What a beautiful estate. We really enjoyed the pool and spa access and the gorgeous grounds. Would definitely stay again.
We really enjoyed the 4 days we spent at Rancho Santa Fe. The apartment was perfect for us (two couples and one baby). Thank you for the baby cot and all the toys for our son. He also enjoyed playing tennis with us!! We would come back again for a couple days of relaxation to enjoy the pool and the spa.
We really enjoyed our time at this cottage. The grounds, pool and view were wonderful. There was plenty of room for our family of four (two small children). The cottage was stocked with games, pool toys, books and even Google Chromecast for the TV! I highly recommend this rental as a base for a San Diego visit. Ellen, our host, was very organized so that we were able to enjoy ourselves from the moment we arrived.
Breathtaking views. The property is gorgeous, a well maintained pool and tennis court were used as much as possible during our stay. The grounds are beautiful with so many varieties of trees and foliage to admire. The bedding and beds are quite luxurious and comfortable. The homeowners housekeeper is especially kind, welcoming and attentive. The kitchen is a tight fit, but having a gas burner on the BBQ is helpful. Have to be creative with refrigerator space and food storage.
We felt a bit exposed on the property as the front gate is left open, and on our last full day a woman who had been viewing the property for her own stay just showed up and walked into the back while we were in the pool to inquire about the property. Not sure this was arranged with homeowner, I suspect not, but it did prove our concern that anyone could just walk onto the property.
Overall a beautiful vacation experience.
Ellen thought of everything! She was super helpful and responsive, even though she wasn't there during our stay. She provided us with detailed information before our arrival and outfitted the Casita with everything we could need. Speaking of the Casita, it was wonderful--and just as advertised. Truly a beautiful property. We swam, played tennis, played basketball, picked oranges . . . We even played board games when we needed a break from the sun.
We were travelling with two young children (5 and 8). They were very comfortable there and definitely enjoyed their stay.
The property is conveniently located between the downtown San Diego attractions (to the south) and Legoland (to the north).
Ines, the housekeeper, was helpful as well and was happy to provide as much (or as little) cleaning and other help that we wanted.
We would definitely return if our travels bring us back to the San Diego area.
We just spent a wonderful five days at Casita del Arboles -- a perfect location for two couples (or a family with two kids -- the 2nd bedroom has two twins that can be combined to make one king.) The location is extraordinary. It's up in the hills of Rancho Santa Fe which affords extreme privacy but it is only a short 15-20 minute drive to the quaint beach towns of Solano Beach or Del Mar. Our gracious hostess, Ellen lives only part-time in the main house so she wasn't there during our stay but her house manager, Ines was wonderful -- she even offered to do some laundry for us! The pool and hot tub were the perfect refreshing/relaxing combination after a couple of days of golf in the area. The pictures are great but the Casita and pool area are even lovelier in person. Don't miss a stroll through the beautiful and fragrant rose bushes on your way down to the tennis court! I've stayed in many VRBO rentals but this one rates very high (five stars) on my list and we will definitely plan to return.
The community of Rancho Santa Fe was first established in 1928, and is commonly referred to as the "Covenant" by local residents. But the name "Covenant" actually came about because of how the community was created. At that time, a group of property owners entered into a mutual agreement to preserve and maintain the character of the community and its rare landscape features, and to uphold the quality of future architecture. This mutual agreement came to be known simply as the Covenant and now refers not only to the principal governing document, but also to the community itself.
Today, the Covenant of Rancho Santa Fe encompasses approximately ten square miles or approximately 6,730 acres, and is home to around 5,000 residents. Near the center of the Covenant area is the Village of Rancho Santa Fe, with shops, restaurants, other commercial businesses and the historic Rancho Santa Fe Inn. The Rancho Santa Fe School District's new campus is located adjacent to the Village. The Roger Rowe School was specifically built for grades K-6th and middle school aged children. The Roger Rowe campus is state of the art, and includes a performing arts center, dedicated classroom labs, and a computer for every child.
In the heart of the Covenant and to the north of the Village is the renowned Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club. The Rancho Santa Fe Golf Course is a Max Behr designed 6,940 yard par 72 course and is open only to Covenant members and their guests. In the late 1930s, the Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club served as the original site for “clambakes” hosted by Bing Crosby, one the early residents of the Covenant.
Surrounding the golf course and the Village, the majority of the Covenant is comprised of rolling topography with low density, large lot residential development where the average lot size is over two acres. A private equestrian and hiking trail network runs throughout the community. The private, secure, rural character of the community, combined with its proximity to the ocean and nearby access to world class medical facilities and cultural venues are what set the Covenant apart as being a highly desirable place to live.
