Palm Trees is an imposing hillside villa/guest house set in its own grounds on the gated Anchor Estate on Jamaica’s South Coast. It is about 200 feet above sea level and 400 yards from the beach. The views are amazing and there is normally a relaxing breeze. All the rooms have high ‘cathedral ceilings’ and fans. The pool is very private as it is within the villa. Most guests have loved Palm Trees and many guests say they will return.

About Bernard and Daisy Skan
In 1999 I, Bernard an Englishman met Daisy who was born in Jamaica. We were married in 2000 and came to Jamaica in 2004 when we fist saw Palm Trees. We decided to buy and complete the building. In 2009 we doubled the size of the villa to enable us to be on site to maintain the pool, fix any little problems that may occur and to generally maintain and keep the place clean. Daisy is an excellent cook and housekeeper and I am fairly competent at DIY, plumbing, electrical repairs, building and gardening.
Bernard and Daisy Skan purchased this Villa in 2004
Why Bernard and Daisy Skan chose New Hope
It was the villas location in a safe area that made us decide to buy.

The property is nice, but it could be so much better if only...
We stayed there for one week in the beginning of January. We were a party of 5.
The villa is exactly how represented on the pictures: no surprise there.
BUT, a few factors made the stay a bit less enjoyable: there was no DVD player (as mentioned), the Internet connection was really limited to a certain area in the villa, which the bedrooms were not a part of and the most disappointing: there was no outdoor grill. We were relying on that feature to cook a few meals, but there wasn't one. The oven was also not working and the quality of the pans to disposition was pretty bad. We only had 2 ''mini-fridges'', which was not enough space for a big family for a week. The pool was not correctly maintained and we could see the dirt piling up at the bottom. Also, the water pressure was really weak, and it was pretty hard to get anything but cold water.
Still, we enjoyed the view and the calm of the villa. Daisy cooked us a marvelous feast for a little supplement (50$US).
Another point: the villa is on a hill, so the entrance is REALLY inclined. It damaged our car a bit, so be careful about that.
If you're looking for a calm and nice property to spend a week in Jamaica, this place is great. But be aware that there are no big grocery stores at proximity and that it can be hard to cook for yourself there.
Unfortunately the DVD player was being repaired after being damaged, the Internet connection is OK, guests who are staying at the moment have tried it in all the rooms but I have also installed a range booster. The gas fired BBQ is in the Gazebo. The oven is working. No one in the past has complained about the quality of the pans. The pool did get a bit dirty following to nearby grass fires and a strong breeze. On arrival I showed where the water pump switch is that pumps the supply of hot and cold water under pressure.
Without hesitation I would recommend this property. Bernie and Daisy are wonderful hosts
This residence has a spectacular view! The layout is just as the pictures indicate but it seemed even better when we arrived - very spacious with privacy for all. It is located not far from Treasure Beach and Bluefield Beach (local Jamaican Beach) and YS Falls. Grocery store in Black River provided all essentials. We stayed with 3 grown daughters and they loved the location too! The residence is VERY clean and the kitchen is will stocked if you want to cook a few meals at home. Daisy is an excellent cook so do take her up on her offer to shop and cook you at least one meal during your stay. Bernie was very helpful and gracious providing a lift into town and lots of advice. Air conditioners work well in each of the 3 bedrooms but ceiling fans were all we used after a few nights as the evening were nice and cool. I would without hesitation recommend this property. If we return to that area of Jamaica we would seek to stay at this villa in Whitehouse again! Thank you Bernard and Daisy! You are now part of our family memories. Be well! Thank you so much for your review of Palm Trees we really appreciate your comments and we would love to see you again in the future.

Palm Trees was the best choice we could have made
We were recommended to stay at Palm Trees by some friends of ours who had spent a month there last year.
We were immediately impressed by Daisy and Bernard the villa owners who made us feel most welcome. We arrived at 6pm and did not feel like going out to buy food to cook. So Daisy cooked us an amazing meal of fish, rice and peas and salad. The master bedroom was huge and because all the rooms in the villa had cathedral ceilings we found we did not need to use the air con as the ceiling fans we all we needed. The massive patio area, only accessible from within the villa
Contained the full sized swimming pool, the waters of which were crystal clear. The view from the villa over the Caribbean sea was so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes. The only downside to the villa was that we had to leave and return to London but we will return.
Thank you Brian it was a delight meeting you and your wife. Hope you can make it again next year.

Nestled in the hills overlooking the ocean, Palm Trees villa is a beautiful respite. It has lovely gardens and is very open and spacious. If you are tired of crowded resorts and beaches overrun with people, this is the place for you. The villa itself is clean, space and very well maintained.
We stayed at the villa with some good friends and had a wonderful stay. In the morning we were greeted by birdsong and fresh sea air. After a day exploring the islands treasures - YS Falls, Negril, treasure beach - it was the icing on the cake to come back and watch the sunset over the Caribbean Sea from the villa balcony or take a dip in the pool. The villa is close to a couple of local beaches which, other than locals who are friendly and do their own thing enjoying the sea, its basically like you having the beach to yourself.
Bernard and Daisy were the most gracious and welcoming hosts. When we arrived the kitchen was stocked with basics like water, butter, etc. and Daisy cooked us a lovely dinner and offered to cook during our stay. They also had great recommendations and even rang ahead to ask the owners of a local bar/ restaurant - blue water - to take care of us and they did!
We will definitely be going back for our next holiday and bring more family and friends!
Bernard and Daisy, thanks so much for a great time! Warmly, Nick, Delicia, Meghan, Taji and Melvin.
Thank you Delicia we are realy glad you enjoyed your stay and would love to see you all again.
Regards Bernard and Daisy
Can't wait to return! Thanks for a lovely holiday
We came to Palm Trees with our family for a month in Feb/March and could not have loved it more!! My husband and I have been to the island several times before but finally decided to bring our four girls to the island we fell in love with. Selecting this villa based on referral was the best decision we could have ever made as both myself my husband and our four girls quickly fell in love with the villa and it's owners Daisy and Bernard. They were very accommodating to our every need and loved and treated our girls like they were their own. Our main reason for choosing this villa was the location, space, pool (which our girls made VERY good use of) and of course view, which is far more amazing than the pictures. We plan to return every year as our girls are home schooled so this actually becomes an adventurous part of our school curriculum! The added bonus of Daisy cooking and doing laundry and Bernard's constant attention to the pool truly makes it feel as though you are in a resort! We miss u guys and can't wait to return! Thanks again for a lovely holiday!! Love, Dave, Leah, Julie, Janelle, Jocelyn, and Jillian Chamberlain
Local Amenities and Activities
Car Hire is recommended as there are many interesting places to visit with in a reasonable distance
Anchor Estate has it's own private beaches. Close by is the Sandals European Spa resort. Just over a mile from the villa is the centre of Whitehouse which has a super market, chemist, a busy market especially on Saturdays and a fish market. Travelling a bit further afield is Black River, the county town of St Elizabeth where the Black River Safari takes you up the river. You will see crocodiles and lots of bird life and Mangrove swamps. Also in St Elizabeth is YS Falls, Bamboo Avenue and Appleton Estate. Floyds Pelican Bar is worth a visit as is Jack Spratt's and Jake's Place in Treasure Beach.
