This house was incredible! We were there in June 2012, with our three young boys. When you're driving in, you will think that you are lost in the jungle and start to question your sanity. Once you walk in, though, all of that trepidation will evaporate. The house is incredibly well-laid out, with an indoor/outdoor architecture that allows you to shut out the bugs at night, and open it up to the air during the day. The windows and doors are done in a true Caribbean style, and the bedrooms are both beautiful and comfortable.
The bathroom in the master is really unique, with a circular tiled shower.
We found the owner to be pleasant and helpful. The maid, Jacque, was incredible. We were greeted with a fruit punch when we arrived, and she worked incredibly hard to make sure we were well taken care of- even to the extent of carrying our laundry on a bus to her house to wash it after there was trouble with the washing machine. This was an hour's trip for her, and once we found out she had done it, we called the owner and asked him to fix the washing machine for her! Her dedication to us was unbelievable. We had her cook a meal for our boys' birthday on the last night, and wished we had done it sooner, the food was delicious!
The saltwater pool was wonderfully pleasant and comfortable. The deck was a great place to chill and hang out on. The landscaping was beautifully composed and well taken care of. The specimen plants were beyond compare, and the grounds were full of mangos, coconuts, papaya, etc.
At the end of the day, there was nothing better to settle down in our airconditioned bedroom and sleep comfortably until morning.
There's a nice walk to a small, pleasant beach. A bit rocky, but with some nice shady, sandy spots to sit down and relax. It's also a great place for some light snorkeling.
We can't recommend this place enough. It made our St. Lucia experience tranquil, beautiful, and memorable. We don't think you can go wrong with the house. Highly, highly recommended. I'd give it more than 5 stars if I could.
Previous review is correct-- the pictures do not do the house justice! We had just an incredible stay. The locals also call the house "Wild Serenity," and if you stay there, you will know why.
In almost every aspect the house was simply perfect. The housekeeper, Jackie, was completely incredible and went way, way out of her way to take care of us and make us feel welcome. Xavier, the owner, was very helpful to us when we were trying to find the place, and he is somewhat of a celebrity on the Island. Everywhere we went, if we mentioned we were staying at his house, we got the immediate, "Oh, I know Xavier" response.
You'll think that you have take a wrong turn when trying to get there-- the road is a bit in need of maintenance by western standards, but once you arrive, it's incredibly worth it. The location is actually quite, good and convenient.
The pool was great and we had trouble getting the kids out of it to go to the beach. All three bedrooms in the main house are air conditioned, as well as the entertainment/family room.
We fould the architecture to be charming, simple, and yet perfect. The rest of the house can basically be completely opened up to the outside. It would be a great place for entertaining, although we really didn't do that while we were there.
The beach is small, within walking distance, rocky, and the path is just a bit difficult. It's a good beach to snorkel off of, but you'll probably want to go to other beaches. It could be a good place to lay out on, and perhaps read a good book. Not such a great place to play in the water-- rocks and sea urchins.
There ae several other extremely nice beaches within easy driving distance.
We recommend Big Runner taxi service, and Alex's water taxi out of Marigot Bay. Jackie set us up with Big Runner (David) and Oasis Marigot made the Alex connection for us.
Have Jackie cook you a local meal, well worth it, and give Xavier's restaurant, The Coal Pot, a try-- it's wonderful. We didn't make it to his other restaurant in the Rodney Bay Mall, but I'm sure it's great as well.
The landscaping is incredible and I'm sure you'll spend a great deal of time admiring the view.
We would recommend Barefoot Beach highly, highly, highly. I'd give it the highest rating. We found it to be excellent for families; we have three boys, 15, 6, and 3.
Jackie will make you feel welcome and cater to your every need,, and the house will also welcome you with open arms.
This was a great place to stay and the pictures on the internet do not do it justice! The property was clean and well maintained and Xavier and his crew provided excellent customer service! We had dinner at the Coal Pot Restaurant which was a wonderful dining experience and a beautiful location right beside the water. We also recommend dining at the Pink Plantation House, another great culinary experience and the view is also spectacular. We took an all-day taxi tour to Soufriere to visit the Botanical Gardens, the hot springs of the volcano, the Pitons, etc and had lunch at Dasheene which was also wonderful. We didn't rent a car, didn't feel the need to as Bernard (aka "Tree") helped us navigate the bus system and understand how much to pay for a taxi. On the last Friday night, we took the bus to Gros Islet for an outdoor party/BBQ/Seafood feast - most enjoyable. This was our first time renting a vacation property and first time in St. Lucia - both ending up being one of our best vacations ever! We would recommend this to our friends and relatives for sure.
