Kaunakakai House Rental Photos and Description

House, 4 Bedrooms, 4 Baths, Sleeps 8+, Newly Renovated

Experience Moloka'i in this 3,000 square foot architecturally-designed vacation rental home located on the West End of the island of Moloka'i, Hawaii. This stunning home set among dense, tropical foliage, is unique on the island of Moloka'i with a beautiful tropical setting, newly remodeled interiors, refreshed furnishings and stunning decks with views of Diamond Head on Oahu and the Molokai Channel.

A new owner took over the property in March 2012 and major improvements to the property have now been completed, including: all new appliances and outfitting of kitchen; new LP gas BBQ; new deck furniture; new king size beds and bedding; and all new soft goods. Beautiful remodeling of all four in-suite bathrooms completed in 2012, including glass and stone shower surrounds. In late 2016, all of the decks for outdoor dining and around the beuatiful pool and spa were replaced giving the property yet another stunning upgrade.

These beautiful, Bali-inspired accommodations overlook Papohaku Beach--Hawaii's longest & widest beach known for its soft, warm sand & deserted atmosphere. The home sits approximately 600 yards above the beach. Each suite has a view of the ocean. Facing west, guests will see the twinkling lights of Oahu at night & enjoy spectacular sunsets reflecting off the Pacific Ocean.

Known as 'Hale Papapa Moloka'i, these beautiful Molokai accommodations have four separate suites, each with their own bath, private, screened lanai & telephone.

Of the 4 suites, 3 feature king-size beds and the 4th is furnished with 2 twin-beds that can be combined into a king. The house can accommodate a maximum of 8 people.

Rental rates vary depending on the number of bedrooms occupied and the season (see Rates for details). No matter the number of suites occupied, vacation renters will have exclusive use of the premises.

Anchored in the center of the four suites is the 'long house' with living room, dining room and kitchen. 6 double french doors allow the beautiful tropical breezes flow through the house while two large ceiling fans keep the living area cool. The four suites are semi-detached from the long house, but connected by covered walkways. This unique floor plan lends itself well to larger groups & families who enjoy vacationing together, but still like to maintain a bit of privacy.

Views of the ocean from the pool, outdoor spa and deck areas. Soothing gardens & birdsong abound. A caretaker is located full-time on the property housed in separate accommodations away from the main house.

If you are a lover of the Hawaiian Islands, a visit to Moloka'i should not be missed. It is peaceful, quiet, non-touristy and family-oriented. Frequent rainbows, the tallest sea cliffs in the world, spectacular tropical & coastline beauty, and deserted beaches - it's all here waiting to be experienced in this very special house that has an incredibly relaxing, rustic, tropical vibe. Surround area offers secluded beaches, hiking, mountain biking and great places for runs or walks.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We spent January 6-February 3, 2015 at Hale Papapa. This was our third consecutive trip to Molokai for my husband, our four year old twins and myself. It was hands down the best yet. The pictures of this home don't even begin to describe how amazing it is. Everything from a fully stocked kitchen, to beautiful linens, comfy beds, to the most spectacular greenery I've seen at a home.

For bike riders, it was a great central location to tour around the west end. For beachgoers, you have a beautiful toward Papohaku Beach and Diamond Head across the Molokai Channel. We walked to Papohaku Beach in less than four minutes. If you're traveling in a group of 2 couples or more, this is the place to stay. You have tour own private wing with full ensuite bathroom and screened in lanai.

We have toured almost every rental home in Molokai and this is definitely in the top 3. We can't wait to go back!

