Situated at the back of a large corner lot just off Hemphill Park in one of Austin's most charming historic neighborhoods (Aldridge Place), this garage apartment sits opposite a newly remodeled historic house (built in 1917). Positioned on the north side of a large lot, this garage apartment has a modern, industrial, urban vibe - built in 2006 by architect, Paul Lamb. All living space is on the second floor with large windows that look out to pecan and lugustrum trees – offering privacy and feeling of being in a tree-house. There is a generously sized, bedroom area with a reading nook, a comfortable queen-sized bed, and plenty of drawers to keep your belongings. Behind a modern, concrete, '3/4 wall' there is a living room space with an American Leather, super comfy (seriously) sleeper sofa with a queen size gel mattress. The apartment is equipped with a full kitchen (includes dishrack, pots, pans, silverware, bowls, refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, teapot, toaster, oven, and gas stove). Enjoy a book in the comfy window seat, work or play using free wireless internet access or enjoy a movie or show on the HD TV through AT&T Uverse . An alarm system is also installed should you wish to use it. This is the perfect place to visit friends and relatives, explore the university, enjoy a festival, tour Austin, or just get away and relax for a weekend. We are located just one block off Guadalupe -near campus, but far enough away to find some peace and quiet. Walk or bike to the university, or to one of the nearby restaurants. The Capitol building and downtown Austin are less than 2 miles away. We are less than a mile from a shopping center that includes Central Market and we are very close to the hospital district (Seton, St. David's, Brackenridge, Austin Heart Hospital, and several doctor's offices). Dell Children's hospital is fairly close as well. Within walking distance, you can enjoy a variety of North University or Hyde Park restaurants, bars, and shops. In addition to Central Market (less than a mile away), there is a charming neighborhood grocery store right around the corner - Wheatsville Coop (with all of your basics available plus lots of organic and healthy selections).
My husband and I have lived in Austin for 15 years and just moved to this neighborhood. And we love it! We have two kids (upper elementary) and a small dog named Baxter.

It's a very cool space: modern, attractive, comfortable and conveniently located in central Austin.
washer / dryer and ping-pong table in the garage; bikes available. There's also a large chalkboard wall in the apartment (which can be fun). We are walking distance from several bars, restaurants, and two grocery stores. The lit is very large so we have a yard for soccer and we are catty corner to a park that is great for strolling, playing soccer, walking the dog, or riding bikes. We are close to the university, but far enough away to enjoy some peace and quiet and we have plenty of room for parking.
This is a great apartment. The photos on-line do not convey how spacious it is, nor do they give a true impression of the height of the ceilings. Everything works and the place is very comfortable. It's next to a green, leafy park and within walking distance of the university, so very well located for my own purposes. I highly recommend the Central Market for food shopping, about 15-20 minutes away on foot. The garage downstairs is in daily use by the Levy family, but you have access to the washing machine + dryer there at all times. Kendall was a very generous and thoughtful host. When it became clear I wasn't going to arrive until midnight, she put out some coffee and eggs so that I would have some breakfast the next morning. And when I left, she kindly let me stay a little overtime to get a late check-out. This rental is excellent value and I highly recommend it.
During the annual SXSW event we where lucky to rent this apartment. The apartment is very spacious, we were with two, but it could easily fit four people. The beds are comfortable, the bathroom clean and the kitchen offers anything you will need. The neighborhood is very nice (clean, quiet, green), so it gave us the rest we need after a hard day of 'work'. The apartment is located just behind the university and only a 15 minute bike ride from the city center (but taking the bus is also a good option).
Kendall and her family make you feel more than welcome and are happy to give you any advise on what to do and where to drink/eat. We would definitely recommend this place to everybody!
Ps: Beware if Kendall and the kids invite you for a game of soccer, their skill level is way above the American standard and they will beat any opposing team ;)

The most wonderful apartment in Austin! Perfect location. Has everything you need and more. We didn't want to leave. The owners were so helpful and communicated well. Only thing I could have asked for was a bigger bed as we are used to sleeping on a king and it was hard to adjust to queen size.
Hemphill Hideaway is a perfect getaway in Austin. We walked to several restaurants and in the summer! But they were easy strolls. The loft is amazing. The architecture and space constantly amazed us. The bed and pull-out bed were very comfortable. Kendall is a joy to work with and we couldn't have asked for a nicer visit. Especially since I grew up in Austin - when I come back to visit I would only pick Hemphill Hideaway.
The Levy family are wonderful folks. The apartment is clean and modern with plenty of room. Loft style, with stairs leading up to apt. The decor is beautiful and artistic. Everything is there to feel just like home. Next to a beautiful park, the quiet neighborhood is safe & close to campus, lots of trees and gardens, surrounded by adorable classy homes. Grocery and a few restaurants are within walking as well as a bus line to go down town.
One comfy queen bed, with lots of storage. Beautiful picture windows, and plenty of room to entertain. Perfect for a single traveler, or even two friends or two couples. Bathroom is nice and roomy. And kitchen is quaint with stainless steel new appliances. Room to park your car or bikes. Nice and private.
