There is also a pull-out couch in a downstairs sitting room that can be screened off for privacy. A fully-equipped kitchen includes an electric range/oven, dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave, toaster and black concrete countertops. Gas-fired hot water radiators (downstairs) and radiant floors upstairs allow year-round occupancy. Wifi available throughout the house. Linens supplied. Outdoor stone patio. The Appalachian Trail is 3 miles away, with lakes for canoeing and fishing nearby (kayak rentals also).
The Becket Country Store has a deli and serves basic meals and is located 7 miles south on Route 8; larger grocery stores 12 miles away.
The owner lives in a separate house 300 feet away, visually screened by forest.
Will and Michele Beemer run the Heartwood School for the Homebuilding Crafts (founded 1978) and built this guest house themselves. They live in a separate house on the property. Both are talented craftspersons, Will in wood and Michele in fiber.
Will & Michele Beemer purchased this house in 1985
This property is only slightly off the 'beaten track' of the tourist meccas in the Berkshires, most of which are within a half-hour drive. The Guest House is secluded and quiet, yet only 250 feet off a paved road.
This house features custom woodwork in the Craftsman style, including cabinetry, furniture and timber-framing. The unusual 'cruck' framed sitting room features a gas fireplace for cozy reading.
We had the best time in this gorgeous and comfortable home — that they built themselves!! It was extremely clean and well-maintained, and the location was perfect. It was quiet and beautiful, and also well-situated for visiting farms. This was exactly what we were looking for: a break from the city in a cozy house in the woods.
We (two couples) stayed at the Wintergreen Guest House for two nights. Upon arrival we were all thrilled with the space. Everything was clean and as described. Plenty of room for four adults, with room to spare. Very nice patio and yard area, loved the breakfast nook and cruck sitting room. Our bed was very comfortable and the linens were in good condition. We were visiting to attend a show at Tanglewood and it was less than a half hour drive. We would love to return for a longer visit and do some more exploring. We briefly met Michele on our last morning but communication was very good from start to finish and we would not hesitate to stay with them again and recommend their guest house to others. Thanks again for sharing your home with us.
Architecturally interesting and extremely comfortable both inside and outside the cabin. It was such a treat to stay here! It was quiet and peaceful, the stars were so bright we could even see the Milky Way! We enjoyed the small towns of the Berkshires and Jacob's Pillow. There was plenty of room and space for 4 adults. We felt the pressures of the outside world melt away. Our hosts, Will and Michele were accessible and had taken great care to anticipate what we would need and compile it in a manual for our use. Even fresh ground coffee was provided for breakfast! There were plenty of towels and linens and the beds were extremely comfortable. We look forward to returning to this peaceful retreat in the woods.
We enjoyed a week in this quiet side of the Berkshires. Lee and Lenox are about a half hours drive, but the traffic was negligible over the tree lined (hilly!) roads. The kitchen was equipped sufficiently to eat meals at home, and the deck afforded a view of the woods beyond where coyotes roam, and bears are reputed to wander. The details of the home's construction were exceptional. The layout would be suitable for two couples for a long weekend. The second floor has a beautiful bathroom with a sunken tub, but no shower. It looks like a spa!
We recently went to a family reunion in Lenox and stayed at this fabulous home. We had a great time staying there! The house is amazing! It is beautifully designed and decorated and had plenty of room for the 5 of us. It is a very cozy place to hang out with comfortable chairs and couches. The house was extremely clean and the beds, including the fold out couch, were comfortable. We spent a lot of time on the lovely outside stone patio looking out at the wooded view. Will and Michelle were very nice and checked in to see if we needed anything. Their house is on the property but the guest house is very private with a good distance and trees between the houses. It was easy to get around and less than 30 minutes to Tanglewood and Stockbridge. This is the nicest house we have ever rented! We will definitely stay here whenever we come to the Berkshires!
We had a perfectly warm and cozy stay during the coldest weekend of this winter yet.
The house was aesthetically beautiful, very warm, quiet and functional.
The kitchen was well stocked, the beds were comfy, the bathtub luxurious!
The house was very clean and Will checked on us to make sure we were warm enough.
It was the winter weekend retreat we did not even know we needed.
We might have been more adventurous if the temperatures were not consistently below 0 F, but
either way it was a great place for a cold, winter, weekend hibernation!
I am sure it is lovely in the warmer weather as well.
