Maunaloa Shores 403 is a lovely oceanfront condo with room for 6 guests! Swim in the ocean just steps from the entrance to the condominium!

Maunaloa Shores 403 is a nicely updated two bedroom condominium at the popular Maunaloa Shores building in Keaukaha, Hilo's beach park area. This updated condo has cool ceramic tile floors throughout, and ceiling fans to keep things cool and comfortable. The furnishings are high quality, and local art decorates the walls. The kitchen and bathroom are both nicely upgraded.  Just a stone's throw from the water, you'll hear the waves and see the ocean sparkling through the monkey pod trees from almost every room.  There's great swimming and snorkeling next door; use the handy gate near the rear of the property and you'll be in the water in less than 5 minutes! Maunaloa Shores has a pool and plenty of lounge chairs, and each unit has an assigned parking space in the lot just outside.

Maunaloa Shores is a perfect home base for exploring East Hawaii and beyond. Enjoy multiple beach parks in the immediate area - Carlsmith Beach Park is right next door, with Richardson's, Onekahakaha, Leleiwi and Four Mile beach parks all close by. Fine dining at the Seaside Restaurant is right across the street. Historic downtown Hilo, with more restaurants, shops, museums, theaters and entertainment, is a 10 minute drive - as are most other sights in Hilo. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is less than an hour away. Major improvements to Saddle Road have drastically reduced the drive time between the east and west sides of the island, making cross-island day trips very reasonable.  

The living room has a plush sofa and matching chair. A flat screen TV with basic cable, DVD player, and a collection of board games provide entertainment options. High-speed internet including Wi-Fi is provided. A large sliding glass door to the lanai maximizes the view and the breeze. The lanai has a second dining set so you can enjoy your coffee, meals and cocktails outside, just like a local.

The Makai (ocean side) bedroom is furnished with a quality queen bed, two night stands with reading lamps, and a large dresser. There's a large closet with plenty of hangers, where you'll also find extra blankets and an iron and ironing board. The huge windows take up the entire wall so you can soak up the view, and there are blinds to help dampen the early morning light for those who like to sleep in. There's a ceiling fan in here as well.

The second bedroom is set up as a den. There are bookshelves loaded with novels, travel guides and assorted reading material. There's a desk that will come in handy for those who have to work while they stay. The den bedroom has a large futon with a thick mattress that folds out into a bed, allowing the condo to sleep up to 4 guests.

 The full bathroom separates the two bedrooms. The bathroom is nicely upgraded, with tile walls and floor. The shower-over-tub has a handheld shower head and a grab-bar for those who may need them. Plenty of white fluffy bath towels, beach towels and extra linens are all provided.

Create home cooked meals in the open kitchen that comes equipped with all the necessities.  There's an electric range, microwave, coffee maker, refrigerator freezer, coffee grinder, rice cooker, toaster, slow cooker, and blender. Drawers and cabinets hold everything you'll need to prepare and serve meals, including utensils, mixing bowls, measuring cups, pots and pans, and plenty of plates, bowls, cups and glasses. There's even a tea kettle and a water filter pitcher. All the conveniences of home! Once your meal is ready, there's a dining area with seating for 4, or head out to the lanai where you can enjoy your grinds at the outdoor dinette. There's a small collection of beach gear out here for your enjoyment as well. 

You'll feel right at home at Maunaloa Shores 403. Like the stencil on the wall says: "May those who enter as guests leave as friends!"

Classic bait and switch

Be aware! The photos of this rental are not real, when you open the door, you find the condo full of old hotel cast off furniture. The management is very very slow to respond to your concerns, and if and when they do they blame the owner for not wanting to spend any money. We were able to get the moldy rug replaced with an actual new rug, however, when the manager brought our "new"lanai table, it was far from new and he complained how expensive it was. The dog eaten couch was replaced eventually, with a used couch and chair. We were then informed that the owner was tired of spending money, so we would not get a working television. We fortunately have stayed in this complex many times, and we know that there are beatiful units here, choose any other one, do not waste your vacation nor money in #...

As usual, I love staying at the Maunaloa Shores. I was my very own sanctuary. I loved the candle that was in there. Not much of a variety of cooking products like spices and oil but all in all, I love the fact the freezer had an ice maker and a cooler for me to use. It was PERFECT. Not to mention the other guests, I got to meet a couple from Minnesota, a group from Sweden, some New Yokers. I didn't like how the gates were opened and the elevator was operated by a key. Sometimes it took awhile for the key to go into the elevator key hole. Other then that, I'm looking forward to visiting again.

We found a great place to stay...You can too! Great location. Loved Carl Smith Park snorkeling, and just down the street a couple miles was Richardson's Park. Would definitely stay there again.

Try Auntie Pon"s restaurant for a great meal. Also try Ken's restaurant for their Pan Cakes. Seaside Restaurant, just across the street was wonderful.

Over all, loved this place.

This is a very spacious condo with a great view of the bay and ocean. We greatly enjoyed our stay. Only two cons and they are related. The condo does not have a/c (a lot of properties in the islands don't) but the cross breeze kept it comfortable. Of course having the windows open all the time also let all of the noise from campers/partiers on the beach in. All in all, a great place to stay and we plan to go back.
