About the property

3 Bdrm, 2 Bath, 2-story, Ocean View Property; 2000 Sq Ft

The Orange House is located 20 miles East of George Town on Little Exuma. The large upstairs veranda overlooks the most beautiful beach in the Bahamas, the Tropic of Cancer Beach. The one and a half mile stretch of beach is great for walking, swimming or just lounging as it is never crowded. Kayaks are available to venture out to turtle rock and other areas. The house sleeps up to six people and is fully equipped with everything you need except food and bathing suits. This is a very safe and quiet environment that is off the beaten path. Absolute paradise! You are going to come to Tropic of Cancer Beach for a day or two and eat at Santanas a couple of times anyway. They are MUST DO on Exuma. Might as well stay here. You will be glad you did! View details below for local contacts.

Why Teri and Charlie Lynn chose Exuma

Great Escape

  • 5 of 5

We (my husband, my sister, her husband & I) thoroughly enjoyed Exuma. And we were very happy with our “home base”, the Orange House. Very comfortable accommodations - beds, showers, kitchen, kayaks, beach chairs, coolers, deck furniture, ... Owners communicate quickly, contact person on island very friendly & knowledgeable. We hope we’re invited to return!

Property information a bit deceiving due to recent construction

  • 2 of 5

We were very unlucky with our stay, mostly due to the effects of extreme weather and being in that house. We ended up being rained in most days, it got so bad we could not leave Little Exuma due to massive flooding and had to pay an arm and a leg to leave the island on Theo Gray's school bus.

I think it's important to mention a few things:

1) There is construction occurring in between the Orange House and the Tropic of Cancer beach. We were awoken most mornings to the sounds of saws or concrete trucks and workers. There certainly will not be as nice of a view once construction is finished. And it wasn't very relaxing while we were there.

2) Water service is directly tied to power. If you don't have power, you don't have water. We had a power outage, on average, 6 hours a day. Stock up on water, granola bars, etc. Not exactly the price point I expected for glamping.

3) The local caretaker is on island time, so even when we reported part of the ceiling (very small piece, size of a nerf football) to have collapsed on us at the dinner table, he didn't show up when we were there. I would suspect there is a lot of water damage in the house. I had to email the owners to let them know. Not really a good sign about communication, there's probably a lot the owners are unaware of.

4) I don't know what kind of septic they have, but when it's hot and you go upstairs to the second floor apartment (you need to go outside to get there, which is not fun in rain/lightning) you are acutely aware that there is raw sewage on the property.

A lot of this is due to the effects of extreme weather, but overall I feel that their post needs to be updated to reflect construction and that everyone who books this should be aware that once you get on Little Exuma - you are on your own. Bring a lot of granola bars and other non-perishable food in your check in. Don't fly in on a Sunday (everything is closed). When you do fly in, make sure it's in the morning or afternoon and go directly to one of the markets and ensure you have enough food that won't spoil for the duration of your stay and more fresh water than you think you need.

Owner's Response: Sorry your vacation was a rainy one. Flooding and power outage was island wide, not just the Orange House. The island has never experienced such an overnight deluge, even with hurricanes tracking close by. Water was chest high in the roads with cell phone service down also. The property manager couldn't leave his own house much less make it to you. My wife and I had a similar weather experience while on vacation. We certainly didn't blame the house or the island, nor did we write an unfairly bad review.

Owner's Response: January, historically, is one of Exumas driest months. I guess you just never know about the weather.

We love the Orange House. So much!! We didn't want to leave 😢?😢? It has everything (except your own food) that my husband, 7 year old son and I needed to enjoy this beautiful island life. We were looking to get away from it all and enjoy the true beautiful island life for a little bit, and we sure did. The Orange House is literally 30 seconds away from Tropic of Cancer beach, which is the most beautiful beach I have ever seen! And I have been to a lot of places with nice beaches. I love the upstairs bedroom set up. Although we didn't sleep there, we ate drank and hung out by the balcony while enjoying the majestic view of Tropic of Cancer beach. We went to Santana's and Tropic Breeze (which is only less than 5 minutes drive) and the food was super delicious. We enjoyed the free Netflix too at the house! Perfect to entertain my son at night before he goes to bed. Overall, I love this place. We are definitely coming back! But next time I need to bring more potent mosquitoes and bugs repellent spray, because these little bastards definitely ate me lol... but it's okay I guess it's my little souvenirs from Little Exuma❤️❤️

Owner's Response: Really happy you guys enjoyed Exuma and the Orange House. We tell people about The Tropic of Cancer Beach and show them pictures, but you have to see it to appreciate how beautiful it is.

We loved the view of the Tropic of Cancer beach and Pelican Cays.

  • 5 of 5

The quite solitude of the second floor porch lends itself to one of the best views of the Tropic of Cancer beach and the Pelican Cays. We loved sitting upstairs listening to the ocean at night and looking at millions of stars in the sky. Don't forget your bug spray when the wind is quiet as the mosquitoes and gnats can be relentless. The house is 30 minutes away from George Town by car. We grilled and cooked in for most of our dinners as we had a hard time finding places that were open for food after 5pm. The grocery store in town had a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables. The kitchen was well stocked and we loved the colorful dishes! The house is a short walk (less than 2 minutes) to the Tropic of Cancer beach. When returning, the front deck has a fresh water hose to rinse off before walking up the stairs into the house.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review Luke. The upper balcony during the day and at night is quite special. Generally the restaurants are open later. Life on a small island!

The main attraction is the Tropic of Cancer Beach which is one of the most beautiful beaches you will ever find. Close proximity to restaurants/bars. Ferry to Stocking Island for food, drinks and a day's adventure very much worth your time. The house is a 1 minute walk to the Tropic of Cancer Beach. The nearest village is Williams Town home of Santana's Grill Pit and The Tropic Breeze where you can have food and drinks. Both are within 10 minutes. Bone fish within five miles. Bone fishing is big business in Exuma and there are plenty of local fishermen who can take you out.

Further up the coast is the main town of GeorgeTown, where you can rent boats, schedule private charters, visit the local straw market for unique souvenirs and gifts. There is the fish fry just out side of Georgetown offering a wide variety of local cuisine and music. Check out our Facebook page, 'Orange House, Little Exuma' for addition information.
