was immaculate, well appointed, in a great location, all of which made us more than a little at home. We availed ourselves of the pool area to enjoy the sun between our beach and activity trips, but also to use the gas grills to fix fresh fish for dinner each night.
Positives: a continual, cool breeze flowed through the condo day and night; the location on the island was fantastic, easy and quick to get everywhere we wanted to go; the whole complex was quiet and uncrowded (we were often the only ones at the pool or grilling); we saw turtles in the waters from our balcony and from the sun decks daily; sunsets were priceless; it is unlikely that any owners could be more gracious and attentive as Vanessa and her husband were.
Negatives: we had to leave.
We can think of no higher recommendation than to say if we were going to purchase a condo for ourselves, we would want it to be this one. We definitely plan on returning there.
Here are a few of our suggestions for the area:
1. Just a mile or so away is the Farmer's Market. It has vegan and organic products, great produce, lotions and oils, alternative dairy, but no meats or fish. For regular grocery items, there is a Safeway about 4 miles away, the Napali Market about 2 miles away, and a few others in the area. Choose Safeway for fresh fish.
2. Right next to Farmer's Market is Bad Ass Coffee. Among the six or seven coffee shops we tried, they had the best coffee and best prices for drinks as well, maybe a dollar or more less for a latte or cappuccino. Cool t-shirts as well at least for our teenager.
3. Maui Dive Shop is about two miles north and is really big. Diving, snorkeling and golfing stuff featured. You can book dives or snorkeling trips through them.
4. Duke's is about three miles south of the condo, has really good food and live music in the open bar area. We did drop in twice and didn't have to wait long for a table or bar stool, but make reservations if you can.
5. Genki Sushi in Lahaina. Across the street from Safeway, an accidental find. It is not fancy but the quality is great for a drop in place and we ate there several times (so do a lot of locals, apparently). The prices are hard to beat: $5.30 for assorted sashimi that was fresh and delicious. Spicy tuna and ahi poke rice bowl good too.
This property is great! My wife and I would stay here again. Conveniently located near Kaanapali and Lahaina, yet off the beaten path so it is quiet. The view is great, especially at sunset. If you're there during whale season, you'll see tons of whales from the lanai. It's an affordable oceanfront rental. The owner maintains the property and cleans it well. The owner also checks in with you on your arrival day to make sure your arrival goes smoothly. If you stay long, the grocery is nearby so you don't have to eat out all the time. What my wife and I appreciated most is the condo unit is at the end of a hallway, so it is super quiet. It's not like a hotel where you here guests coming and going or the housekeeper. Just the waves of the ocean.

I don't think I will ever choose to stay in a hotel again with such a wonderful place like this available. We even saw the sea turtles eating the seaweed on the reef from the balcony. Just loved it!
