Overview

About the property

Fish, Hike or just soak in the hot tub at this cute little cabin on Cherry Lake

MorningStar on the Lake is a real log cabin with two cozy bedrooms and one bath situated amongst the stunning scenery of the North Georgia Mountains. The open floor plan has a beautifully decorated living room and kitchen as well as a dining area which is enclosed in glass for a lovely view of the Georgia Mountains. The rock fireplace and cathedral ceilings add to the warmth of the great room which opens to the screened in porch overlooking the pristine waters of Cherry Lake. Picturesque landscaping and steps leads to the lake front dock where you can enjoy activities such as swimming, canoeing and fishing, right there in your own back yard. It also features an extra large hot tub that could fit 6 plus comfy seating on the screened porch over-looking the lake. If you’re looking to venture off into nature, right next to the cabin you have full access to the Benton MacKaye hiking trail which is a main feeder to the Appalachian Trail.

If your looking for some fun just a few minutes away, this Georgia cabin is perfectly located just minutes from downtown Blue Ridge or Ellijay. How about visiting one of the local Apple Farms, such as Merciers or Hillcrest. They both have some of the best apple pies (cherry, blueberry, chocolate and more) anywhere in the South and if you want to entertain the kids, check out the “you pick”. Whatever is in season you get the opportunity to pick yourself, a fun and entertaining day with the kids and some good eating too. Don’t miss out on one of the only Drive-In theaters left in the county, the “Swan Drive-In” takes you back in time when you packed up the car with goodies, pulled up in front of the big screen and relaxed in your own vehicle and watched a great movie. So much to do and see, I know you’ll enjoy not only staying at the Morningstar on the Lake but all the fun and exciting activities that the North Georgia Mountains have to offer.

About Mary Spencer

Being a huge outdoor enthusiast, I had been visiting the North Georgia Mountains for years. The hiking is incredible, with marked and unmarked trails everywhere. The lakes are beautiful and so serene, plus the fishing is great. The towns of Ellijay and Blue Ridge are adorable and both have tons of great shops and restaurants. Makes it easy to enjoy all that nature has to offer and then sit down at a nice "Mom and Pop" restaurant for some local trout and veggies. I bought my first little log cabin in 2000, which I thoroughly enjoyed with family and friends, so much so that I decide to buy my second one a few years later. Both of my girls grew up playing in the dirt, riding 4 -wheeler, picking blackberries and fishing in the creek. I now bring my 4 year old grand-daughters to the "cabin" so she can also have an opportunity to enjoy this amazing place and make some great memories.

I currently own 4 cabins ( all are listed on Homeaway/VRBO) and opened a company in 2010 called Morning Breeze Cabin Rentals, which manages a total of 60 log cabins throughout the Blue Ridge and Ellijay area. I would love for each and every one of you to come on up and experience all that the mountains of Blue Ridge has to offer. A lot has changed since the year 2000, now we have wineries, ziplines, fishing and hiking guides plus fine dining to add to the list of things to do and enjoy while visiting the beautiful mountains of North Georgia.

Why Mary Spencer chose North Georgia Mountains

This is a very special property to me as it was bought in remembrance of my dad. He also enjoyed the outdoors and was the one who first introduced me to fishing. When he passed in 2010, he left me half of a small insurance policy, which I decided to use as a down payment on an investment property that I could also enjoy. He loved the stock market and spent hours in front of his computer buying and selling stocks, so I chose the name "Morningstar" since that was a popular brokerage firm. He would have loved the cabin with it's little dock for fishing, hiking right out the door, huge hot tub and the lovely screened porch for enjoying a nice glass of wine at the end of the day. I hope anyone who decides to rent my special little cabin enjoys it as much as I do :)

What makes this cabin unique

This cabin is truly idea for a couple who just wants to get away from it all yet still have access to our quaint little mountain towns of Ellijay and Blue Ridge. The extra large hot tub lets you melt all your troubles away or maybe sit in one of the rockers and enjoy the view of the lake from the screened porch. Being pet friendly you can bring along your extended family and take nice leisurely walks on the Benton MacKaye trail which is adjacent to the cabin. With paved roads all the way and easy access into the cabin anyone can enjoy staying at the Morningstar on the Lake.

Perfect little getaway.

The cabin was clean and cozy. There are tons of hiking trails nearby. The towns of Blue Ridge and Elijay are a short drive away if you want shopping or restaurants. The property is right on the lake and the hot tub is huge.

Great stay, wonderful place!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Morningstar on the Lake! The location in Cherry Log is our favorite of any location, and the cabin was perfect - cozy, warm, and very romantic! The hot tub was a highlight - a few of the jets weren't working, but overall it was a great way to both start and end the day. We'll be back - thanks so much!

Beautiful cabin on serene lake. Well kept property, very clean. Great walking in general area, and fantastic hiking trails in short distance that we enjoyed with our labrador retrievers. Shopping amenities close by in Ellijay. Relaxing get away.

The property was beautiful. I especially loved the cabin decor. The cabin was spotless. The beds were comfortable. We enjoyed spending lots of time on the screened in porch and the hot tub. We spent a day in the town of Blue Ridge which is a great place to do some shopping and have a nice meal. I would definitely recommend this property to friends and family.
