Hanalei House Rental Photos and Description

3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, Sleeps 6

Traveling north past Hanalei, you enter the dense jungle and intense blue waters of Kauai's far north shore. There are no words that can describe nature's beauty in this region. Many beaches, including tunnels and ke'e, are in the area. Trail heads for some of the most memorable hikes on earth are nearby.

The Wainiha beach house brings you old style Hawaii in a jungle setting with a stream flowing in your back yard. Built in 1963 of Polynesian design, the house was the dream of Peggy Slater, known as the Amelia Earhart of sailing. Waterfalls, rainbows, crashing surf, fragrant flowers and exotic colorful birds will surround you. Home has high speed wireless internet, phone, cable tv, and full kitchen.

Bedroom 1 has a King bed. Bedroom 2 has a King bed and Bedroom 3 has a Queen bed. There is A/C in the master bedroom.

Guestbook comments from the manager

The house was beautiful and the scenery around us was amazing! The house is an older home, but has so much character. The three bedrooms are "railroad" style where one is right after another, so you have to go through each room to get to the living area if you are at the very last room. (So keep in mind that there isn't much privacy) But, there are doors for each room that lead to the front lawn, so you can avoid going through each room if you don't mind going outside, then through the front door. Everyone was happy at the house and would go back again when visiting Kauai.

The beach is directly across the street and is a beautiful view to wake up to every morning. The only thing is that it isn't very easy to get to, but there are other beaches less than 5 minutes away that you can drive to.

Reviewer Comments:

When I travel, I like to feel like a part of a place, which is something a resort just can't do. This place, however, delivered. It was like staying at a friend's slightly funky beach house. The master bedroom was particularly great because it felt like staying deep in the jungle with the bull frogs, birds calling, and tropical showers late at night just outside our window. Didn't even need the A/C since the home gets great cross breezes. LOVED the location on the north convenient to all the best beaches. Super comfortable beds. We had a few issues come up which the management handled in record time. The only downsides: the bedrooms are all in a row as other reviewers have mentioned (with squeaky, stubborn doors) making privacy a bit of an issue as you need to walk through them to get to the main house. There is an outside door from one of them, but perhaps not that practical. The beach is directly across the street and it was wonderful to hear waves crashing at night, but you should know that there's no easy beach access. You can get there with a 20 minute scenic walk however. (It's not a swimming beach anyway so you may as well take a short drive to any of the incredible nearby snorkeling sites instead.) Very limited counter space in the kitchen for cooking, but we made do. Overall though, we'd stay here again in a heartbeat. A great value!

Owner's Response: Hi you so much for your spot on review of the beach house. Glad you had a comfortable and enjoyable stay. As a side note the home will soon undergo some renovations so next time you come back I think the kitchen will be beyond your expectations, hope to see you again. Warmest Aloha from

We liked our stay here in this home and I would stay there again. The house is located across the street from beach. Even though this is the main road I didn't find it too busy. The home has a lot of large windows and the view of the beach was nice. We didn't see a way to walk past that river to the beach. We would drive to near-by beaches. It is an older home with nicely updated furnishings. My husband was really grateful for the AC in the back bedroom. We have a 4 month old and I was happy to find a waterproof crib pad in one of the closets (just the pad, no crib). Having a washer/dryer was a must when I booked the rental. There was laundry detergent when we stayed. Not sure if it was provided by the rental. But they did provide a dish soap and a new dish sponge. Everyone we met was really friendly. Aloha Kauai

Reviewer Comments:

Fantastic location on the north of the island. We absolutely loved it. Close to all the great hikes we wanted to go to. View on our "private beach". Hanalei, with all sorts of restaurants, is only a few miles away. Even though the road in front of the house is quite busy, it is surprisingly peaceful. Falling asleep on the sounds of the waves is priceless. A lot of space for a family of six. Nice to have the AC in the back rooms from the few humid days. The only negative was, in general, the slow responds from the management. The phone line was not working and they never repaired it.

Definition of Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

We instantly felt at home in this house! It has everything you need to live, just like home. We stayed here for 11 nights. It was spacious for the 6 of us. Loved that we could open the windows all throughout the house and have the breeze flow through! The day we checked in the neighbors dog came and greeted us. That was very welcomed as we have dogs at home. He was a caramel colored small breed dog named Keoke (not sure if I spelled that right but, it's pronounced like key-o-key). The next small breed dog that came and hung out is white with brown spots, his name is Lucky. They were both very friendly, sweet dogs. The backyard was nice and private. But, I warn you!! The mosquitos will eat you alive, lol! We tried everything but straight deet. I think they are immune to OFF and Cutter. We even bought some essential oil naturopathic stuff at Big Save in Hanalei. It worked better than Deep Woods OFF and Cutter. But, after about an hour or so it wears off and the feast continues lol. The house is right off Kuhio Hwy and traffic can get pretty busy but, not distracting to us. When backing out of the drive way, just be sure to go slow. Our favorite beach to go sunbath was at Haena Park. The water there is really rough but, for just laying in the sun it's perfect! For food we went to the Big Save market in Hanalei. They surprisingly had a lot of stuff! For being so far north and not many options, their prices weren't to bad. The house has everything you need to make a full meal. The coffee maker is awesome and the toaster was really high tech! We would stay here again and we miss our home of 11 days! MAHALO! <3

Reviewer Comments:

Wainiha Beach Hale was a perfect spot for our girls trip on Kauai. We loved the north end of the island! It was quiet, beautiful, close to the beach, and made the trip feel so tropical. The house was older but so adorable. It had plenty of space, a fully functioning kitchen, nice beds, and a backyard / front yard with a grill. This part of the island is remote (no cell service at the house) so if that is what you are looking for then you will love it!