Beautiful Hale Papapa

  • 5 of 5

Molokai has been on my husband's bucket list, so for his upcoming birthday the family decided to fulfill his wish. The location of the property was quiet, secluded and had a gorgeous view. The house fit our 6 adults, 2 children and a toddler perfectly. Property is well maintained and the kitchen had everything you could possibly need and a very nice washer/dryer. The caretakers live on the property and were extremely helpful, including stocking the frig etc for items we requested till we got to the store the following day of our arrival. The only negatives - power went out just as we arrived (apparently happens frequently) so had to scrounge up dull flashlights and use cellphones flashlights to get settled. Made a suggestion to owner for battery operated lanterns and better flashlights and he has already ordered them. Thanks Doug! The insect life is quite active and we had to battle ants (what they see in a microfiber turbie twist is beyond me) and moths the size of our hands. Would have loved AC as it got quite humid, but the pool made up for it. The owner, property manager and caretakers were quick to respond to any questions or needs. All in all, Hale Papapa is a beautiful piece of property and would love to return again. Aloha

Owner's Response: Aloha Judy, Thanks for your nice comments about your stay at Hale Papapa Moloka'i. You will be pleased to know that the new flashlights and battery-powered lanterns are in place! As for the insects-- they are part of the deal when living in such a beautiful, tropical environment. This month we will be continuing our improvements to the property with all new decks at the outdoor dining and sundeck areas. Come back again soon. Mahalo!

Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time to Molokai and first time at Hale Papapa. It was a wonderful house for our family which includes 3 teenage daughters. We loved the quiet location and the private pool. Brian and Taylor, the caretakers, maintain the house very well. We would definitely return.

Heavenly Star-Gazing!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I live on the mainland in a big city and this place was like heaven on earth of us. Especially since we are both lovers of star-gazing. We were blessed that during the time we were there, the Lionid meteor showers were upon us and every night we would head out to the deck and lay out on the lawn chairs and gaze up up at the night sky and the falling stars were countless we made so many wishes! :) It's so wonderful to be in a place so wild and be able to relax and enjoy nature the way we did a this place. There was also a special heart constellation in the winter sky above for our romantic adventure. We were also given a good deal of privacy which we both appreciated. Loved this Star-Gazer's retreat! XOXO

Excellence

  • 5 of 5

This was our third visit to Hale Papapa and it gets better every time. Having once owned property on Molokai and frequenting the island for thirty years I can't think of a better location and/or more suitable accommodations to experience Molokai. The house shows exquisite taste, it's well maintained, sophisticatedly stocked and completely private. It's truly an island paradise...the photos speak for themselves.

Caretakers Brian and Taylor obviously work hard to keep the property maintained and looking pristine. They were friendly and readily available to provide anything we needed (tiki lamp fuel, etc) including local knowledge and advice. They were never intrusive and our privacy was well preserved throughout the week. They definitely exude the aloha spirit!

We're already planning our next visit to Molokai and won't consider another rental as long as Hale Papapa is available.

Wounderful Home

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful home for a four family getaway. The large pool was clean and kept clean by the staff. No issue with

bugs, except at night outside. The layout with the four separate bedrooms made for quiet nights. Kitchen was

well stocked with dishes and pots and pans. Great washer and dryer. Also there is a crib and playpen if needed.

I could not ask for a better place to relax and watch the sunset.

Island Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful home, ocean view, beautiful gardens, clean, with a fully stocked kitchen. We were eight adults with a baby and we stayed very comfortably in the four bedroom pods. The Mosquitos in the garden are relentless so bring bug spray. The place could use a regular housekeeper for when guests are staying over, even at an extra charge it would have been nice not to have to think about it. There's no WiFi which seems easy enough to provide. All in all though, a fantantastic location for a group of people who want to spend time together away from the crowds, just soaking up the sun in a tropical paradise.

Owner's Response: Aloha Odette, thanks so much for your review. We are pleased to know you had a wonderful time at Hale Papapa and really appreciate your feedback. Molokai is coming off an extended period of drought and this winter's rains have really brought out mosquitos, so mosquito spray is a good idea. We are happy to try and arrange additional housekeeping for our guests upon request. As for WIFI, Molokai's remoteness is a blessing and a curse in this regard as dependable internet is still not available. We urge our guests to bring their own "hotspots" and this seems to work out pretty well. Again, mahalo for your comments and we look forward to seeing you again at Hale Papapa.
