6, 12, 24 MONTH OPPORTUNITY TO LIVE INOUR HOME: Our property isn't a vacation rental--it's our full-time home! As such, it offers a lot more than what you usually find elsewhere. Nothing on the property was purchased with the thought that 'this will be good enough for our renters.' Everything in our home was hand chosen to make our lives richer. Here's our story: The summer of 2010 was the first time we offered our newly-renovated house as a rental, and we sailed to Maine. All went well and we're hoping to rent it out for 12 - 24 months starting the fall of 2014. We live and work from our home and love the location! We're walking distance to the train (to NYC), fabulous shopping, restaurants and free live concerts in the summer. It's great here, but sailing is our passion and we're planning to be live-aboards/work-aboards, venturing as far south as the Bahamas. We hope our wunderlust will provide a unique opportunity for another family to live in our home for an extended period of time.
During the summers of 2010-2014 and winter of 2014/2015 we offered our recently-renovated house as a rental, and we sailed along the Northeast, going as far as Maine and as far South as Georgetown, Bahamas. Living on the water with a private dock makes kayaking and canoeing an easy treat. Paddle to dinner at one of many excellent riverside restaurants, or catch one of the many free concerts at Levitt Pavilion. Towering pines, cool river breezes, a heated pool, and fine fishing from the edge of the property makes our home feel like summer camp. Experience sunset as the evening cools sitting by the pool or the river's edge with a fire burning in one of the two outdoor fire places. Relax!
Our family rented their lovely, renovated Westport home for the summer of 2010. It was a dream summer with a clean house, state of the art appliances, friendly neighbors, and wonderful accommodations. The owners were wonderful, and gracious landlords in every sense.
The pool and grounds were kept up weekly, and Kathy was always available if I had any questions regarding the house, or town itself.
Not only was the house fabulous, the town of Westport offered many amenities we loved. The beach, golfing privileges, easy access to trains and restaurants were the complete summer package. Indeed, we are entertaining the idea to rent again this year after the birth of our 2nd child.
We spent the best summer in recent memory at this Westport gem. We reside in Manhattan and greatly appreciated the home's proximity to the Metro North train station. We could travel back and forth easily and so could our grown children who were able to come and go according to their schedules. This is an underrated yet highly valuable convenience.
We place a high priority on a waterfront property and the Saugatuck River is this home's defining feature. The tidal river is endlessly interesting due to its dramatic rise and fall. Wildlife of all kinds thrive in and around the water, so there is always something to observe and enjoy.
Massive trees provide a beautiful canopy and flowering perennials contribute constant color to the lush and private yard. We spent most of our time on the patio or in the pool.
Kathy and Julian have created a tasteful and comfortable home that incorporates the charm of a former barn and many modern elements such as large windows and beautiful finishes. All of the appliances and fixtures are modern and in perfect working order and the kitchen is well equipped.
The nearby farmer's market kept us supplied with gorgeous fresh produce and flowers and I ended up cooking far more than I usually like to for a vacation, but it was a pleasure.
Kathy and Julian were highly responsive to any questions and concerns that we had and were always a pleasure to deal with.
We would have no hesitation to stay here again would highly endorse it to our friends.
We rented this beautiful home for three months (June, July, August 2013). The house is on a lovely tree lined street creating a mood of relaxation as you drive in. On arrival, the home itself is charming, well furnished, and pristine. The kitchen is quite modern and great for cooking as well as being extremely well appointed. The house has good fung shui. This is a happy place.
It is easy to just move-in and unpack. The owners are very friendly and readily available when needed. They were away but remained very accessible. They know the area well and are happy to give you lots of info.
Everything you could need or want is there — including a canoe and a kayak which you can take down to the floating dock and paddle to dinner. (There are three restaurants nearby where you can dock.)
The house is very well located, (literally) three minutes from everything in Westport, but you would never know it. The river is a few steps down from the pool in the backyard. It is utterly charming.
The well furnished outdoor patio was our most used space. They have a fabulous new grill and lots of seating. The "River Room" was the most used interior room, it's all windows with views of the river, pool and trees. Everyone gravitated to the kitchen and "River Room" which are open to each other.
It is an ideal set-up. We entertained friends from the city a good deal and had a wonderful time getting to know the rhythms of the river. There was total privacy.
The maintenance work (pool, lawn mowing and gardening) happened without us having to do anything. The workers were extremely polite, very accommodating, and always reliable.
The Westport Playhouse is nearby, as are weekly outdoor concerts, markets and fairs. There is a sailing school less than one mile away. There are plenty of places to shop for fresh food and lots of other shopping is easily available.
We received our deposit back (with full documentation of utilities used) very quickly. The owners are very, very nice people and great to rent from.
All in all, this is a great situation. We were very pleased. I would recommend this property to a friend or a relative anytime of the year. A perfect TEN stars.
Just want to express our absolute delight for having the opportunity to spend some time at your lovely home in Westport. What a piece of "Zen" paradise you have created on the Saugatuck River. Waking up to the sound of birds, rustling leaves on those magnificent trees, the gentle churning of the river. Sitting by the water and the outdoor fireplace at sunset is a real treat. The kayaks were an absolute blast. The bedrooms upstairs feel like we were living in a luxurious "tree house". The balconies with river views. The master bathroom with that incredible two person cast iron soaking tub feels like a "spa". And the "light" throughout the house, ever changing and always magical. We loved cooking up a storm in your "pro" kitchen. The Wolf stove is the best we have ever used.
We found Westport to be a wonderful, sophisticated town. And we were so close to everything. Great shopping, restaurants, major roads and the train. Zipping to NYC is a breeze. We are looking forward to spending more time in the future at your comfortable and elegant home. Thanks for sharing your lovely home.
This was a fantastic country home for our Manhattan family. Even though it is less than an hour away, Westport seemed a world away. We spent our time in the shade of expansive trees, enjoying refreshing river breezes and dips in the pool which looks onto the river. The landscaped property was well maintained and the gardens flowered continuously. The gardens were a haven for our young son. River birds and boats gave us beautiful views.
The house and grounds lend themselves to entertaining. A large kitchen equipped for a chef, a comfortably elegant dining room and a large outdoor patio & lawns make both casual and formal get-togethers easy.
The location was perfect: close to the train and the center of Westport, on a private dead-end street with lovely neighbors, secluded with mature hedges and tall trees.
The owners were very accommodating and always quick to answer questions or provide assistance.
It was a truly lovely summer experience.
We were so glad to have found this house; we needed a house to accomodate our family of 5 plus grandparents for the summer and it was perfect. The place was clean and well-kept with a well appointed kitchen and gorgeous wood floors. The place worked extremelly well for our family and we would definitely return if we returned to the USA. The landlords were also very helpful and easy to reach with any questions, etc Thumbs up!
We traveled back to Westport to attend a wedding with our grown sons and their spouses. The owners, Kathy and Julien could not have been more helpful. The house was beautiful and we felt right at home. This property is for the discriminating renter and the home is more beautiful than the pictures. The train station is within a mile and we made a few day/evening trips to Manhattan. VERY convienent. The town of Westport is charming and there are many great restaurants in the area. The home is situated on the river with a canoe and kayak for added fun. We enjoyed both and even did some fishing. We could not have picked a better place to stay in Westport and will definitely contact Kathy and Julien when we return to the area.
