About Jon Harris

My wife and I settled on the Central Coast of California after a 10 year of military service. We have two adult children and four grandchildren, who we enjoy spending most of our time with. In 2001 we traveled to Oakhurst, California, for the first time and immediately fell in love with the area. The first thing that appealed to us was the friendly people and the relaxing atmosphere this area provided. We are outdoor enthusiast who enjoy camping, hiking, boating, sightseeing, and areas that are unique with culture. We enjoy traveling in the United States and abroad.

Jon Harris purchased this house in 2009

Why Jon Harris chose Yosemite Area

The first thing that appealed to us was the friendly people and the relaxing atmosphere this area provided. As we explored the area a little more, we were impressed with how much the local area had to offer. With Bass Lake and Yosemite National Park nearby, we quickly realized this one area had so much to offer for anyone. Whether it is snow skiing, water skiing, boating, hiking, sightseeing, or just the relaxation this beautiful area has to offer, your experience will be sensational.

This property is designed to help protect our most valuable resources, and the beauty that California and the Yosemite area have to offer..

Reducing, Reusing & Recycling

From recycling to installing high efficiency systems, we’re reducing our impact on the environment by reusing wherever possible. We practice extensive waste reduction and recycling of glass, paper, and cardboard, metal, plastic and ceramic. These efforts have reduced our waste significantly, the majority of which is now recycled.

Water Reduction Practices

To conserve water, one of California’s greatest natural resources, we have taken several steps to reduce its usage here at The Yosemite Haus; we have installed low-flow toilets and plumbing equipment. We also personally conserve water and encourage guests to do the same by doing such things as turning faucets off when not in immediate use and asking guests to consider using their linens more than once.

Smoke Free Environment

For the health and comfort of our guests and the health of the environment, Yosemite haus is a smoke-free environment.

Compact Florescent Bulbs and fixtures

Our change from incandescent to compact florescent bulbs in over 75% of our fixtures has reduced our energy usage significantly.

What makes this house unique

Centrally located between the Bass Lake Community, the town of Oakhurst, California, and the Yosemite National Park. The house is located 55 minutes from the Fresno Yosemite International Airport, which offers 6 major car rental companies to serve you. It is located 20 minutes from a beautiful casino resort, which offers live shows, gaming and buffet dining. There is local wine tasting, beer tasting from the Southgate Beer Brewery in the town of Oakhurst, California, golf courses and the Yosemite Park Zip Line attraction. This property is centrally located close to all amenities, but just off the road enough for you and your family to enjoy beauty, privacy, relaxing peace and quiet.

Exactly as depicted - Great home

  • 5 of 5

We arrived after dark so the explicit directions were much appreciated and thankfully the addresses are clearly signed at the driveways. The house was exactly as depicted in the pictures, clean, spacious and comfortable. On the kitchen island was a welcoming bottle of wine, some local jelly and crackers with cream cheese in the fridge - very classy. We turned on the gas fireplace which really puts out heat and provides a relaxing ambiance. Television and WiFi worked great so we didn't miss the Giants and were able to keep up on emails. Everything we needed to prepare our own meals was provided in the well-equipped kitchen, including a bag of kitchen supplies (foil, storage bags, dishwasher pods, sponge) as well as laundry detergent and a dryer sheet so we could wash our hiking clothes after our first day of hiking. The drive to the Valley floor wasn't any longer than we expected after doing our homework on Google before arriving, and the iconic waterfalls were really flowing- the reason we visited in April. The Wawona (now called Big Trees) area is very close, relatively speaking, and we hiked to Chilnualna Falls our second day. Whew what a hike, but it was so beautiful with the rushing cascades and panoramic views from the top. After our full days in the park it was great to return "home" to get cleaned up and relax. Ping pong in the game room was really fun, alas I am not the champion. The master bathroom bathtub was great for soaking our tired muscles. We found the beds comfortable so woke up refreshed. We would definitely recommend this home and would stay here again. When doing that last walkthrough to ensure we didn't forget anything, we neglected to look behind the front door which concealed a fleece jacket handing on the handy hooks. Upon contacting the property manager, she was extremely helpful and is sending the jacket back to us via mail. The owners were also very responsive via email and quickly answered all my pre-trip inquiries.

Lovely Place!

  • 5 of 5

The house was so cool! My kids loved the game room and I loved the nice Clean Bbq where I cooked nightly. The inside was gorgeous and in great condition. The kitchen has all the amenities for the chef! We saw deers and wild turkeys from the porch! Thanks for allowing us to stay at your beautiful house.

Great house, responsive owner, just as described!

  • 5 of 5

This house was a great home base for us to visit YNP on our drive up from Southern California. The house was as described and had every convenience one could want. We definitely felt in the great outdoors and not on top of neighbors at all. The owner was so responsive and quick to get back. The furnishings were tasteful and nice, the house clean! My boys enjoyed the game room in lower level (which you had to go outside to get to but not a big deal) . We had not originally planned on a Bass Lake visit but couldn't resist. It was beautiful! Thank you so much to owners. We would stay again for sure. (One suggestion would have liked is a small tool kit and a cooler- again not a big deal just a suggestion). Thank You !

Owner's Response: Thank You for taking the time to write a nice review! We really enjoyed having you and your family and we hope that you will come stay again! We really appreciate how respectful you were of our home by leaving it just as you found it. I think the cooler suggestion is a fantastic idea! Yosemite and bass lake have so many areas to picnic and barbeque. We always suggest to our guests to take advantage of these areas and take some food, drinks, snacks, etc. when they travel and enjoy the surrounding areas. We have ordered a cooler and a picnic basket that will be available for guests to use. We do have a small tool kit available for guests, but your suggestion did gave us an idea and we added a small sewing kit to it also. I will add it's location information to the guest book so guests can easily find it... I do agree that it is a good idea to have one.

Great cabin and great times!

  • 5 of 5

A few buddies and I wanted to get out of our cities and experience Bass Lake and Yosemite. After high school we all went our different ways. That was about 10 years ago. We decided that we should all meet up again and explore the great outdoors.

We were so fortunate to find this great cabin close to Bass Lake. It was the perfect place for my friends and I to reconnect. Not only was it clean and well stocked with amenities, they also had a game room downstairs which was a fun place to hang out and play games like air hockey, ping pong and fooseball. They even had corn hole!

Bass Lake is a close drive, and even though the cabin is a bit far from Yosemite Park, the cabin and price is well worth the drive.

We grilled steaks, burgers and hot dogs on the patio and drank beers under an awesome spectacle of stars.

We hope to stay here again!

Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Amazing property, location, service and value

  • 5 of 5

This is an amazing property, immaculately cared for and provided with many guest friendly details. Great location, quiet and private yet convenient to both Oakhurst and Yosemite. Directions to property were very helpful since we came in after dark. Local contact, Colleen, very friendly and helpful. Cheaper than some motels in the area and with five times the amenities.

Lots of good grocery stores and other supplies available 10 minutes away in Oakhurst. Loved Crab Cakes Restaurant and South Gate Brewing Company. Spent one day going to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks; long drive but worth the trip. Three days in Yosemite.

Would definitely love to stay in this place again and just sit on the deck and relax.
